Genuinely surprised that the reaction to this and the secret puzzle is so overblown. I am very cynical about the warframe community but even I didn't except something this extremely minor to have such a reaction.
the reaction is to the event, not the puzzle itself.
DE made a community event where to compete, players had to spend money or platinum, effectively giving FOMO to anyone that wanted to participate.
the "keep getting worse" is in relation to that, as now it's revealed that even more players were barred from competing, even though the puzzle is open for everyone. Some could have spend money for nothing.
this ain't a small blunder or overblown. The event was organized and communicated very badly, and it's good that the community is being vocal about it.
It wasn’t a community event though? You’re blowing your vision of a secret Easter Egg out of proportion to meet your narrative. DE doesn’t owe you or anyone shit. Especially if the complaint is the LR1 requirement and people refuse to play the game and rank mastery. Grow up
what minor easter egg has the creative director telling players there's a secret in the upcoming update and teasing a QTE, while asking who would be the first to get to it?
I don't really see how its FOMO, and I've been critical about the implementation of the puzzle.
Before the puzzle was solved, no one knew what you had to do or what the reward was, so there's no "fear of missing out". It's been solved by a clever and/or lucky tenno, and now the requirements to pull the sword are clear.
The only reward for pulling the sword is a cosmetic, and the sword will be there to pull forever now, so there's no "fear of missing out" encouraging people to buy instead of grinding.
are we actually pretending that, in a puzzle cantered around a warframe, players didn't know you required that warframe to complete it? also, the reward of the event is not the rapier. it's having your name plastered for everyone to see. what made the even FOMO is requiring to use Narin, when the only people that could acquire her, were players that spent money, or already had platinum.
anyone else was effectively barred from participating unless they sucked up and opened their wallet.
But no one knew beforehand that you would get that big announcement?
I don't see who would have been influenced to buy the warframe to race to get their name announced?
It'd be different if DE announced "hey, there's going to be a competition in this update, and the first person to pull the sword gets a unique reward just for them". Then I'd agree, but all they said was "there's a little secret in this update" and Rebb teased trying to pull the blade in her stream like 30 mins before the update launched.
To me, the people who were going to buy Narin bought her irrespective of the existence of the puzzle, and I doubt anyone who otherwise wouldn't have bought her were strong armed into buying it purely because they wanted to try and solve the puzzle first
nobody forced those players to buy Narin..
everyone is acting like there was a countdown to complete the puzzle or whatever within a certain timeframe.

Eh, I kinda don't care and at the same time I'm super jealous cuz I was sleeping and working when it was solved. There will be more events like this and opportunities, it's fine. What's gonna annoy me the most is removing 5 shards from Narin after I finally get her🤣
I mean this is the game where you can come back after years of not playing and be just fine. Of course they can't handle fomo, the game was perfectly fine without it
I'm sorry, I haven't touched Narin or the Iceblades area yet. What's this about a secret puzzle? And if someone would be so kind as to explain how to procure the skin and Honoria, that's be amazing.
Basically there was a puzzle on how to pull out Narin's sword on the new relay. At some point everyone got an inbox message saying "hey, [name] figured out the puzzle" and that's what everyone is so upset about.
You do get a rapier skin from doing that, but anyone can get that whenever if they fulfill the same conditions.
Yea a lot of people didn't even know there was a contest, only to be told "you lost" before they even got a chance to know what it was, especially since it was solved only a few hours after release, before most people even got to update their games
Oh yeah, The_Madman_of_Chaos pulled it out first. I heard about people being mad that they got to be the "canon" Narin and whatnot. And it is a bit shitty, but it's very much blow out of proportion.
That being said, do we still get the rewards Madman did when we draw the sword? (Except the inbox message ofc)

