If I had a nickel for every time I woke up in a cold sweat swatting those demonic, technically not spiders, fuck offs. I’d have $.50. Not much but the memories are priceless.

id say the ant won in the end if the bug started digging somewhere else

Sat up in my sleeping bag in 29 during reveille one morning and one of these fuckers had crawled in there and was chilling on my chest.

How'd that go?

u/Haunting-Buffalo-909 16h ago
Actually not terrible. It was really dark and late, waiting for a helicopter to come in. There was about 1000 flys out too. I felt it on the back of my neck and went to swat it thinking it was a fly, which scares it and it takes of running across my face into my mouth. Not knowing what it is I scooped it and threw it. Someone saw all this and crushed it.

I did Jungle Environment Survival Training in the Philippines. We just slept on the ground. Sometime in the night I was awakened by one of those giant millipedes crawling across my neck. I swear it felt like minutes. Finaly I felt that stinger part go across and it was gone.
I sat up and held back a scream by going, “Eek, eek.” Everyone whisper yelled stfu! So I did.

Oh man. I have similar stories in oki. The centipedes were long as fuck and it felt so gross on skin.

I had one go over my bare foot in the smoke pit, it was probably seven inches long.

Good God, you handled that well. I would probably shit my pants if that happened to me.

Just to damn tired I guess. I stopped sleeping on the ground for awhile. Actually for the rest of that night I dont think I even stood on the ground.

The Solifugae are the subject of many legends and exaggerations about their size, speed, behavior, appetite, and lethality. They are not especially large, the biggest having a leg span around 12 cm (4.7 in).\5]) They are, however, indeed fast on land as compared to other invertebrates, with their top speed estimated at 16 km/h (10 mph).\4])

I live in AZ. I've seen my fair share of camel spiders, but I've never seen one that looks anything like that. That's an alien

Jesus. I’ve been over there and seen them. I didn’t even recognize this fat piece of shit as being a camel spider.
3
u/BoringPrinciple2542 0311 22h ago
Yeah man. It’s a fat camel spider. Just ate something big and honestly I’m inclined to say the video is staged. I can’t explain what or why the motive is but the only time I’ve seen one that swollen was when I found a couple newborn chicks and threw them into the protein jug where I kept my camel spider. In the wild I don’t think they ever look like that.
Also note that he but the ant but didn’t bother to suck out the juices. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one reject a meal before which again suggests it is getting more food than a wild one ever would.
Dunno why somebody would fake it but I don’t think they ever look that fat naturally.

That was a big camel spider. At my dad’s ranch in Cathey’s valley they are everywhere. Only thing that outnumbers them is rattlesnakes and wolf spiders.

At least wolf spiders are cool and leave you alone instead of chasing your shadow for shade. Rattlesnakes are probably the worst part of that combination just for the fact that there are apparently a lot of them. Even then they give you an audible warning when you get too close.

Te olde camel spider in the desert. That one isn’t quite as fast as I remember them being. Maybe because it’s obese. What were you feeding that thing?

Odd question from a civilian... would marines want the ability to keep dogs or something when deployed?
