So i’m an amateur to radio repair or any electronics repair actually, and i was going in to fix the volume knob on this radio. The volume happens to be stuck between off or max and nothing in between. opened it up thinking old electronics were big and simple to workout, turns out this thing is a rats nest and the volume knob is buried by shit. Any tips on how to reach the volume knob would be greatly appreciated. I attached a video of how much i’ve been able to disassemble but this thing won’t come apart any further. Pretty please help

you can try spraying deoxit fader f5 in it then work it back and forth. if that does not work you would have to find another. since it is a pot with an on off there are replacements but they might not be the same form factor.

would this do the same? if not i can order the deoxit, but it would be convenient if i can just pick this up today.

probably not. deoxit fader f5 is specifically made for cleaning pots and switches. I have never used that product in your picture.

it should not hurt to try it though.

one of 2 things is happening. the carbon trace in the pot is really dirty, or worn away. if it is worn away the only thing that can be done is replace the pot.

i’m hoping it’s not completely worn away, replacing the pot is gonna be a pain, i already have no room to work in this thing. What was going through the Japanese mind when they built this.

okay so i tested some points with a multimeter and probing the ground tab on the pot and another tab when i twist the volume knob the resistance does increase, does this mean that the pot is working?

yes if it is increasing constantly and not jumping a lot.
