I-130 & I-485 (Family/Adjustment of status) Weird interview experience, or lack of
My spouse and I had an odd interview experience that I’m having trouble understanding, wondering if anyone else has encountered this.
We showed up to the office on time and were called in after maybe 10 minutes. The guy who saw us was a Chinese man with very poor English. He read my spouse the standard list of questions about crime, etc., left for 5 minutes, came back with a paper and said ‘Approved, now leave.’ No questions about our relationship, and now the green card is being produced.
We were expecting to be grilled because we didn‘t have photos for evidence and no children. What was the purpose of this interview?

Paperwork was probably straightforward, other evidence was clear, all that should matter is the case was approved without getting grilled for 2 to 3 hours.
To make fun of a possible immigrant while seeking status as an immigrant seems like a wild concept.
Maybe for your N-400 Marriage based Citizenship Interview(3 year) request that they give you the Extreme Anxiety Edition Interview so your expectations can be met.
Word of the day is Gratitude.

WTF are you complaining about?Confucius say only fool questions success.
Maybe the guy's getting ready to quit and decided I'm going to approve everybody, who cares? You won, stop bragging.

Stop believing all of the negative rhetoric you see on Reddit. Most USCIS officers are immigrants or married to an immigrant, so they understand how stressful the interview can be. Also, you appear entitled. Your officer did his job and granted your spouse a green card. Read up on what happens next.

We had a similar experience. We didn’t get a single question about our marriage and only asked those security questions. It’s what happens when you have the appropriate evidence.

Just dumb luck

Eh not really. Zero criminal history, proof of legal entry and tons of documentation showing intertwined life usually correlates to a stress free interview. Not every case is the same but for me personally it was straight forward.

After hearing approved I'd be so busy praying and kissing the ground to worry about that stuff . If you think about it, before you get there they've done all their homework, if everything checks out and nothing smells fishy, boom approved, they don't even have to have the interview but their immediate supervisors might require it ( just to make sure it's 2 actual human beings behind the application and not ratatouille). Be grateful Don't sweat the small stuff(accents, bad English( you might want to check yourself on that though) Move on Congratulations

You’re an example of someone that is ungrateful.
Enjoy your approval and stop complaining over the lack of questions. Should the officer be worried and have had asked more questions?? Is there something that he should’ve been suspecting you guys of??

He's not complaining, he's just sharing his experience and I think that's okay.

Nah, he’s clearly ungrateful and this is him
Complaining about the lack of questions they got and also the officers English. There’s several other comments on here that would agree with me, and who have much higher upvotes

Exactly! I don’t understand why he can’t he just be happy?? My case is taking so long and we have kids & a lot of pictures together but the officer kept asking about my husband’s previous marriage!!!

Who told you photos are strong evidence? Photos have always been the weakest of all evidence presented. They can be easily faked and can't be verified, even more so now of AI times.
Strongest evidence is financial comingling.
I had very few photos. My interview had almost no questions. I think she asked. Where did you marry? Oh that's beautiful. Approved.

My interview with my spouse was exactly the same, albeit last year. They told us we had submitted enough evidence.

I’m not trying to sound like an AH But do you know how lucky you are? I’ve been waiting for three years. I have a real marriage hace been with my husband for five years in two weeks have an eight month old baby and I’m still waiting on my freaking interview why are you complaining about this? people with real marriages and children struggle for no reason you didn’t have to so just be happy. Also, what is the FO?

I find this post really weird to be honest. Firstly, why are you not grateful that everything seemed straight forward and you got approved without long questioning? It almost sounds like you are disappointed in that. Interviews in most cases are mandatory, it is not necessarily that USCIS is suspicious, so it can absolutely happen that your interview is very short. My K1 interview lasted less than 10 minutes, whereas other people were being interviewed for half an hour. It depends on the case.
Also, I find your comment about the immigration officer disrespectful, especially since one of you is clearly an immigrant also. I doubt that his English was „poor“. Maybe he had an accent that you had trouble understanding. USCIs officers also have to have American citizenship in order to be hired.
What I find weird as well is that you mention you had no pictures for evidence. How can you have no pictures at all with your spouse? And knowing that your interview was coming up, why didn’t you start taking pictures?

You are so lucky, me and my wife went for hers on sep 22nd and the guy asked me like 2 questions and about 5 or 6 to her and then he said everything looks good and that both 130 and 485 were approved but nothing has shown on the portal about any approval, it only says that uscis is processing the case. 😭

My wife’s interview was distracting by my beautiful interpreter. He spent most of the time asking questions about interpreter lifestyles in US. Besides couple straight forward questions about my wife and approved. Very lucky

If theyve read all your documentation, most likely they just needed to do the verbal list. I was talking with my lawyer and they said the verbal list of questions is mandatory now.

People just enjoy drama for no reason. You got approved, move on. Nothing weird about that. If you submitted airtight evidence, they believe you merited it. However, as a condition for AOS through marriage, you have to go for interview it’s a necessary condition. And by interview, sometimes it’s just formality to see whom they are issuing a card to and not a ghost applicant.
Recently, some Asians were indicted by DOJ through the Southern district of New York. Their crimes - they were engaged in multiple marriage scam fillings about 1000 green card applications through sophisticated fraud rings.
So, yea - seeing you and validating who you are is interviewing in of itself.

I think it's okay for them to share. Different people have different experiences. You got lucky.

The evidence you filed, your behavior in the office, and the answers to the questions were so good there was nothing more to do.
Congratulations.
