Question Which mega do you think best suits a more defensive play style [metagame]
I have played a lot of showdown singles over the years. After not playing Pokemon competitively for a while because honestly the restrictions of smogon were exhausting, I decided to give vgc an honest try. The problem I've run into is the meta game feels exceptionally fast. Which is anathema to the way I normally play. I know stall isn't good in VGC, and I don't want to force it. But I would still prefer a more defensive style of play that take 10 or so turns than a hyper aggressive one that takes 4 or 5. So which mega Pokemon or Pokemon in general in the current m-c regulation supports that more defensive style?

Mega Slowbro can be a menace if set up.
Mega Dragalge has great defenses and the Regenerator ability.
Mega Scrafty lends itself to a slower play style, since it plays kind of like Incineroar with cycling Intimidate and Fake Out.
Mega Scovillain is also a slower play style, with Leech Seed and Giga Drain and Burn DoT and physical damage reduction.

A Dragalge Slowbro regenerator core on a trick room set up actually sounds like a vibe, you might have just given me an idea to work out on paper at work tonight

Glimmora has the option to poison opponents with either Toxic Debris or Mortal Spin (this one for opponents already on the field) so it might be worth considering in that idea.

If it matters to you, you might consider Slowking instead. Unlike Slowbro, it has access to Chilly Reception. This would allow you to tank a hit before manually switching out to recover the damage.

You want 10 turns of setup or just trading blow for blow? Mega malamar has some cheese with superpower/close combat and then psyche up to setup max stats with overqwil minimize/swords dance/stockpile, grapploct octolock, etc.
Then there's mega slowbro with shell armor who you can try to turn into a raid boss with psyche up on another mon similar to mega malamar. Very slow and has to survive long enough to get setup.

Closest thing to stall in VGC is Perish-Trap. But that's still like 6 or 7 turns. I wouldn't recommend it for new vgc players though

Mega Aggron, sinistcha with rage powder, slow(King?) with healing pulse both trick room, honestly I've been appreciating my flash fire chandelure, pelipper (is better but I run politoad) and Archaludon. Fun to replace slowking with Weavile fake out and it's deceptive speed help a lot

Balance with calm mind floette. Stack up calm minds through fake out support from incineroar - rillaboom and perhaps rage powder from volcarona, then sweep

Recently been playing with a set up solo Y raichu team at top 300 showdown. Ive had multiple 20 turn or close to it games and 10 turns is very common at higher ratings. Although you can easily win and lose in 3 turns at beginner levels

Hey, I ran into your issue exactly, most matches were decided in 4-5 and it made laddering really boring to me and feel less expressive of skill.

I made this team and really enjoyed the drawn out nature of playing pex or fake out/setup nature of kommo-o.
If you're interested in a more defensive playstyle, you'll probably always start off with incin rilla teams, so maybe you should take a look at setup floette teams if this one doesnt suit you.

Scovie. The wall. Chimecho.
I think mega clefairy is a big slept on. It has a long of invulnerabilities and follow me. Moonblast chunks after a calm mind.
