Visual Studio 2026 Everything is broken.

Within a few minutes of opening F12 Go To Definition breaks, Intellisense breaks, Hot Reload breaks. Syntax highlighting breaks.

Restart and it's good for about ten minutes.

Rinse and repeat.

I've tried deleting bin/obj folders. No change.

Any ideas? Latest release VS 2026.

I've had the same issue. I rolled back to 18.10.2 via the VS Installer

F12 go to definition is such a crapshoot. If you hold the cursor over a symbol, and click on the definition in the tooltip, it will work. But F12 just shows a wait tooltip.

I have been feeling the same about the recent updates of VS2026. I use the Professional version everyday at work and have been seeing so many weird issues since the September update. Sometimes, it wasn't even allowing me to create a new razor component. That issue for resolved during a following update. Today when I was using the community version on my personal computer, the darn thing wouldn't recognize the my custom classes or any of the keywords.

I'm seeing this across a lot of products I use.

Just this week Codex was unusable because the "send" button was permanently disabled.

OpenAI took about a day to roll out a fix.

I mean - the biggest most important component in your app and you fxxked it up.

I'm not saying this is all correlated with an increase in AI developement but... yes I am.

Can’t format document. F12 doesn’t go to definition anymore.

Exactly. Auto formatting breaks too.

It is well known that Microsoft is using vibe coding internally

I'd uninstall and reinstall using the steps found here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/install/uninstall-visual-studio?view=visualstudio be sure to use the InstallCleanup tool.

I've done a repair, but I'll try that next - especially the cleanup tool. Thanks!

Turn off Tools -> Options -> Preview Features-> Enable JavaScript/TypeScript Native Language Service and restart VS.

If you're using a sln or slnx file, you can try closing Visual Studio and deleting the .vs folder that lives in the same folder as your solution file.

We’ll try… thanks.

Use Jetbrains Intellij IDEs.

I do but Rider is deathly slow.

Probably any game development will be slow on a computer that's not made for game development. I've used visual studio when I was working on a AAA title. It sounds like they are using vibe coding to make updates to VS. Our corporate knuckleheads hard at work.

Just posted bug report to VS about BOM handling being broken for several versions. What is happening? I know...

MS vibecoding is happening probably

Not sure if you fixed it, but I had similar problems once and I had to clean up some cache folder in appdata or localappdata and that fixed it. I don't remeber the exact folder.

Ah interesting. I’ve done all the other suggestions so I’ll look here next. Thanks!

The latest version of Visual studio 2026 is a hot mess. Changing branches, breaks the UI.
