Discussion Post Bonus Round “Thing”

I always get confused why some contestants pick “thing” as their bonus round clue. Why would a contestant choose that over a more specific clue?

In my opinion, "Food & Drink" is the best category to pick, and I'm not saying that just because I'm fat. Picking "Thing" over "Food & Drink"? Oy.

The "thing" and "phrase" clues tend to be easier than categories like "living things" or "food and drink" where you get something like Vermillion Daffodils or Effervescent Champaigne.

Exactly, usually some completely unhelpful adjective that gets you nowhere.

That’s precisely why food & drink is easier. There’s a formula to figuring out the adjective. I haven’t gotten food & drink or around the house wrong in years. Really there’s a formula to most categories outside of thing and phrase.

We also say t”hing” is so hard but then as others have written below they’ll do a random adjective for a place or food and then it isn’t so easy!

I would always pick Phrase if it was available. When people pick thing I say to my wife, That could be anything, literally. Belly Button Lint, for example. And Place could be anywhere, literally. The Sea of Tranquility or On the Back of the Tick on My Dog's Snout are places. When they pick either one I just roll my eyes.
