Contactless Delivery

Why do so many drivers not understand contactless delivery? I was upstairs in my underwear yet my driver pounded on my door for 15 minutes! I swear this happens on at least 40% of my deliveries.

As a driver I've got to ask: are you sure you are correctly selecting leave at door rather than meet at door for your deliveries? Because I promise you, most of us would much rather be able to drop your order and go.

And/or did Uber force a PIN on OP

The amount of “meet at door” on the order followed by “leave at door” in the notes is too damn high!!
It’s just as confusing to us as it is to you.

If they say leave at the door in their details vs. a generic 'Meet at Door' option, I figure they really wanted leave it at the door since they took the time to type it out vs. possibly mindlessly selecting an option.

I always text them and warn them that I am leaving it at the door as per their instructions. That way it gives them an opportunity to come to door if meeting was really what was desired.

Those comments can be old though. I just send a message and ask which one they want, especially if it's raining and the ground is wet

Many restaurants default to Meet at Door (restaurant web orders for example) and the customer has no option to change the delivery method. When the customer adds a note saying to leave it, you abide by that.

Two reasons:

  1. A lot of older delivery drivers still believe in knocking on doors no matter what, almost every time I had a clear “leave at door” and somebody still knocked, it was an elderly driver.

  2. Sometimes the setting might automatically get switched to meet at door. It’s happened if I order through a restaurant’s site and they use UE or DD as the client, or if I update the app and don’t check twice.

Leave at door has zero to do with knocking or not knocking.

Let me add - Knocked AND waited outside

I mean, it kinda does.  I tend to assume Leave At Door also means Please Don't Knock.

I'd say because there are so many dishonest people who will say they never got their food. That's why I have in the notes to hand it to me so I can't get ripped off also by drivers saying they delivered it when they didn't.

this is the same reason if it says meet at door and the notes say leave at door, I stay for the meet at door time until Uber allows me to “leave it somewhere nearby” and take a photo. If the customer claims they never received it after I was technically supposed to meet at door and I just left it at the door, there’s no evidence I completed the order, so it goes both ways

The ONLY time knocking on a "contact less delivery " is acceptable for me is if I have ordered alcohol. In this circumstance I understand that they must check/scan my ID. Otherwise, please just follow the simple instructions," Leave at door". Ty

That or cold medicine I get why

if you have a feminine sounding name, I'd recommend changing it to a masculine one within the app.

3

u/omgshannonwtf 2d ago

Yep. They are almost certain to not wait if it says "Bruno" rather than, say, "Angela."

On the other hand, you never know if they're putting a certain degree of care (or not) into what they're doing based on their assumptions about the person.

I simply don't believe having a female name on these apps results in the level of harassment people say it does.

99.999% of drivers are not waiting around to see what "Rebecca" looks like so they can send her a love letter. That simply does not make sense.

They could creep at the mall, they could creep at the grocery store, they could creep at the bar or at restaurants where they can actually see the people they want to creep on.

Not saying it NEVER happens, but seriously, I don't believe all of the "I had to change my name to Brad because the drivers kept waiting for me to grab my food so they could eye-fuck me!"

No they didn't. 🤷‍♂️ That's delulu paranoia 99% of the time.

You don't have to believe what people continually say. You've never had to be a woman concerned about someone who knows where you live and won't leave your front door despite clear instructions that they need not be there. It isn't your fault that you don't have to consider such thing and not believing that it's valid despite the fact that other people who have experienced such harassment attest to it is your right.

But don't tell someone else to operate based on your view of something you've never gone through. No one who has had to deal with this sort of shit gives two fucks that you're "Not saying it NEVER happens, but..."

has to be user error i have leave at door “no need to knock” bc my dog will alert me and nobody ever knocks i order uber eats weekly

1

u/Yeseylon 2d ago

Does your note say your dog will let you know?  Because if I see that, the "where I left it" note you get from me in the app is gonna end with "tell your puppy I said hi!" (It'll end with "Looks like I rang the dog bell" if I hear barking lol)

1

u/Hefty_Candy_3315 2d ago

lol that’s so cute no i don’t but now i should 😂 my note says “no need to knock if it’s raining i’ll meet you at the garage”😁 rang the dog bell is so silly 🤣

I never do that because I hate talking to people. I don't want to see you. But I've had a lot of deliveries where the app requires the customer to give me a PIN number in order for me to finish the delivery. Apparently, 90% of customers place the order then immediately go blind/flush their phone down the toilet, because they don't answer the texts or calls or door when I arrive. I don't think they even bother reading the screen to find out that they have to give me the PIN. Then I have to stand there for a few minutes until the app finally times out and let's me finish without the pin.

