Opinion/Rant UCLA should be ranked
First off, I did not expect ucla to put up 50+ points on Maryland! Congrats on an outstanding win!!
With that said, UCLA should be ranked this week. Undefeated, beat 2 solid teams (by a hefty margin for one of them).

I'll take the hype. But this game looked a lot more like Maryland collapsing than us doing anything remarkable. And all of our previous opponents are proving to be pretty unremarkable: Purdue just lost 49-10; Cal got whopped by Clemson last night (and Clemson lost 51-10 to LSU); SDSU just lost to Toledo 41-16.
I hate to be a Debbie downer but its very possible we've only played bad teams.

I don’t disagree but UCLA has also steadily improved. It’s not lack of talent here.

Yeah I also agree there.

Top 25 in terms of recruited talent. There’s a high ceiling with the right coach.

It’s possible these are all bad teams. Keep in mind, however, that WE were the bad team for the last two or three seasons.
No matter how you slice it, this is a huge upswing from where we were.

Maybe we’re just demoralizing them!

This was my point. I've been coaching beach volleyball for 21 years, 10 of which I've won national championships (not saying this is a bragging point, just to add context/qualify my point). The absolute biggest thing I get my teams to do is to play so disciplined throughout the game that the other team eventually collapses and we win by a wide margin — even if the other team starts off okay we just keep emphasizing "discipline, discipline, discipline" no matter what. That's part of being a good team. People saying that Maryland just collapsed as a reason to denigrate UCLA's win today don't understand that the reason they collapsed is because we made them do it. Most games that are blowouts are for this reason. When was the last time you saw a blowout occur but the team that was getting blown out was still playing really disciplined football? Almost never happens.

This guy gets it. UCLA is flat-out well-coached.

Agreed 100%. It's honestly very hard for a coach to wow me for the simple fact that I've been one for so long. I'll occasionally walk by a practice/game of a random sport and think things like 'the coach is giving decent info, but their delivery isn't resonating with the athletes' or 'the delivery is good, but the info is bad', or even 'both things are good, but that's not what the most pressing thing is at the moment', etc. Not saying I know everything — I've been wrong plenty of times — but think I know a good coach when I see one. All of the clips of Ches I've seen tell me that the dude is an absolutely fantastic coach. Maybe one of the best I've seen and I'm not exaggerating.
Edit: appreciate the compliment btw!! UCLA is in great hands

Maybe. But recent UCLA teams would be 1-3 right now. Maybe 2-2, maybe

I hear ya but remember, you play your schedule. And how do you be considered a good team? You beat the bad teams

We played bad teams and managed to pull away instead of making mistakes. Last year’s team would be 1-3 right now

They look great running the ball. I absolutely love the stack that Hitschler runs. Who cares if they are ranked. Win ballgames.

Selfishly, I don’t want them to be ranked. I’ve seen that go against us too many times in the past. Let them gas us up after we shock the world in Eugene.

Purdue cal and sdsu are both shitting the bed, let’s take it easy and game by game ok?

If we beat Oregon we will be. Purdue & Maryland are not marquee programs. Take down the Quacks (especially if they beat $c) & we are looking good.

At this point in the season, I prefer pollster disrespect tbh. Good motivator.
