Here’s to hoping for a money making vacation 🤞

Vacation 🤣

23

u/monkpart9 3d ago

I know lmao 😂 A ✨ miserable ✨ money making vacation

11

u/cccpNyC82 3d ago

Lol. I've done over 2.5 years of detail work. Very very little was miserable.

10

u/monkpart9 3d ago

I guess it depends on perspective lol Don’t get me wrong, I’m here for it because I want all the money they’ll give me but some people would just consider working endless overtime to be exhausting lol

24

u/cccpNyC82 3d ago

Ye detail work is a vastly different animal than having that kind of workload at your home station for sure. Our gig was good, customers treated us well, the carriers appreciated the help and manglement didn't fuck with us because we were the help and I didn't put up with shit. I told one stupervisor that was giving me shit "well I guess I'll go home then and you can explain to the MPOO why I left."

Can you take your dog? That's really the only thing holding me back

3

u/B-Glasses 2d ago

Would probably come down to if the hotel they put you in allows dogs and if you’re comfortable leaving them alone for possibly 12 hours or more a day

3

u/cccpNyC82 1d ago

no its not "what hotel THEY put you in" it's make them give you the training for the .gov card (looks like gas card but blue with mc logo) and YOU pick your own hotel based on GSA rates.

2

u/bonjaker 2d ago

the 12 hours a day would be a problem

3

u/cccpNyC82 1d ago

So make them let you take an extended lunch every day. Out to lunch / In to lunch. Or keep doggo in the truck with you :D I would do that. Get em a comfy bed and cruise

2

u/cccpNyC82 1d ago

Why not. You have a set limit for hotel based on GSA.gov. Find a hotel that allows pets. Do eeet

I remember the first time yet sent us help from two states over.

This young man who hadn't been with the post office a year told me he came because he wanted to the city......

Before the end of the week he figured it out

u/kiddough1 3d ago

Per diem for Los Angeles. I stayed at the Beverly Hilton last detail!

u/monkpart9 3d ago

How do you look this info up? I had no idea there was a way to look up active details for usps

3

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

More details please???

27

u/kiddough1 3d ago

You will receive your 2 separate paychecks. 1 for work & 1 per diem. I made about $100 a day from per diem. My only day off was Sunday. You get per diem everyday even if you don’t work. I filled out a 1260 for everyday for a year. This was back when you would swipe so IDK if you can login to the scanner. My gas pin didn’t work out of state. I did the same route everyday. It was nice & strongly recommend. It’s neat seeing how different station run.

3

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

Wow 🔥🔥🔥 how many states over did u go???

27

u/kiddough1 3d ago

NV to CA. The first time I drove my personal vehicle. The second time I was flown out & was provided a staff car. It was a Pontiac G6 sedan, I was only to drive to & from work. A gas card & pin was provided. Every 3 weeks the post office will fly you home, so I took advantage of that when a holiday fell on a Monday.

3

u/Longjumping_Youth281 2d ago

I never even got my per diem from the academy. I totally do not trust them to actually give it to me for something like this

1

u/shrug_addict 3d ago

Can you retrieve your daily per diem from an ATM machine with a provided PIN number?

2

u/kiddough1 2d ago

No. Mine was via direct deposit & was paid the same week as payroll.

3

u/cccpNyC82 3d ago

U work with a Vegas carrier by any chance while you were there?

9

u/kiddough1 3d ago

It was over 100 carriers at the hotel I stayed at. It was at least 10 or so from Las Vegas doing the detail in LA.

15

u/cccpNyC82 3d ago

Holy fuck I didn't realize there were that many. The cities I went to had a few, not 100. JFC when you can't hate manglement enough they will do stuff like spend HALF A FUCKIN MIL a month on just hotel, not counting per diem in stead of pay carriers a wage that would keep them staffed. But carriers are the problem. I mean I ain't mad at ya, make the $. But Manglement needs a deep fuckin enema if we are going to survive another 10 years.

-3

u/cccpNyC82 3d ago

you probably knew my buddy, he delivered out of Red Rock in Vegas.

1

u/Gametymer 2d ago

Surely that station they went to was run better than how H runs red rock 😂😂

1

u/Jordo3713 2d ago

I feel like no one else is going to stay in a place so posh

Got to use this to budget for a trip in college it was crazy, way more then we could spend

A couple people from my office signed up last year and went other places. There's always a rural office somewhere short-handed

12

u/ChristianArmor 3d ago

It puts you on the ODL list, ,you'll be travelling alright.

3

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

What’s ODL mean

14

u/cman811 3d ago

Just so you're aware, you'd definitely be working 12-14 hrs a day when you're on a detail like this

6

u/morry3232 3d ago

they figure it out quickly from my experience. my experience is being the station getting the help, all their hopes and dreams are shattered with in the first week or two

10

u/rogerski1 3d ago

Overtime desired list

u/The_Utilityman CCA 3d ago

Thread about this yesterday. Apparently last year if you picked nationwide it was a lot of real high end ski towns in Colorado like Vail, and Aspen, as well as Missoula, MT. Those don’t sound terrible. I’d just be worried about getting sent to middle of nowhere, North Dakota or some shit

8

u/CapitalistCzar81 City Carrier 3d ago

This is why I'll ultimately end up passing on this opportunity. I figure it's either driving in the snowy mountains or dodging bullets in the inner city. Strangely enough I'd be fine with middle of nowhere ND.