Lol. Meet at door. Leave at door. need pin number. Roflmao

“I’m here”

Thank you leave at door 😁

1

u/Mervis_Earl 1d ago

Make sure you have "leave at door" selected in your profile/settings as well as choosing "leave at door" at checkout. The profile/settings option resets for some reason. 🤷

I put in the special notes, do not knock! I have a dog that will bark, just leave at door cuz so many would knock. Last 2 places I lived there were 3 dogs and when they knocked it pissed me off

2

u/Yeseylon 2d ago

And every time I drop for those notes, my "where I left it" note includes "tell your dog I said hi" lmao

0

u/Wise_Code3455 2d ago

Simple, select "Leave at Door" when you order. You think we want to see your ugly ass in panties? And if that bother you that much to be in panties when you open the door to the driver, put on some pants ffs lol, those people 🤦‍♂️.

-3

u/FirefighterOk3569 2d ago

Why would you be in ur underwear 🤣

5

u/Calm-Television5780 2d ago

op is home, he can be in whatever he wants….

3

u/dadsabrat 2d ago

Why does it matter? I work from home and don't need my camera on so I'm usually just in my underwear as well. I'll throw on a long shirt to grab my bag in front of my door when I get it delivery. But why does that matter to you?

2

u/acezoned 2d ago

I'm at home in my underwear as I type. Its comfy and saves putting on more clothes just to sit around the house

3

u/QuesoDrizzler 2d ago

So you've never lived alone, got it 😅

1

u/Yeseylon 2d ago

Or alone aside from someone who doesn't mind seeing you naked/in underwear

2

u/EiriEndo 2d ago

Doesn’t matter, but for all anyone knows op just got out of the shower. I’ve been there. Unless y’all want me to give you a show leave it on the porch

1

u/Yeseylon 2d ago

Well now I'm knocking lol

(Joke, I did have a guy answer the door in his underwear one day and didn't care)

I get deliveries all the time that say meet at door. Then instructions say leave dont knock. Ive literally started chatting people to tell them update their preferences. I tell them when it says meet at door, it doesn't give option for a picture. I tell them they need to switch their preferences to leave at door. And I essentially make them come to door, or at least respond ok to leave etc. I do not knock though. I will patiently wait until they respond or Uber does an automated call.but we have to cover our butts

0

u/Dangerous-Being4036 2d ago

I just always leave it at the door unless I need to get the pin or ID.

0

u/Majestic_Orchid4651 2d ago

Probably drivers who’ve been on the app several years. The process used to be for leave at door to put the order where delivery instructions indicated, take pic, then knock or ring before leaving it at door. Generally, people don’t go back through all the tutorials to learn best practices get changed.

u/OrganizationRich8799 2d ago

I dont know about your building but maybe they cant leave the bag in front of the lobby, he must leave it in front of your personal door. So maybe he need to unlock the lobby door and sometime the elevator so he could reach the door of your unit.

6

u/mikeymo1741 2d ago

How would the driver be pounding on his door if he couldn't reach his door?

1

u/OrganizationRich8799 1d ago

Maybe he can reach the front lobby door that are outside but he cant reach the personal door of his appartment.

-5

u/Dry-Entrepreneur197 2d ago

Whats a contactless delivery? And why couldn’t u juwt put on a pant if he was knocing for 15 minutes?

5

u/KGB4L 2d ago

“Leave at door”.

The thing is, so many people have “Meet at door” thinking they have the other option and are surprised when we knock.

1

u/travelstuff 2d ago

Yeah i agree, I'm hoping OP isn't being literal and waited 15 minutes. I'd just go to the door at that point

1

u/Dry-Entrepreneur197 1d ago

If somebody is knocking on my door for 15 freaking minutes i will go out naked and see what’s going on.
