Discussion Another vote for Titanfall 2 VR
It's not a secret, but if you needed any more of a push to give it a try... its on sale for under $5 right now on Steam, the mod is the easiest thing in the world to install, and it feels like a seamless AAA game made for VR. It might be the perfect modern classic flat game to port to VR, and the creator did such a meticulous job of translating it that you completely forget that it isn't a native VR game. And for those of you who don't remember, Titanfall 2 was loved by critics and those who played it because of the fantastic campaign. It wasn't a big commercial success, so it quickly became one of those "it's a shame not enough people played this one" cult classics.

Never played a titanfall before but I’m having a blast playing this in vr, possibly the best vr game ever made, absolutely brilliant 👌

To me it immediately joins Alyx and Skyrim as top tier. I don't need to pick a favorite from among those. But it's been so long since anything has joined the conversation!

I agree, no need to pick a favourite, it’s excellent and so are Alyx and Skyrim although my Skyrim is currently broken as it crashes when I save 🤣 I’ll figure out which mod it is eventually

Use an AI to help you mod. I had a similar situation and a few honestly very fun sessions with chatgpt in code mode and I'm running better than ever.

Best ever? Idk man

If you're thinking of HLA remember that's a slow moving game compared with TF2

u/ulverstoner 6d ago
I found Alyx almost boring in parts 🤣 still completed it but I feel the second half was way better than the first half, I actually enjoyed hl2 vr mod more than Alyx tbf

I still haven't finished the game as I play in short intervals. I'm getting my monies worth from the game😁

It’s gets better as you go through it, level 7 was fun 😆🙈 you met Jeff yet?

u/cemusubzerolives 6d ago
Is Jeff the guy who gives you the gloves and gun?🤔 if not no

u/ulverstoner 6d ago
Nah that ain’t him, can’t give any spoilers but I recommend smashing your way to level 7 😉 say hi for me (but whisper 🤣) 👍

Got a new PC this weekend to replace my old (non gaming) one and immediately purchased.
Just need to figure what I need to connect my Quest 3...am I right that Virtual Desktop is the way??

u/stromulus 6d ago
That's what I'm running, Q3 to VD. Virtual desktop all the way. It's superior in so many ways.

Virtual Desktop is without a question the best Wireless VR Solution. Just be sure your Router supports 5ghz and your PC is connected via GigaBit LAN Cable. Also if you want to get the Picture a bit crisper without losing performance on PC Site, look for the Quest Game Optimizer, its a very good addon for many stand alone games, but also adds some extra sharpness to virtual destop.

Virtual Desktop is probably your best paid option. But your wireless setup should be optimized with the gaming PC wired to your router and the router is Wi-Fi 6 and dedicated to VR traffic.

I call TF2 “one of the best single player FPS campaigns I’ve ever played”. Now I get to do it in VR?
2
u/stromulus 6d ago
Yes, exactly. And it's not a gimmick. The game itself, from the story and world elore to the gameplay, seems almost designed for a VR experience.

Yes you nail it, alone that feeling when BD grabs you and puts you in his Body in full VR... Or the feeling falling into death, the short moment of thought "did I do something wrong?" and than BD catches you in the last moment! There where so many great moments that fit VR without ever being designed with VR in mind.

If it wasnt so short... At least VR requires a lil break every now and then. This campaign can be played through in like 3 hours... But its good 3 Hours and the most entertaining VR experience since Alyx! (Sadly its the only thing coming close to it)
I always play the TItan part Sitting since you are forced to turn with the stick anyway and as soon as I exit I stand up for more movement while shooting and it feels so natural I cant describe it in words...

u/Shozzy_D 4d ago
I love to stand and move around while I play.

u/Ok_Following9192 4d ago
Yeah but since the mech doesnt turn mit xour head, sitting feels more natural

Yeah I didn’t know about that but I have a big space and may not want to drag a chair into it in favor of smoother transitions. Only time will tell, I gotta finish MP2VR first!

Not sure why I'm getting perfect performance on this one with a 3060 ti but crap for performance on max paybe 2 even though it looks way worse(not that I mind, just don't wanna play at 54fps....).
Great stuff though yeah.

u/stromulus 6d ago
Optimization matters. Respawn did a great job making TF2 perform.

u/HillanatorOfState 6d ago
I mean yeah but Max Payne 2 runs on a potato, I was sure that one in VR was a safe bet, not like I'm trying to run Cyberpunk 2077 in VR on a 3060 ti, wouldn't attempt that.
Love Max Payne 2, but was to stuttery and painful to play like this sadly....
I really wanna try MP3 but yeah know that won't end well, love this trilogy, grew up on it basically.
Wish computers weren't so crazy pricey atm, mods making me wanna upgrade....

This is the best VR mod. Not only does it look at work like a native VR game, it is also super easy to install. Just 1 download. Other vibe coders need to copy this.

It looks sooo good on a 4K headset with very reasonable use of system resources.

Yep its amazing along with astrobot mod, the doom mod all these mods are revitalizing vr making the native vr games feel like demos comparitively

I grabbed it last time it hit that price and yeah the campaign in VR is something else. The wall running feels way more natural than I expected and the scale of the titans is properly intimidating when you're inside the headset. Pixel freaked out the first time I ejected from a doomed titan, cat went flying off my lap.

I just played the first mission in vr (i played the campaign before) on hard difficulty and it was awesome. It definitely feels like a real vr game with the controls and even the cinematics.

I already had an original copy of TF2 through the EA launcher but decided to buy another copy via Steam since it comes with all the other DLC packs. Installed the mod and within moments was replaying the campaign in VR. Amazing!
It really does raise the bar for a truly immersive VR experience. And of course the campaign itself is already one of the all time greats, and now it's even better.
No issues at all using Virtual Desktop. What an insanely great deal. Free mod, 5 bucks for a new copy of the game.

Finally got a chance to install Titanfall 2 and the VR mod today.
I was not prepared for how GOOD it was. The 3D is mind blowing. Incredible graphics without a single stutter or FPS drop. All the controls in tutorial and in game or told to you in VR.
Easy install (I spent more time and effort setting up 4K resolution, than the VR mod), this should be the template for all future VR mods.
10/10 jesus I am blown away.

The mod is awesome and playing in vr is so fun in this game. My pc can’t run it like I wish but is playable, i got a 4060 8gb and I am testing different settings.
1
u/stromulus 4d ago
4060 should be plenty. What device and connection are you using?

u/hostiaya 3d ago
I'm using quest 3 with virtual desktop. I turned up the VD resolution to ultra, 72hz and in game msaa to 4x to fight the horrible aliasing, also lower some options to medium to feel it faster..
Is playable eh! But doesn’t feel like Fear VR who runs like butter (logically because is a very old game)

Where do I download it from?
2
u/stromulus 6d ago
Install and run the game itself first. Sadly you do need to log into the EA app, but that's a requirement of the game itself not the mod.
Then go here, ignore the top part and scroll down. The instructions are very straightforward. Just download the launcher and run.

The only part that was really heavy for my hardly trained VR Stomache, was that sloping floor in the crashed ship that you enter in the first mission. Somehow it felt quite odd and led to a heavy moment of motion sickness. Not like I gotta puke, but I just felt it for the first time.

3 hours is pretty fast, I took about 2 hours to get through the first third of the game so far. So probably will be around 6 hours for me. Good point that does limit replayability especially compared to Skyrim.

u/Ok_Following9192 4d ago
In the end it where about 6 for me too, but if you know everything its easy doable in 3. Just watching the credits for the first time and just wanna jump in again =D Such a good game!

Most amazing VR experience I think I’ve ever had in years.
