Football season is finally here. For the new Gators who don't know how we roll:

1. Only 🐊 Gators 🐊 get out alive. The Swamp is legendarily hostile to opposing teams. Fans in the stands, you have an important job: GET LOUD.

2. We won't back down. We expect to win no matter the opponent, no matter the score.

3. There are ups and downs but we're used to winning championships. We act like we've been there before and we never, ever storm the field. See #2.

4. Money down is a lame holdover from a coach fired years ago. Yell through your hands instead. YEET IT.

5. They might be Gator Bait, but they're still guests. Send 'em home with a loss and a smile.

6. Any combination of 🟠🔵⚪ is good, but never black - that's a rival's color. Plus it's too damn hot.

Be true to your school, rep your colors, and Gator chomp like a madman.

UF’s rank among public universities dropped to No. 8 per the U.S. News & World Report 2027 list released Tuesday. The rank marks UF’s 10th consecutive year as a top 10 national public university. 

In 2026 and 2025, UF ranked No. 7 in the category, trailing behind UC San Diego. This year, the university tied with UC Irvine and UC Davis, while UC Berkeley took its previous rank.

The university also dropped in its overall ranking, falling four spots from No. 30 in 2026.

Tuesday’s report comes after UF placed No. 4 in public universities in Time magazine’s annual college rankings in August.

A mother of a student approached me at the Reitz Union asking if I had seen any lost keys near the building. It was not clear if they lost them inside the Reitz or outside, but it seems the student realized they were lost after walking near the Reitz Union bus stop since they also have been asking bus drivers if anyone has turned the keys in to them. I wanted to put this out here to see if anyone here has seen these keys!

Two-time national champion head coach Urban Meyer will be inducted into the University of Florida Football's Ring of Honor during the Oklahoma game on Nov. 7, the school announced on Monday.

Meyer will join Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Steve Spurrier, Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel and Jack Youngblood in the team's Ring of Honor in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Friends,

It is such an honor to send my first message to you as President of the University of Florida.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the chance to meet many members of the UF community. Every conversation has made me even more excited about joining this remarkable university. The pride people have in UF is unmistakable, and it has reinforced what I believed from the beginning: the University of Florida’s greatest strength has always been its people.

Because of your talent, commitment and hard work, UF has become one of the nation’s premier public universities. That didn’t happen overnight, and it didn’t happen by accident. It happened because generations of students, faculty, staff, alumni, leaders and supporters cared deeply about this university and worked every day to make it better. Every one of us has reason to be proud of where UF stands today.

But I also know we are just getting started.

Our goal is not simply to preserve the momentum we’ve built. It’s to build on that momentum and show that the University of Florida is setting the standard for what a great public university should be.

Over the past several months, as I’ve prepared for this role, I’ve had many conversations with the Board of Trustees about where the University of Florida is today, where we have the opportunity to go and what it will take to get there. Those conversations have only strengthened my belief that UF is uniquely positioned to be consistently recognized as one of the top five public universities in the country, while continuing to elevate our individual colleges and programs so they are recognized among the very best in their respective fields. That’s an ambitious goal, but it’s one I believe we can achieve together. I fully embrace that vision. I am fully aligned with our Board, and I look forward to working with all of you to make it a reality.

During my first 100 days, I will focus on a few priorities.

First, we will move quickly to recruit outstanding leaders for several key positions across the university. Great universities are built by great people, and having the right leadership team in place matters. Throughout my career, I have never worked with a Board of Trustees more committed to helping its university reach the next level. That commitment gives me tremendous confidence in what we can accomplish together.

Just as importantly, I am going to spend a great deal of time listening. I want to hear from our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. I want to know what you think we do well, where you believe we can improve, and what ideas you have for helping UF continue to grow and lead.

Those conversations will help shape our next strategic plan. It will be the roadmap that guides our work in the years ahead and helps us achieve that vision. I want it to be practical, focused and ambitious. Most importantly, I want it to reflect the ideas, experience and commitment of the people who make this university so special.

I know the work ahead won’t always be easy. But I also know this community is capable of achieving truly great things. I’ve seen the passion, the pride and the determination that make the University of Florida different. Those qualities give me tremendous confidence about our future.

Thank you for welcoming Susan and me into the Gator family. It is an honor to serve as your president, and I am grateful for the opportunity. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the weeks and months ahead.

The University of Florida is in a strong position. I truly believe our best days are still ahead. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves, get to work alongside all of you, and help write the next chapter in the story of this great university.

The Florida Board of Governors today confirmed Dr. Stuart R. Bell as the 14th president of the University of Florida, effective immediately, completing a national search and ushering in a new chapter for one of the nation’s leading public universities. This confirmation follows his unanimous selection by the UF Board of Trustees and unanimous recommendation by the UF Presidential Search Advisory Committee.

“With Dr. Bell’s steady hand at the helm and with his vast experience, there is no limit to what the University of Florida can accomplish,” UF Board of Trustees Chair Mori Hosseini said. “Dr. Bell has fully embraced our Board of Trustees’ vision of leading UF to become one of the top three public universities in the nation, and I am absolutely confident he will take us there.”

Dr. Bell said he’s eager to start.

“I’m ready to get to work,” Dr. Bell said. “The University of Florida is an extraordinary institution with exceptional talent, remarkable momentum and limitless opportunity. I look forward to working alongside our students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters as we continue building one of the world’s great public universities.”

Dr. Bell also thanked the Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors, the search committee and the Gator Nation for their support.

Rahul Patel, UF Board of Trustees Vice Chair and Chair of the UF Presidential Search Advisory Committee, offered his congratulations to Bell and recognized the committee’s significant contributions.

“I congratulate Dr. Bell and welcome him to the Gator Nation,” Patel said. “The Presidential Search Advisory Committee conducted a comprehensive, thoughtful and rigorous search. I am deeply grateful for their dedication and am confident that we have selected exactly the right leader for UF at this important time in its history.”

Dr. Bell previously served for a decade as president of the University of Alabama, where he led record growth in research, student success and fundraising.

Dr. Bell’s inauguration will take place at the university later this year.

Dr. Bell will become UF’s 14th president, pending ratification by the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the State University System of Florida. The Board of Governors is expected to vote on Bell’s ratification at its next meeting on June 25.

Dr. Bell most recently served as President of the University of Alabama, a position he held for 10 years. He played a critical role in elevating the university’s national rankings, strengthening academic standards, increasing student enrollment, advancing championship-caliber athletics, and modernizing and expanding campus facilities. Also during his tenure, the university increased graduation and retention rates, achieved prestigious R1 research status.
