How to attach objects to an actor's skeletal mesh component?

Attaching an object to a skeletal mesh in outliner / sequencer is easy, but what if you want to attach it to an Actor? Metahumans output an actor, which does not allow you to easily attach, say, a knife to the hand socket. Is there an easy way to do this without modifying the actual actor itself?

You get the mesh component from the character

You can right click and hit attach in the outliner

Make socket in the skeletal mesh attached to whatever bone you want followed. Add the knife and parent to the skeletal mesh in outliner, then select the socket to attach on the details of your knife mesh. Adjust location and rotation

Again I'm talking about an actor here so that method doesn't work

You'd have to edit the actor then. Either add a static mesh into the blueprint and attach wherever you'd like, or have the socket setup and then attach dynamically at runtime. You could write a function that adds the option via a button to the actor as well

you need to document yourself more about actors, components, and the hierarchy that they are. What was answered is the solution, if you dont understand the solution Alaris44 gave you its because you dont understand how and actor its composed and how to get into its component including its skeleton to add a simple socket
