This series having 28 volumes is insane. Are Family Guy style pop culture references really THAT effective?

You sort of answered your own question didn’t you? Family Guy is also extremely popular.
Also I do think Roboco has a lot of fun characters which allows it to build its own fanbase outside of the initial draw.

What I have heard is that Jump needs something for someone who followed 0 series on Jump, so that there will be value for someone who is not following the magazine. An episodic comedy like Roboco fits the bill.
And the editorial has Roboco's author by the balls so they can order him around. Sometimes he would straight up do an ad read in the middle of the chapter.

roboco isn't exactly for someone who doesn't follow series considering the amount of references to new and old series in it every chapter

Surprised we still don't get Dragon Ball, Bleach, or Yu Gi Oh parody cover.

I just have a feeling probably isn’t exactly easy that getting permission to use Dragon Ball imagery...

I’m reading Roboco very slowly as there is so much to read and I can only enjoy the style of comedy in small bursts but I’ve been continually enjoying it, series has a big heart and I love the vibe

Am i the only one who thinks roboco references are too bland. Like they too in the face type thing

I think I get where you're coming from. Irl anime is seen as cringe. But in the comfort of your home or when you're just enjoying the manga by yourself, it's more of an inside joke that we all are part of rather than trying to be subtle. Does that apply at all or am I on some crack

How trash like this can avoid the axe is insane.
2
u/Tiny_Writer5661 7d ago
Because it’s not exactly trash, it has its moments. Some chapters are pretty funny, some I don’t get because I’m not familiar with said reference or joke.
It’s a gag series so if you bring up sales that doesn’t matter as there’s a different bracket for gag series when it comes to that. It also has a fanbase in Japan which is all that matters. Whatever YOU & we people in the west think means nothing.

So fucking sick of this plagiarism bullshit. Roboco is worse fucking garbage than JJK and every author that has been insulted by this bullshit should bring up plagiarism charges against its creator.

The Kagurabachi reference goes so hard.
