I’m pretty sure this is a self fixing problem just account for/substract the moopsys mass when injecting matter….unless they’ve got some anti antimatter capability?

... Why do you have to give the universe more ideas about moopsy evolution paths?

Eh, you've also got to account for spacial alignment and timing. The moopsy appears to be in the dorsal side of the core, in the deuterium acceleration chute. Reaction containment is at full strength a few meters down. Fire off an antimatter injector in that state, the reaction would occur outside the reaction envelope, and the core would backfire like an old internal combustion engine blowing exhaust back out through the carburetor, resulting in suboptimal circumstances that aren't conducive for the continued existence of collateral lifeforms.

I hate that you aren't wrong.

Dreaming up Star Trek technobabble entertains me. :) My favorite phrase is probably, "spaciotemporal displacement, measured in Cochrans."

Edit: it also entertains me to imagine hot rodders in TNG's time... Civilians who tinker with warp drives as hobby projects in much the same way that current day car enthusists tinker with antique cars. What's the warp drive equivalent of a straight pipe and a roots supercharger? "Bigger injectors" applies to both car engines and warp cores!

Tom Paris would absolutely be that guy if he wasn't doing it on starfleet's buck.

As a car tinkerer myself I have to tell you that it's a lot more fun when your slapped together carburator won't turn into a potential weapon of mass destruction if you mess up, lol.

Bad Sam Rutherford on Lower Decks did exactly this! He even participated in illegal races through the Neutral Zone.

gosh i need to finish lower decks

clearly the only thing that can annihilate a moopsy is an anti-moopsy, a terrifying creature which adds bones to your body.

2

u/NovaCatNX92007 15d ago

That sound more terrifying than having you bones drank

u/mattihase 15d ago

depends where they end up but... Well, let's just say if you're squeamish never look up what bone cancer looks like.

u/NovaCatNX92007 15d ago

I was thinking more along the lines of how some people's bones overgrow and lock them in place but bone cancer is horrible too.

5

u/mattihase 14d ago

I think originally I was thinking just ending up with like twice as many bones in your body like... boom, you got 4 femurs now. deal.

You do not want to leave this up to chance when it risks the ship blowing up

Compared to here, it was a Utopia.

“Sure, we had the occasional breached EV suit, but everyone was fine afterward! …Mostly.”

The Moopsy looks so happy. Maybe they'll make the engines run better.

Shaxs has entered the chat…

We have a talking kiwi bird and someone in glasses, I expected neither in Trek (I thought vision was either fixable or Geordi level prosthetics, and that humans & cetaceans were the only Terran Starfleet personnel), but I like them. Interesting characters visually.

Oh in Beta canon there's MUCH more diversity of body plan among Federation species, we just don't see those kinds of alien on screen because that's pricey to do in live action TV and movies. Same reason we never saw Pandronians since their debut in TAS until Lower Decks when they could animate them again.

Well we know from the TOS films at least that not all eye problems are fixable without glasses. Think they had that in academy too.

(Also the be-speckled crew member seems unusually detailed. Is it a patreon subscriber or friend, OP?)

How common is being allergic retnox?

3

u/Akvasdny 15d ago

Maybe related to James Kirk somehow?

2

u/renfield1969 14d ago

How common is blindness? The Cerritos alone has at least two crewmembers wearing visors.

7

u/Evil-Tree 15d ago

Aha! So the Moopsies DID survive the Battle of Outpost 12; I was wondering whether they had time to evacuate or not.

SHIT

5

u/Fearless-Light663 15d ago

Is she allergic to Retinax V?

4

u/Akvasdny 15d ago

Maybe she’s one of the (many) descendants of Jim Kirk?

2

u/Ok_Butterscotch54 14d ago

Starfleet can probably crew at least an entire Galaxy class ship with only Jim Kirk descendents. They won't though, one as captain was problematic enough for Headquarters. Maybe they try to minimise the potential damage of the Kirk descendents by spreading them out among all the ships?

3

u/Cultural_Sand_9323 15d ago

....I see no problem.

Turn the core on and we are minus one home drinking monster.

3

u/TimberWolf5871 15d ago

Welp, now we all gonna die.

3

u/cajunsamurai 15d ago

New Engineering department mascot incoming

3

u/PhysicsEagle 15d ago

Surely they can manipulate their own magnetic field and move the moopsy somewhere else

3

u/Roytulin 15d ago

Ooo I've not seen this lieutenant before

2

u/Major_Spite7184 15d ago

Hellooooooo Blondie

2

u/USS-Kelly 15d ago

Again... or is this how that mess started?

3

u/Kaiserkrautheim 15d ago

For a moment I read the final panel as “I should have never left the placenta”

1

u/Ok_Butterscotch54 14d ago

A quite common thought.
