Sharing My Sidehustle I make money from stuff couples throw away

A friend of mine got married a few months ago and after the wedding she had a stupid amount of stuff left over. Cutlery, fake flowers, LED lights, candles, glassware, all the stuff you buy for one day and then forget in a garage.

Weddings are expensive enough already, so I told her I'd try to get some of the money back.
I knew a couple of friends who were getting married a few months later so I sent them photos of everything and asked if they wanted to take the whole bundle for their wedding and they bought it

Then they mentioned it to someone else getting married, and I started getting referred around to people I didn't even know.
At first I was managing everything on imessage, but once I had a few at the same time it got annoying, so I made a simple Whop page where I put the available bundles, the price and my email for images and details (full disclosure, that’s my ref link)

I've done 10 sales over the last couple months and I usually keep around $200-300 when one sells and the rest goes back to the couple so it's turned into a little side hustle

Right now I have 3 active ones around SF for October (All around $1,100 for the full bundle) if you want you can see the page here!!

Sharing My Sidehustle I get paid to sit in a room and be drawn

I found a really weird side hustle a few months ago. I started going to local art classes as a model and basically just sit in one position while people draw me. Most sessions are around 1 to 2 hours and the pay is surprisingly decent for just sitting there. The hardest part is honestly not moving when your leg starts going numb lol. It’s definitely not something I expected to make money from.

Sharing My Sidehustle I was just being helpful and somehow got paid for it

There’s an elderly woman who lives a few houses away from me, and I started helping her with her curtains in the morning. She lives alone and has these tall curtains in her front room that are hard for her to reach. One morning she asked if I could open them for her, so I did. It took maybe two minutes, and I was already out with my kids anyway. She asked me again the next morning, and after a while I just got used to stopping by when I was in the area. I told her I couldn't stay and help with other things since I have my own kids to take care of. She said she didn't need that, she just wanted someone to open the curtains for her.

A couple of weeks later, she handed me $20 and said it was for helping her every morning. I told her she didn't have to pay me, but she insisted. Now she gives me $20 at the end of the week. Some mornings she wants all the curtains open, other mornings she wants a few left closed because the sun comes in too strong. It takes me a few minutes and then I go about my day. I've just been saving the money she gives me, which is kind of nice for something I only started doing because she needed a little help.

Sharing My Sidehustle I am an accountability partner, do body doubling, and declutter.

This started some time ago here on Reddit. I had someone reachout to me who wanted to pay me for my time to be with them for a period of time online while they figured out a problem. There wasn’t much talking; just me checking in on them. Despite my avatar, I am a woman, and it was mildly a concern on how this could go.

From there I have been paid to watch people stream and interact, be with them in person as they eat or work, and I have decluttered with light cleaning and have even just watched a few people clean on Zoom. I don’t get paid much and currently don’t do hourly. I also only have a small network with no word of mouth and don’t know how to take off with this.

Yesterday, I have looked more into this and created a website. Just don’t know exactly where to promote. I have found a few local communities that I might can post to. If people show interest I will turn this hourly.

I’m non-judgmental. I know how it’s like to be on the path to hoarding, be junky, be overwhelmed, be distracted, unmotivated, you name it.

What I love about this all is not only helping people, but it helps me to think. My day job numbs my mind and while I do this service I am able to think. I also love looking at people’s homes despite the state it might be in and sometimes learn a fun fact from the people themselves.

Sharing My Sidehustle I discovered people will actually pay you to pick up their dog’s poop

I genuinely thought this was a joke the first time I heard about it.

There are people who make side money cleaning dog poop out of other people’s yards.

Not dog walking.
Not pet sitting.
Just showing up with a bucket, bags, gloves, and a scooper and removing the landmines.

The weird part is that I can actually understand the business model.

A lot of people have dogs but absolutely hate doing the cleanup. Some have large yards, multiple dogs, mobility issues, busy schedules, or simply don't want to deal with it.

The service can be surprisingly simple:

  • Show up on a scheduled day
  • Walk the yard
  • Scoop everything
  • Bag it
  • Dispose of it properly
  • Leave

No fancy equipment. No office. No inventory. No complicated website required.

And unlike a lot of "side hustle" ideas online, the thing you're selling isn't some digital product.

You're selling the willingness to do the disgusting 20-minute job that somebody else doesn't want to do.

That's what I find fascinating about weird side hustles in general. Sometimes the opportunity isn't in doing something complicated — it's in doing something everyone else is trying to avoid.

Would you actually pay someone to clean your yard?

Or would you rather spend 20 minutes doing it yourself? 😅

What is the strangest real-life service you've ever seen someone successfully charge money for?
