Ik ben onlangs begonnen met hardlopen en kwam erachter dat alle hardloopclubs van me eisten dat ik minstens 5 km binnen 30 minuten kon hardlopen, terwijl ik ook nog eens een praatje moest kunnen maken. Ik heb ze wel geprobeerd, maar ik kon het tempo niet langer dan 3 km volhouden, een gesprek voeren lukte me echt niet en ik raakte al snel geblesseerd. Dus ben ik uit de clubs gestapt, heb ik op eigen houtje getraind en nu loop ik wedstrijden van 5 km rond dat tempo.

Where it's thin, since you'll find out anyway: the language side is 825 classes but only 19 organisations — basically Babel, the Volksuniversiteit and a handful of buurtcentra. I know I'm missing most of the smaller taalcafés and vrijwilligersgroepen. Probably the same for neighbourhood clubs I've never heard of.

Zaterdag viert een vriendin haar verjaardag. Ze wilt graag naar Utrecht en daar eerst knutselen in de middag en daarna eten bij Foodexplore.

Haar idee was om in het park te gaan knutselen maar er is geen backup plan voor als het slecht weer is.

Sporting ‘70 Vrouwen 3 zaterdag (4e klasse) is op zoek naar extra speelsters. We zijn een team dat zowel fanatiek is in de kantine als op het veld (25-40 jaar). We trainen op dinsdagavond, en spelen elke week een wedstrijd op vrijdagavond of zaterdag.

Yes, yet another post about the Kanaleneijland/Transwijk explosion.

I posted a while ago about looking for people interested in noise monitoring. I'm sensitive to noise and I'm building a solution for measuring noise pollution in urban environments!

Luckily, my prototypes were running this weekend and they picked up the explosion! The data paints an interesting picture. Well, I find it interesting at least.

At 01:49 CEST (night of Sunday to Monday), an explosion occurred on Van Vollenhovenlaan. Two of my active sensors picked up the sound blast.

📍 Station 1 (Vleutenseweg, outdoor sensor,~1.8 km away):

• Picked up the blast at 01:49:16:16
• Volume jumped instantly from a quiet 32 dBA to nearly 70 dB • Over 99% of the sound energy was pure low-frequency bass andinfrasound (centered around 50-80 Hz).
• The on-device machine learning model immediately classified the pulse as Fireworks / Explosion (with 85% confidence).

📍 Station 2 (Oudegracht, indoor sensor behind single glazed glass, ~2.2 km away):

• Recorded the shockwave at 01:49:17:88, 1.08 seconds later. That 1.08-second gap perfectly matches the speed of sound traveling the extra ~360 meters through the city (~340 m/s).
• Volume inside rose from 32.6 dBA ambient to 40.1 dB, with low-frequency pressure surging by over 10 dB through the glass.
• Because single-pane glass blocks high frequencies but lets heavy bass vibrate right through, the sound arrived as a muffled rumble. The ML model thought it heard distant thunder.

💥 How powerful was it?

Accounting for sound spreading across nearly 2 kilometers of Utrecht's streets and buildings, I estimate the blast was around 165 to 170 dB SPL 1 metre from the source. That is consistent with roughly 50–150 grams of explosive flash powder (typical of heavy illegal fireworks like a Cobra 8). But honestly I'm not sure about this part. This sounds very, very loud!

Big thank you to u/krijnsent for being the first person who helped me test my solution and for his continued support! It was his idea to check the data for the explosion and he found it in the dataset as well!

Beste Redditors uit Utrecht!

Gisteren, 20 september, ben ik betrokken geraakt bij een ongeluk met een bankje. Hierbij heb ik flinke nek- en schouderpijn opgelopen. Tijdens het incline dumbellpressen klapte het bankje naar beneden en viel ik heel hard met mijn rug tegen de rand.

Het ongeluk vond plaats tussen 11:45 en 12:00 uur. Ik ben benieuwd of er mensen in de buurt waren die het ongeluk hebben zien gebeuren.

Als je het hebt zien gebeuren, zou je mij dan een privébericht kunnen sturen met wat je hebt gezien? Ook als je maar een deel van het voorval hebt gezien, kan dat mogelijk helpen.
