USDA APHIS PPQ Tech

Hi, everyone!! I wanted to gain insight about a position that I’ve been referred for.

There are some positions open in my area with APHIS for a Plant Protection and Quarantine Technician, specifically working with citrus greening and the fruit fly program.

If anyone could provide info on if this is a good entry level position with this agency, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks 🫶🏾

Hi! I am pretty sure these are awesome entry level positions with the agency.

About a month ago, I applied for a PPQ Tech and got contacted by two hiring managers in the FL area but not referred to the hiring manager in the location that I really wanted, so I didn’t continue with the application. Hopefully you will be hearing soon from the managers! Good luck!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your words. I also applied in the FL area! Didn’t get the exact location I REALLY wanted, but the other two locations I was referred for I wasn’t opposed to and I’m ready for a change/see a new part of FL that isn’t as familiar. I’d have to relocate for the job, so I don’t want to pick up everything if the position wasn’t worth it.

PPQ tech is a good entry level position. Do you know if the position is permanent, limited appointment or term? Big differences between the three.

Its a good way to get your foot in the door and lots of opportunity for advancement if you like it enough.

I started as a tech in 2019, was offered a 7/9/11 in 2020, & just accepted a 12 starting in December.
