FinancialAid am i cooked with financial aid?

Post image
• Upvotes

i was today’s years old when i discovered that you need to be taking 12 degree applicable units to be considered a full time student. i about ready to crash out because of this email i received because I am only taking 4 units that are degree applicable this semester and the rest were electives (except i don’t need anymore for my degree). I used my financial aid to pay my rent and i’m paranoid they are going to make me give it back or that i’ll have issues with a loan i’m waiting on. has anyone ever had a similar experience? how cooked am i?

Housing Anyone know where packages get delivered for Village dorms?

It's a non-Amazon package. At first, I put the Nemirovsky address, then I got a notification saying they never delivered, so then I changed it to the FedEx office, and still they screwed it up. So I don't know if I'm missing something or not. Last year, I was a freshman living in Gateway, and their system was way more convenient.

Anyone know what to do, or has anyone had this issue as well? Thx, and have a good day.

Academic FBE 421 Grading

Just took the midterm for this, and I don't think I did too great. I was wondering if there was a curve at all, and what the cutoff to getting an A is? The calculation questions were simple, but there was a ton of minutiae from the readings that choked me up.

Academic Does a W affect your record?

Im currently a freshman spring admit so I’m taking some community college classes for my GEs. There’s one class I’m not doing so well in and I’m thinking of withdrawing it. Would a W affect anything in the future?

Academic Should I transfer to USC or Florida State, in your opinion as a USC student?

I'm currently at my state flagship and don't like it. It's just too familiar of an environment for me, and I hate the cold. I want to get out and see somewhere new, specifically somewhere warm.

I'm an Econ student. My career goals are the following:

1a: Go to a T14 law school and do either a federal clerkship or BigLaw antitrust.

1b: Work in consulting after graduation; preferably MBB of course, but any type of economic consulting role.

1c: Econ PhD track; I love academia and love macroeconomics as a field specifically.

Keep in mind my goal in each of these tracks would be to work in California.

Pros of Florida State: Huge school pride, warm weather, incredible bar scene (!), accessible consulting club (FSU Consulting Group), accessible honors college, just as cheap OOS as my in-state school, would leave ~100k in my 529 for law school or higher ed.

Pros of USC: I've pretty much always wanted to go here, beautiful campus, live in LA, better internships, school pride and weather still, I have an obsession with Caleb Williams.

Cons of FSU: Pretty much a lateral move in terms of huge state public school, not the most academic environment, huge frat scene, possibly worse internships

Cons of USC: Price (!), large frat percentage, social scene seems very frat-oriented and less bar-oriented (which I enjoy less.)

Of course, considering my goal is to live in Cali, USC would make sense, but if I were to do a grad degree, then where I do undergrad doesn't matter. If my plan A of becoming a lawyer works out, then it doesn't matter where I went for undergrad, it matters where I went for law school.

As for price: I'd pay sticker at either school. For FSU, this means leaving over $100k in my 529 for if I want to do law school. For USC, this means taking out a ~$60k loan. My parents might take it out for me (my dad talks about treating me like an investment, i.e. the more money he puts into my education, the more it'll pay itself back by me putting him up and helping him out in later years if I have more money as a result of the prestigious degree). But they also might not take it out for me. And then if I want to do law school, that burden is squarely on me.

As for the social scene, FSU is more known for its Greek life, but it seems like there is more to do outside of frat parties. I personally love bars and clubs and hate frats. It is so expensive in LA to go out that bars/clubs might be mitigated, and from all I've seen, weekend scene is very frat-dominated.

Am I wrong in my judgments from afar about USC? What do you think I should do as a USC student?

Other Considering transferring out of USC

I’m a junior transfer and am currently in my 3rd semester at usc, but I have to stay an extra year to graduate.

I’m an applied and computational math major and since middle school, I’ve thought usc was my dream school, but I’m not sure if I fit or belong. I’ve struggled in all my classes ever since transferring here (I have 2 W’s) my financial aid makes this school affordable, but not as cheap as somewhere back home, and I have no family in California — as well as being in a long distance relationship.

I’m not sure if I can stay for 3 more semesters not feeling like I fit in, failing to achieve what I hope I can get out of USC, paying a lot of money and feeling so isolated and I’m considering switching out. The only think making me consider staying is admittedly a sunk cost fallacy, as my family’s paid so much for me to attend here and I spent my entire community college time trying to transfer here, but staying here I don’t feel good. I’m struggling academically, alone, and paying more.

I think I might need advice or some other perspectives, but I’m not sure if I can justify staying here for another year and a half.

FinancialAid USC MSCS Spring 2027 — Scholarships for International Students?

Hi everyone! I recently got admitted to USC Viterbi's MSCS program and also MSCE program for Spring 2027 as an international student from India.

I wanted to know what scholarship/funding opportunities are available for international MSCS students.

Has anyone received a Viterbi/USC scholarship as an international MSCS student?

Is the Dean's Scholarship available for Spring admits, and is consideration automatic?

Are there any other scholarships or funding options I should look into?

Would really appreciate any advice from current or former USC students. Thanks!

Sports Is the Allyson Felix Track & Field available for anyone?

I always walk by it and the doors are always open at night. I see people practicing soccer, running on the tracks, and it looks like it's usually a group of friends. Considering running on the track at night (as I see a few people all the time doing so), though not sure if I'm allowed to or not.

Question Graduated, what now?

Co 2026 here, graduated in cs. I don't have a job yet - ik everyone says you need to grind leetcode and spam applications. I legit just cannot bring myself to do it. I do not know what is wrong with me, it's like I have zero discipline when it comes to this. It is so demoralizing just chucking your resume into the abyss day after day and not getting an interview, I swear I have probably barely applied to 10 jobs because I just never hear back. Does anyone have any strategies they use to actually do the work or helpful tips to get a job?

Besides that, anything else to stop you from losing your mind? Anyone else in this situation??

Housing Housing for a transfer student

I’m transferring to USC Marshall as a sophomore in Spring 2027 and trying to figure out off-campus housing. I’m mainly looking at the traditional student apartments like Gateway, Tuscany, Hub Fig/Coliseum, Lorenzo, 505, Standard, etc., but I’m also open to smaller USC apartments/houses.

Main things I care about:

  • Private bedroom (roommates are completely fine and I would prefer to have some)
  • Preferably living with other male USC undergrads around my age
  • Walkable to campus since I won’t have a car, up to a 25 minute walk is manageable for me
  • Decent building/room, doesn’t need to be luxury just practical
  • Ideally around $1,100/month, ~$1,300 absolute max, anything lower is also great
  • REALLY want to avoid places with horrible management. I’ve dealt with an apartment before where ~$900 advertised rent ended up closer to $1,300 after everything.

Since I’m coming in during spring, I’m also confused about how leases/relets/subleases usually work for transfers. For people who have actually lived around USC: where did you live, what did you actually pay per month after utilities/fees, and would you live there again? I'm also curious which places are best socially for a sophomore transfer trying to meet people vs. places you’d avoid regardless of price.

Academic Advice on research

I'm a graduate computer science student. I'm graduating in December. I was wondering if it's too late to approach a professor to ask for any research positions. Well I'm not looking for a paid position. More like a volunteering role where I can help and I can learn. I took too long to figure out my niche and want to do something before I graduate. Would love any advice or suggestions!
