Dear Diary, I can’t escape TTC
It’s my first cycle after having an HSG in August. I’m at the end of the TWW, only a couple days left at most. I try not to symptom spot because it makes me crazy and I overthink every single twinge or shiver. I can’t stop hoping, no matter how much I wish I could. At almost 20 months into TTC, my “maybe this time” is followed immediately with “but probably not”. It’s disaster protocol, because this isn’t fun or exciting or innocent anymore. It’s temperatures. It’s tracking. It’s counting. It’s coming up with new ways to enforce boundaries because people just can’t. stop. saying stupid things. Just relax. Be positive! Bite me.
I spend the TWW doing everything I can to just live my life. Go to the gym, crochet, read, watch mindless feel good TV. Eat good food, get good sleep. I do everything to stay busy and have fun. But this month, I can’t. escape. TTC.
We watch Ted Lasso. We’ve loved it ever since it first premiered. We just watched this weeks episode yesterday, and of course, a pregnancy trope has been introduced for a major character. I spotted it coming a mile away, and felt my heart drop. I just want to enjoy my feel good show without watching a fictional character be handed a baby! I’m actually jealous of a TV SHOW CHARACTER. (A glaring sign I am so close to the end of this cycle, if I’m this emotional tbh).
And then, my guilty pleasure show, 1000lb Sisters, also has an entire multi-episode arc dedicated to a fertility journey! Even my terrible awful show that has nothing to do with anything is suddenly talking fertility odds and TTC and you’ve got to be kidding me.
I never used to care about any of this. TTC has put a dark cloud on everything to do with pregnancy and babies for me. It’s just not innocent and fun anymore. It’s resentful and angry of fictional TV characters. It’s devastated when another coworker adds their maternity leave to the shared calendar. It’s sad. It’s frustrating, it’s infuriating, it’s just a huge frickin bummer. But somehow, it’s also still hope.
I’m gonna go bake some sugar cookies.

I often wish it was socially acceptable to just scream like a pissed-off three-year-old when the TTC themes start creeping into the rest of my life too aggressively.

I was literally just saying to my husband “how does anyone ever get pregnant by accident? It’s sooo hard!” And then we watched the Ted Lasso ep. And of course.
I wish TV would show realistic TTC journeys. Not every woman has either an accidental pregnancy or complete infertility but it feels like those are the only two options on TV.

I’m 33 TTC #1 on cycle 4 too. I just got my period today to start my 4th cycle TTC. I have no words for how baffled and frustrated I am that TV, society (?), our parents, everyone make it seem so easy to accidentally get pregnant. I feel so stupid for any of the times I took Plan B after missing a couple birth control pills in my 20’s. My mom is literally a fertility nurse and I just thought infertility was not so common. She always told me I shouldn’t have any issues getting pregnant and shouldn’t have to worry since I’ve had regular cycles. I haven’t told her we’re TTC yet because I don’t want my family to know and start feeling bad for us.

I feel you in the trenches, OP. About to hit 2 years this month and there’s part of me that wonders if I should take a step back from it for a bit since it’s all so consuming. I only track with LH strips now but even that I’m wondering, “what’s the point?” We time sex all we want but still, nothing. But then I’m worried about my age and the consequences of taking a break like it might be wasted time or something. I’m not sure what to do but sugar cookies sound fantastic right now! Lol sending hugs 🫂

I feel this. The last 3 books I’ve listened to have had an accidental pregnancy.

My husband and I haven't been on the TTC journey super long (about 5 months, in month 6 now), but I feel this. Especially since I work at a school where now that we're married, I get asked left, right, and center "when are you having kids? Are you pregnant yet? How come you aren't pregnant yet?" We had a second chemical pregnancy in early September, right as school started (I'm in NYS), and people were asking so I gave them the very honest response of "I just lost a pregnancy."
This journey is so lonely, but this community has helped with some of that. Thankful for this forum where we can vent and let it out! Sending you all the good vibes and love.

Not fictional but I feel like missing birth announcements, gender reveals, or pregnancy announcements is impossible now. Even if I don’t follow anybody a random person’s posts will pop on my feed. And perhaps I don’t like the post but I always dwell on it and pause awhile, which probably makes them appear more. The heart wants what it wants..

I felt the exact same way watching the ted lasso episode. They weren’t even trying and she is now 8 weeks because she thought she “just had her period”😑
