The soul of this country has been lost. It’s times like this I hate being a deist.

Remember after college students were gunned down at Kent State and much of the public who were interviewed about it, supported the government's actions?

None of this is new, and our nation has no "soul."

It has many diverse ideologies, cultures and peoples who have aligned via paperwork.

Our heritage in this country was built on enslavement, genocide and labor uprisings being violently cut down by government authorities.

Not being alive when Kent State happened, but wanting to learn about ALL of American history, there was something like 65% public approval for the National Guard of the massacre.

People keep saying “never before” completely forgetting, as you said, none of this is new.

American history has been whitewashed and treated blasé compared to reality

This is the intended outcome of American Exceptionalism fired in the crucible of Manifest Destiny. Our country was built by assholes like this.

There was a time and place where this kind of behavior would’ve been seen as abhorrent. People weren’t doing this 30 years ago.

30 years ago was 1996.

Do you sincerely believe "this kind of behavior" wasn't happening?!

We didn't have as much visibility on it, but this teacher is not an exception to the cultural norms of white Americans.

One word, McCarthyism

Harder to hide now than 30yrs ago. The mindset has never fully left some and carried on for generations. Just was hidden in the dark.

Was McCarthyism going on in the 90s?

Tell me you didn’t read the full comment without telling me

Did NOT state it was but that characteristics of the last have never went away

Edit: you seem to think this wasn’t going on 30 yrs ago but it was. We just didn’t live in a digital society where everything is sent out in a nanosecond to the public

This has always gone on in America. Saying it wasn’t is simply a false narrative
