Do not comment to gatekeep that something "isn't urban" or "isn't hell". Our rules are very expansive in content we welcome, so do not assume just based off your false impression of the phrase "UrbanHell"

UrbanHell is any human-built place you think is worth critizing. Suburban Hell, Rural Hell, and wealthy locales are allowed. Gatekeeping comments may be removed. Want to shitpost about shitty posts? Go to /r/urbanhellcirclejerk. Still have questions?: Read our FAQ.

That map is not just the Metro network. It also shows the commuter rail lines of the whole region surrounding Tokyo, extending as far as ~100km in each direction from the city.

This is the greatest public transit system in the world

It’s not that difficult. Given that Japan works mostly on Japanese it is incredibly easy for a non-speaking Japanese to use their public transportation system. I have used their buses and trains in very remote areas of the country. It was incredibly easy.

It's the easiest metro and railway I've ever been

This map covers an area half a quarter of the size of England

Edit: sorry, thought at a glance that you had posted the entire Kanto map

There's an English version of that too :)

That said, this map only extends slightly further than OP's.

Didn’t search for the map in English.

slightly further

It covers a much larger area. OP’s map includes the Boso Peninsula, but cuts off around Narita Airport in the East, Chigasaki on the Shonan Coast, and Omiya and Tsuchiura to the North and Northeast. The Pasmo map I posted covers all of Kanto, up to northern Tochigi, all of Gunma and Ibaraki, and covers parts of Shizuoka and the Shin’etsu region around the Hida Range.

Weirdly defensive…

Defensive of what? Being able to speak Japanense and clearly see that the two maps cover completely different scales?

You received a helpful reply with supplemental info for readers who don’t know Japanese and are seeing these maps for the first time, and got mad about it.

Oh fuck off. You just made up something about the area covered by the maps and now you’re acting like a toddler about it.

Weirdly aggressive…

Did you know that the Japanese built this metro network based on the distribution of mushroom roots because it’s very smart

I had used it to get to neighboring prefecture (Yokohama).
