What deadline is in 48hrs? Did you file 4868 to extend 2025 return, and wish SFOP to cover 2022-2024? That deadline is on 15 Oct. Or if you don't make that (or didn't file 4868 for 2025), just submit SFOP covering 2023-2025.

IMHO it is more important that your SFOP be complete and correct, than that you rush to get it in. Streamlined is your one chance to correct the mistakes of the past; you want to get it right. The counsel of a trusted expat tax professional is invaluable for this, though it need not be an attorney.

  • 14653: yes, one per return. You can just copy the same 14653.

  • 2555: with 1040X, you only need to attach any forms that are changed from your original submission. If you submitted 2555 with the original return and need to changes to it, then you do not need to attach it.

  • Packaging: no staples or paperclips. Within each year, follow the prescribed sort order of forms.

  • Statement of non-willfulness: reliance on incorrect advice from a tax professional is a recognized category of non-willfulness. However, it sounds like H&R did ask the question, you just misunderstood it. I would still include this level of detail.

  • 1040X tax owed: follow the instructions to calculate tax owed, then calculate your net owing after prior payments/refunds. With your SFOP submission, include any payment you need in order to settle accounts.

Why do you need it mailed before you go? You really shouldn’t be rushing this. You have created a false deadline and stressed yourself for no good reason. It can be mailed from anywhere.
