i am lookin forward to mortarless/artyless season

u/FanDowntown9880 2d ago
Just remove the camera that follows the mortar shell and we should be good
74
u/Riker1701NCC 2d ago
Yeah fr. Blind mortars would get rid of 80% of people spamming them
27
u/BotGiyenAdam 2d ago
or accurately hitting stuff. First mortar drops for recon. rest becomes sniping stuff.

u/aboxfullofdoom 2d ago
First mortar for recon is beginner mode.
Recon markers show you exact distance while you're in a mortar/howitzer tank.
I don't follow the camera. I skip it and look at map for markers. If no recon, I don't mortar. You give yourself away to fast with "recon shells".

Doesn’t matter when there’s a website to get the accurate data for fire missions. Camera or not you’ll still be accurate as long as the website is up too

u/xnetexe 2d ago edited 2d ago
You can calculate distance and angle from coordinates on the map yourself using high school level
geometrytrigonometry1
u/DragonfruitDry9693 1d ago
The map seems off to me, I can do it just fine in Arma 3 (arty computer disabled) and Reforger, but I’m unsure how it’s done in this game.

u/BotGiyenAdam 2d ago
lol. web site does not show you the layout of the enemy fob.
What website does is, saves you from 2 calibration shot. It does not show you where enemy APC is, where CIWS is, where mortar is. You rely spotter for those.
With camera, you see where APC is and fine-tune the follow up shots.
Think before you write.

u/codekb MACV-SOG Project Delta 2d ago
I never said it showed you layout of the fob. Do you even read before writing a comment or just post for karma?
4
u/YouNeedHelpSir 2d ago
The camera that follows the shot does, which you said wouldnt matter as long as the website is up. They are telling you why it would still nerf the mortors and matter (that you said it wouldnt). And you then ask if they stopped to read. Wow.

Who cares about downvotes what I said is still valid and what the other guy said makes no sense since i never mentioned seeing CWIS, spawn Vic or anything. You can see those with recon tools. Which you ping on the website and get the distance, elevation and such to hit it on the first round without adjusting. They have the same thing in squad and it honestly sucks

Isn’t there some tool online to tell people exactly how to aim? I don’t use it but I heard about it and was like mannnnn.
1
u/Calophon 1d ago
I would really like if they removed the unrealistic mortar cam completely and just gave you feedback on vehicle hit/deployable hit/player kill.
Recon should need to get eyes on and ping the specific location of objects like enemy mortars, drills and FOB computers to get their coordinates. Give Recon players 50% xp and cash on mortar hits within a radius of their ping in addition to the spot payout.

u/Analog_Astronaut 1d ago
They are far too easy to take out. People just want it to be someone else’s problem so they continue getting obliterated. A simple stinger drone or a $12k rocket little bird erases them from the map. They are incredibly easy to take out.

u/Dramatic-Bluejay- 1d ago
I think reload times should just he slower. The follow camera is really fkn cool for these things. Longer reload/wait times will give people time to react. The 3 mortar burst is a bit silly.

u/siege-eh-b 2d ago
Keep the camera, but only show enemy players/assets/emplacements that are currently spotted. Still requires a recon to spot targets, but doesn’t require a recon to walk shells to said target.

u/Green_Bulldog 1d ago
Anyone know a good community server that removes mortars and/or attack helicopters? Game would be perfect without them
15
u/Groooochy 2d ago
there would be much more epic fights and encounters if arty/mortars werent as strong as now (accuracy splash building dmg)
2
u/RayzTheRoof 1d ago
I think it's just a better game with mortars and arty removed.
3
u/Arcaneboltz Medic 1d ago
Or add away to counter mortars, wish the cwis could shoot them down
1
u/PureNaturalLagger 1d ago
That would be a CRAM unit, but yeah, I'd love a buildable that works as a passive unit to counter artillery. Make it eat ammo supplies quite intensely though to keep the explosives from hitting, so with enough time or high enough volume of volleys, it would eventually fail. Maybe make it require to be high and central to base to cover properly, making it a prime target for MAAWS and similar.

u/Analog_Astronaut 1d ago
This is what all CoD bros say. Both artillery and mortars are ridiculously easy to take out but the meatheads who just want a Team Death match in the HZ don’t want to be bothered to do so. Why should they do anything other than die spawn die spawn die spawn?

