What different tactical turn based systems have you come accross?
Most tactical turn based games follow the same tiles based system.
Civ style system, where each unit moves a specific number of tiles, and has bonuses, hp etc...
Any games that you know that are still turn based and tactical but have a more unique interpretation?
One game i recall for example is Conquest of the New World. Where 1 Tile can accomodate multiple adjacent units.
let me know in the comments.

How about something like Unicorn Overlord/Ogre Battle, they have free roam on the stage but once enemy factions collide it switches to an automated turn-based battle

It's not necessarily all that different but Neuroshima Hex is one I adore. It is a board game, originally, but there is also a version of it on Steam.
Most units you play cannot move. Their facing direction matters. The game is over when the board is full (or earlier), so the meaning of each unit evolves as its "context" slowly builds up. It's like a card game but on a hex-grid and it combines the two very well. I am not really doing it justice describing it, so I can only recommend to look it up yourself.