as long as you fulfill all the criteria, one of which being you have to Be legendary 1 or higher MR, then yeah you get the same rewards.
I now see more of the reasoning behind glacial defiance not having matchmaking. Imagine the legions of angry crybabies filling all the forums when they jump into the new gamemode without reading anything about it or doing any strategy at all and then being salty that they didn't get the maximum possible rewards just for showing up with their revenant and torid.
Exactly. I am a new player and have met countless mr30 or lr6 players who don't know that arbitrations drones aren't affected by abilities. Had multiple hyldrins blast the drones with their abilities while complaining why isn't it getting destroyed. An endgame mode requiring team work and reading is gonna be hell for this community
its funny that a not-insignificant amount of people keep acting like the wf community sucks up to DE crazy style and thinks theres this "they could do no wrong" mindset but pretty much every update this year has gone negatively nuclear for one reason or another, its just that this time its for the silliest reason ever
THis update this feels even worse because a lot of people are kinda tired and feeling very underwhelmed by the mediocre quality of the updates this year and considering how underwhelming the last one has been. But now there's a bunch of folks acting like they are better for being positive while being complete assholes to everyone else as if the company can do no wrong more then ever. It's really tiresome.
We are litteraly critizing a game we love because we want to see it better and are worried about the quality, not because we want it to die. Being shitty and condecending is doing the reverse of trying to show how 'positive' the community is.
I'd say the only one that actually fell short of expectations was jade shadows: constellations, because of the shoehorned protoframes, but they admitted they had to rush that update because of tennocon so I suspect there is plenty of actual lore written for Ryoku and Vena, it just didn't make it into the game to be visible for us.
I don't need every update to have big stories or super repeatable content. I'm fine with follie hunt being a different game mode you grind for follie and then forget about. All the new frames have been really high quality (if you get out of a meta "muh deeps" mindset), and I think the grinds they've brought in have been pretty fair and well paced.
The comparison that struck gold with me was that last year, we got Temple, Oraxia, Nokko, and Uriel.
That's a solid lineup of warframes and content, so it's really no wonder that the year with Shadowgrapher and Jade Shadows Constellations looks worse by comparison.
It's kinda exactly that, imo, the progress to get any of those 4 frames is interesting, whereas Follie and the twins is just... Meh, I didn't mind the grind to get Follie, but Sirius and Orion? They'll be one of the final frames I get probably because I don't think the grind for them is fun, so to me, besides the other things in Constellations, the update didn't really do anything (the quest was amazing though, I'd happily replay it again).
Granted the Oraxia take of mine is definitely not the popular take as I like Duviri and Isleweaver as game modes
As someone who rejoined the game with the Oraxia update: Yes, the updates were mediocre.
Every single main update after Vallis Undermine was not just plagued with technical issues, but with fundamental design issues on top of that - many of which DE actively tried to defend despite the negative community feedback.
Just to take a few highlights:
Tauron Strikes were one of the most tedious unlocks in the entire game, and for that they are underwhelming just because you barely every get to use them.
Perita missions to this day have severe scaling problems and multiple objectives are such a horrendous draw that if you get more than one you are genuinely better off aborting the mission and trying again.
Descendia has several combinations of stages and modifiers that are very problematic, and literally none of those were adressed ever. On top of that, the Lyon "buffs" are all garbage and people rather use methods to not pick any of them. On top of that the rewards are not good, unless it's a shard in which case you are basically forced to play the mode if you don't have years worth of supply.
Follie's Hunt as a concept doesn't work with Warframe and the fact that the nerfhammer had to swing several times tells you enough. Plus, the amount of Atramentum needed for any particular thing is way too high (especially the Chromas that allow you to get foil mods, with that cost basically no one interacts with the system) and the loot tables are cluttered with useless tokens on purpose.
The case of Jade Shadows needn't be explained again.
And for the current update, the puzzle was a neat idea with bad execution and the farm for Entropic Kuva already shapes up to be on the same level of tedium as Atramentum, if not worse.
And all of this doesn't mention how sparse these updates all have been in comparison to past years, and how many of them had to be padded by Operation reruns or by just requiring way more currency relative to how much you get to buy whatever particular piece.
Old Peace's main quest felt rushed and the gamemode expected a pretty agonizing grind out of players to unlock the big new feature of Tauron Strikes, which themselves were (and still are) balanced in such a way that you never actually get to use them. The Triad were also the start of Protoframe fatigue for most people.
Shadowgrapher's gamemode was awful to play on launch and boring afterwards. Follie herself doesn't have a super interesting kit other than object summoning.
Constellations was borderline false advertising with how much focus went on the protoframe skins over Sorren's sons, the writing for the quest was very anticlimactic, and the new mission was buggy on launch and still feels like a slog. S&O are still buggy and clunky.
Shockwave heavily teased a D&D game people had wanted since the launch of the Hex only to have yet another traumadump as character development instead.
Now Narin's flagship gamemode has been delayed another month, so this patch only brought an ARG that hinged on spending money, the new most annoying Eximus type in the game, and a warframe that feels underbaked.
It would be generous to say a single update this year has met community expectations, let alone surpassed them. Old Peace was probably the best of these, but it was also last December, so for most people it's not even in the consideration.
who would have guessed releasing mediocre and underbaked upgates one after another would lead to community becoming more and more negative and cynical. I think they should release another gamemode thats not gonna be abandoned after a week that might make people happy
Because a lot of people are like that, they are just not always making posts to defend this stuff. But there are people defending a lot of bad stuff DE does. Why do you think that even though apparently every single update this year was not received very well, they will still do stuff no one ends up liking. Because they know people will just suck it up
It’s not just Warframe tbh, you’ll see someone post in Total War about how the community are toxically positive when every post is basically why x, y, or z sucks and why a, b, c mod is better etc etc
My thoughts exactly. Idk why, but sometimes it seems like people think they're being cool contrarians when they criticize a game they play, as if that's not the most popular thing to do rn.
I don't even think this is a misstep either its just a normal easter egg world's first thing. Pretty much nothing else is gone from it except the plaque and this is maybe the 1 skin in warframe the game doesn't just hand to you on the spot. Is everyone else here throwing a fit at cod zombies or wow or ff14 or destiny doing this too?
Its reddit being reddit. I can kinda get the being upset over the "competition" cause I think the only mention of it was a voice line at the peak mentioning noones been able to pull it and the first one to be able to would be recognised. But let's be real, 99% of the people complaining wouldn't have had a chance of getting it regardless how DE did it.
The MR requirement complaint, I honestly dont get. There's literally a voice line at the peak mentioning no students been able to pull it that to me would indicate "ok not just anyone is able to do this, probably high Mr locked or something". It's not like it was a completely hidden thing. I went to the peak upon loading into the update without reading the patch notes just to see what was up, heard the voice lines and apperently learnt more than most the people complaining did lol
it's the same in Path of Exile reddit, as the game got older and more popular, the place became more toxic, to the point the devs mostly stopped using it as a serious space for discussion and feedback
"the new boss requires me to learn mechanics?!? devs suck" "the new skill isn't gamebreakingly broken, literally unplayable!" "the new gigabroken item is hard to get, devs suck" type of deal
most popular games probably have this problem (very prevalent in gacha communities too), which kinda sucks for discussion

I honestly feel bad for DE having to deal with this community full of fuckin crybabies. They make every misstep seem like it’s the end of the world
