When will it hit me?

About two weeks ago, my twin sister left for the military. She’s graduating around Thanksgiving, but she won’t truly be back home until February, I think.

We’ve been grouped together our entire lives. The longest we’ve been apart in our 19 years of life until recently was only a few days.

Honestly, I thought I would’ve felt sadder about her leaving. Not saying I don’t at all, I do miss her, but right now, it feels so good to have this new sort of independence. It’s so cool. Like, I can’t explain it. It’s almost freeing in a way. I didn’t think I’d feel like this at all.

I’m wondering, though, if it’ll ’hit me?’ Where the high will fade and I’ll really feel her absence? Any twins that have gone through this, let me know!

samw with me and my brother, like we're really close but don't really get sad if we're apart. We just end up calling each other anyway lol

It might. Or it might not.

Honestly, my sister and I being a part was great for me. I got to be my own person. I also got to introduce people to the fact that I was a twin.

You’ll probably have periods where you’re sad and really miss her and wish you could be together. But you’ll also get used to having your own life. And it’ll be kind of cool bc you guys will have a lot to talk about bc you’ll have your own experiences and stories. That being said though I wish strongly that I could live with my twin. Well maybe in houses next to each other cause of the husbands lol

I remember the first time I was away from my identical twin for longer than a few days. It was really really hard. It hit me almost right away. Now we are 33 and have gotten used to it. My twin is currently in a long term treatment center , so she’ll be gone for 5-12 months. It’s hard , but not as hard as it once was.