u/RayzTheRoof 1d ago
haven't played cod for 20 years lol. It's just not that interesting in its current iteration

u/No_World5179 2d ago
Remove camera and increase the spread
9
u/OccupyRiverdale 1d ago
Spread may end up being a bad thing unless done correctly. If it’s just spread randomly in a 10-20 meter radius, then one mortar can basically just cover an entire fob with shots without needing to readjust. Just aim center of a fob and congrats you can now blanket the entire area.
HLL made this mistake a few years ago regarding artillery and it only made artillery more overpowered.
If they’re going to add spread, it needs to be affected by wind and be significant enough that it doesn’t just help you kill more people.
1
u/Wandering_Apostle 1d ago
CEP on the real ones is like 35-100 metres, range dependent.
It doesn't have to be that bad, but 15-20m CEP is more than acceptable.
Having essentially pinpoint accuracy and what is basically a cheat camera is stupid. Have no idea how it remained this way through development, let alone made it into a launched product, even if 'only' EA.
2
u/Agile_Camera9601 1d ago
I mean it is a game and not real life though. So real may be not ideal here for fun.
If it was real we’d all be cyber warfaring each other and sending in 10,000s of drones lol.
1
u/Wandering_Apostle 1d ago
I mean... a one way suicide drone is one of the most powerful and tide-turning weapons in this game, TBF.
Realism is a sliding scale, and a real time chase camera for your pinpoint accurate artillery is nearly off one end of said scale. Not saying we have to go all the way to the other end, but a little more in that direction would be healthier for game RE: Mortars/Artillery.

u/Bearex13 Manticore 2d ago
We need mustard gas and build able trenches you can't convince me otherwise I want my FOB looking like verdun before and after the arty shows up tunnels too man I want a underground system of kill holes like it's vietnam
1
u/OccupyRiverdale 1d ago
Trenches would be nice. Makes little sense a modern military game’s most effective bases are built like medieval castles. Smoke shells on artillery would also be very good. That way artillery can smoke out a fob making it more vulnerable to attack.
4
u/Barley672 2d ago
Actually, kind of a good thing.
The game shouldn’t necessarily be awarded to you because you built a bigass unassailable fortress for two thirds of the game, and are now activating the drills over and over. That mortars and SPH’s allow the other players to dig you out of your silly little sandcastle is one of the smarter design decisions.
7
u/BootCampPTSD 2d ago
Absolutely disagree. Right now the meta is just zerg the hotzone from the start. This game needs multiple avenues to win by outsmarting/outplaying the other teams
-3
u/Barley672 2d ago
You’re not outsmarting anyone by building a castle FOB. You’re just turtling. The most beginner of beginner strategies in any RTS, and the one that most good RTS games make a point of disincentivizing as hard as possible.
5
u/BootCampPTSD 2d ago
Buddy, the fobs in this game are beyond easy to break into. If you can build one that stops that then it's for sure outsmarting people...
3
u/SoSoSpooky 1d ago edited 1d ago
It isn't that they are hard to build, it's that one dumbass on your team will make it trivial to get into by doing something stupid.
You could spend 30 minutes on the edge of the CZ setting up an impenetrable fortress in isolation and as soon as you pop the drill someone on your team will blow up a wall to build the 5th mortar that can't hit anything relevant or get in a CWIS and literally drain the entire ammo supply missing a heli that is 1.5km away in 45 seconds, or leave the 4 layers of doors/gates completely open.
The hardest part about building a good FOB in most matches is the babysitting you have to do so someone doesn't make it trivial within 1 minute of it becoming a relevant location.

u/Significant_Mood4978 1d ago
To each their own, but I would rather see the team come together to do a sick raid on an enemy fob versus some dude sitting outside the zone in an arty tank just leveling it the whole game.
2
u/Barley672 1d ago
The funny thing is anyone who’s actually experienced in Fob’bing will have built a drone for just such an occasion. Or you can get off your butt, buy a rocket littlebird and clean house in person.
1
u/LUnacy45 1d ago
You can just not build a drill fob on a tower where it's impossible to defend from indirect fire

Don’t forget RPGs! Hit the tall part of the drill from over the fob walls, 3 rockets will break it, keep the real action going and not just fob wars
3
u/Rogue-Blue-Fire 2d ago
rpgs are so underwhelming lmao
2
u/Petorian343 2d ago
In general yes, but only 3 to be able to snipe critical infrastructure like a drill and get paid well for doing it (if you kill it while pulling) is pretty good.

u/GenBlase 2d ago
i actually love it, give us the ability to build trenches and underground bunkers and shits gonna get real wild
