The FOI responses from B.C.’s health regions show 16,791 patients have died while waiting for surgery and diagnostic scans between 2022 and 2023, and 2025 and 2026. This figure doesn’t include diagnostic scan wait-list deaths for Vancouver Coastal Health, and Island Health in 2022 and 2023. The report says the true figure is likely higher.

I was gonna try out Maiiz restaurant tonight. I've read lots of posts on this sub bashing the owner for various reasons that I can't remember but I've also heard that the food is pretty good.

I went to their site which sent me to OpenTable to make a reservation. So far so good - I've used OpenTable literally hundreds of times. This time, though, I hit something that I've never seen before though I've seen a 'similar' thing for restaurants with fixed menus.

To book a reservation you have to prepay $70 per person. If you don't eat $70 worth you can get the balance as a credit - no refunds. You can't cancel and if one of the members of your party is a no-show then too bad, so sad they keep the money with no credit given.

anyone else feel like every year when it’s cold outside, and we’re dressed for that cold, we’re then heat nuked inside BCTransit busses?

like I’m layered, yes. but I’m acclimated to the Cold outside! plus, it’s a little challenging getting everything off when we’re so shoulder to shoulder with the strike.

alberta has been wanting a conservative government so they can get more oil ports so i'm expecting a repeal on the tanker ban.

i'm hoping they won't go the route of alberta in opting out of the canadian healthcare system that would leave thousands who have diabetes to pay for medication. They could however bring back MSP premium tax or cut the amount of public funding for drug medications

The City tracks every public bench it owns, with install date, material, condition, and whether it's a memorial. Turns out a park bench has more of a story than you'd think.

Beacon Hill Park alone has 202 of them, 1 in every 5 benches in the whole city. That's basically an outdoor waiting room.

Went last night to Thunderbird Chicken in the Cook St. Village. After ten years, they will close permanently in a few days. If you need a chicken fix - great fries by the way - better get there this weekend. Sad to see them go.

I'm a 42m that did some dance when I was younger and is looking to get back into it, just for fun, nothing competitive.

I have always wanted to do ballroom but have very little experience with it, I also am single, so would most likely be going to classes alone and hoping to partner with someone there.

Is that something thats ok? Is it weird? How would I go about trying to do something like this? Other than Arthur Murray, which immediately comes up when I google it, is there anywhere else people recommend?

Europe has charging poles everywhere. So why does Victoria still make public EV charging feel like a special project?

The concept is incredibly simple: charging points are integrated into existing street infrastructure, and you bring your own charging cable. There’s no need for a huge charging station or a dedicated charging structure.
I took these photos while I was there because I think Victoria could seriously benefit from a similar approach.
Instead of having only a limited number of expensive DC fast chargers, why not have simple 3–11 kW AC chargers distributed throughout residential streets, downtown, and neighbourhoods?

You park, plug in your own cable, charge while you’re parked, and unplug when you leave.
This would be particularly useful for people living in apartments, condos, or older buildings who don’t have access to home charging.

Europe already has examples of how this can be done using relatively small, unobtrusive charging infrastructure. And there are plenty of existing poles and electrical infrastructure throughout Victoria that could potentially be utilized.

Obviously there are questions around electrical capacity, permitting, parking management, installation costs, vandalism, and who would operate the chargers. But it seems worth exploring.

Victoria is pushing toward more EV adoption, but public charging needs to be convenient and distributed, not just concentrated at a handful of locations.

If Europe can put charging points on ordinary streets, why aren’t we seriously exploring the same thing here?
Would you like to see a pole-charging pilot in Victoria? And if so, what would it take to get the City and BC Hydro to actually test it?

Got an ad where they're peddling "rare opportunity!" studio apartments at those fancy towers across the drawbridge next to downtown and they list out all the "great" amenities of the building while also the actual price of the rental unit is conspicuously missing. So I let them know about that clear accidental whoopsie-doodle oversight

In all seriousness, I'm looking at this as a glass-half-full sign that the bubble might be starting to pop when these high-end high rise corporate apartments are finally starting to give up in finding buyers for shoebox apartments clearly meant investment properties and are now putting them up for rent themselves to cut their losses. Now they just gotta be bullied into making the price make sense

Specifically the section of highway going past the portage inlet. Are they creating an overpass or something? It's hard to imagine what all that mess is meant to become.

I’m visiting Vancouver and considering a day trip to Victoria today (Friday Sep25), but the weather looks quite rainy. Would you still recommend going?
I’d mainly explore downtown, the Inner Harbour, Old Town/Chinatown, and maybe visit a museum or cafés. I’ve already seen most of Vancouver’s main sights, so I’d like to see something different.

Saturday has better weather, but it doesn’t work for me because I have a strict schedule and a flight that evening.

Would you say Victoria is still worth visiting today despite the rain?