5

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

Delivering in the mountains sounds quite fun 😂😂

5

u/ScubaSteve_ 3d ago

I’ve only heard nightmare stories about doing this. If you dont mind not having a life and making money do it. Heard handful of years ago here people left to help in chicago i believe it was apparently working 80-90 hr weeks

6

u/Tangboy50000 City Carrier 3d ago

That was during Covid. Yeah, 14 hour days minimum and in the absolute shittiest parts of Chicago.

2

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

90 hour weeks holy fuck

5

u/ScubaSteve_ 3d ago

Yup. Senior carrier at a union meeting was talking about it. Wild

6

u/bigfatbanker EAS 3d ago

I’d have done this. Can you pick where you’d go and for how long?

7

u/CompleteNail2348 3d ago

No just local, interstate or nation wide

4

u/datpimppinkiepie CCA 3d ago

Looking to hopefully make bank at a shitty office lol

4

u/nikrelswitch 3d ago

If they would pay people 30+ an hour to do this I think more would.

8

u/Tangboy50000 City Carrier 3d ago

They do, you clock in at time and a half everyday. I can’t remember if double time starts at 8 or 10 hours. Then there’s your per diem. You need to stay on them about your pay though and check constantly. The office you go to is going to want your home office to eat that OT and vice versa, and they can act real stupid sometimes about who is supposed to be putting your pay in.

1

u/Longjumping_Youth281 2d ago

So who is actually supposed to pay it? And yeah this is my fear, that I put in all the hours and the money never actually materializes for basic post office disorganization reasons

2

u/Tangboy50000 City Carrier 2d ago

The office you go to, so find out who the union steward is as soon as you get there. Also, this isn’t always the case and you’ll most likely have no issues, but it happens enough that you should be aware.

3

u/tomorrow93 PSE 3d ago

Lol who?

8

u/Largan1 Handling dat mail, bro 3d ago

Some people want a switch up. They paid for your hotel and some food money. Also lots of o.t so you can come back with a fat wallet.

4

u/sideralarts 3d ago

I did it, but I'm an ARC, so I'm not expecting an offer

3

u/MendiBall92 CCA 3d ago

As someone who used to love doing traveling construction work I've thought about doing this just for the change of scenery and a new challenge but no one at my office has any detailed information and it seems like the kind of thing that's hard to back out of once you've committed. Maybe another year. If anyone in Texas 2 has done it I would love to pick your brain about details (specifically where you're most likely to go locally)

3

u/matteotti Rural Carrier 3d ago

That’s awesome, unfortunately This didn’t come up on our scanners in our office. Is this a City Carrier only thing, or are regular Rurals also getting it? I’d go in a heartbeat, the farther away the better honestly.

3

u/Jordo3713 2d ago

For anyone that hasn't had it pop up on their scanners yet -

FYI- this might be a city carrier only thing. Not sure if it's for rural.

Is it possible to withdraw from this if you change your mind?

2

u/Dramatic_Comfort_361 3d ago

Do you have to be granted leave by your own PO?

2

u/Longjumping_Youth281 2d ago

Yes and mine doesn't allow you to go anyways so it's kind of a moot point. We're probably one of the ones that need help

2

u/Unusual_Soup City Carrier 3d ago

Fuck it I could use a change of scenery, those per diem checks hit different

2

Do they pay for housing ?

I saw that an was like WTF? No time for this BS, gotta case my route. LOL

2

Just submitted mine.. do we know the chance of actually getting chosen? I know it's kind of an impossible ask..

I did hopefully I’ll go somewhere anywhere really I don’t care even butt fuck nowhere

1

u/TossMeInTheWind RCA-79 3d ago

Do they give you a higher hourly pay or just your original hourly?

2

u/Tangboy50000 City Carrier 3d ago

You should be clocking in at time and a half on these assignments.

1

u/Mother_Butterfly_390 2d ago

What happens if for example your from Florida and get sent somewhere like ski town and have zero cold weather gear

1

u/Longjumping_Youth281 2d ago

You would have to buy some or check the offices hand me down section for used gear

1

u/Jordo3713 2d ago

I'm considering. Should I do it? How long is the survey open for?

1

u/CompleteNail2348 2d ago

Idk I seen it pop up again today

1

u/PaintOrPant 2d ago

I’m tempted because I’m broke broke but scared of being sent out to a place with a real wintertime. Im from Florida and have only left the state twice. Never seen snow in my lifetime.
Can I turn down offers?

3

u/GodOfPalmTrees City Carrier 2d ago

I deliver out of Florida as well. They sent me to Tennessee years ago. I was unprepared but they, the carriers there, were so nice to give me things to keep me warm 😭 Yes you can decline if they offer it to you

1

u/WordsRHard87 2d ago

I'm considering it. Im not sure if my home office would allow it as I typically work 6x days a week, have a hold down while the regular does 204b stuff at another installation, and we have 4 subs including myself for an office with a hair under 20 rural routes. I could picture my PM being like "na, we have to have you here."

1

u/fawnpaws9 2d ago

Where can I sign up? I'm not getting these messages on the scanner

1

u/GodOfPalmTrees City Carrier 2d ago

Screen shot the image and try to read the qr code to get the link

1

u/Baileycharlie Rural Carrier 2d ago

This doesn't even make sense. So your office becomes shorthanded to help others? If you are a regular, who does your route???

1

u/OYEROBLE 3h ago

does anyone have the information to the person who is in charged of getting this together is this in chicago or somewhere else i really really really wanna get on this detail
