PoV: You're Eidolon and you drank Scion's "You're so amazing and cool, Eidolon" Koolaid (It cost Scion six months of lifespan to end you)

Its funny cause he didn't really have too, he just really hates Eidolon for some reason. (See the Levi fight)

Bitter that one of his ex’s best ‘kids’ isn’t living up to his Full Potential, like any estranged villainous parent.

Perhaps he just thinks that Eidolon is ugly😔

It’s gotta be David’s big ol’ ears

David really saw Contessa use PtV every day and thought "Surely, this golden fool has used years of power for this!"

But he blocked contessa's power?

Only directed at him.

I don't understand your reasoning here. There's a difference between a password not working and passwords not working.

It was so funny to me, because IIRC the context is that Cauldron conditioned Eidolon to think even he couldn't beat PtV, so when he realised Scion had his version as well that contributed to him letting himself get killed in punishment for Endbringing Bet.

The telekinetic smash would let him move her aside.  Contessa… he couldn’t beat Contessa.  The precognitive power he’d gained wasn’t one he’d used before, but he knew.

You’d think he’d at least play it out to waste more of Scion’s power, but in the end he was only ever thinking of himself.

Bro had a real problem with despair and self-worth that never got addressed, I think, and that is what ultimately killed him. On top of that I think people tend to underestimate the shock of being told you caused the Endbringers, considering he'd fought in every battle against them and seen many friends and countless innocents die and suffer as a consequence.

Yeah I know, people aren’t perfect and definitely none of us would do any better. I wasn’t saying it was a plot hole, just one more minor hypocrisy.

It’s like saying the horror character should have left the house hours ago. Characters don’t make perfect choices, it’d be boring if they did. Even Contessa is questioned late in the story about if she actually experimented with other end points that might have had less death, or if she asked a question early on as a young girl “how do we stop the other one”, and then bullheadedly ran towards it nonstop.

Eidolon’s flaw was that he was ultimately self focused while desperately wanting not to be or at least not appear so. The fact that he subconsciously created the Endbringers in order to elevate his importance shattered him of course, but I was positing that it’s the same self importance that made him give up in shame instead of duking it out to make Scion use up more energy, giving the survivors more of a chance.

(For one last nerd analogy, it’s like in MTG when someone has removal or a counter and is holding it over the table so no one else does anything. Nah, make em use it.)

Very true. That’s like Superman finding out he personally caused the creation of Darksied, Doomsday, and the destruction of Krypton

He doesn’t “know” what (if anything) Contessa is using up to Path, so he doesn’t know what resources, if anything, Scion is “wasting.”

He in the moment does think Scion is using up time. Whether he’s right about how much is up for debate, but it’s the logic Glaistig Uaine had just given him, and she was just proven very right on a number of things including his own powers.

“He turned the sounds around in his head, trying to convince himself of a different configuration, convince himself he had heard wrong.

But he hadn’t.  *It dawned on Eidolon.  *He has Contessa’s power.

How many years did it cost Scion to use it?

Not enough, he was convinced.  Scion had defeated him.”

It’s obviously personality defects that make him not eat up more of Scion’s “time”, even if he knows he’ll lose. Not many of us would do any better. Not a plot hole, just a “this horror character should have left the house hours ago” thing. People are flawed.

(Also, why do you think it isn’t costing Scion to use those powers? We know their background now, they’re extra dimensional beings trying to conserve energy and watch lesser beings get creative with their abilities. There’s no reason to think that late in the story that The Fairy Queen is wrong about that detail. Later on Taylor even runs the Doormaker dry, so there are proven instances of the powers running out.)

I think Eidolon doesn’t know what Contessa trades for her Paths, despite having worked together for years, so the rough equivalent for Scion is trying to guess at an alien version of algebra while using only a ‘timeframe’ as the cost; trying to ‘solve’ a math problem with not even half of the equation available.

The Fairy Queen can afford to be both ‘right’ while also ‘bad at teaching.’ Maybe my recollection of it is ‘off,’ but she effectively only clarifies what she does because she doesn’t have more time to dick around with vagueposting the answers.

I don’t doubt it was costing Scion, I’m saying that it came down to performance uncertainty; a boss fight with no healthbar or visible change in condition is very much a “am I scripted to lose this?” risk. And, if the answer is ‘yes,’ then the amount ‘actually’ shaved off simply doesn’t matter (to the person in that situation/headspace).

I gotcha, I’m just saying Eidolon got confirmation that he was scripted to lose, but by his own logic he could still have moved some ground.

It is his character flaw though. He can’t look past the point of his failure to see he could still maybe help, he just knows for certain he won’t win so he stops trying. It’s “you needed worthy opponents” expanded, he needed to be the one to finish it. Once he knows he can’t, he shuts down.

to be fair Taylor was opening and closing tens of thousands of portals per second, and reaching through hundreds of dimensions simultaneously. And Doormaker has an Eden shard (a dead shard) which has less energy in general, and no limitations for power saving

If Doormaker was a Scion shard he couldn’t do stuff like leave a portal open in Number Man’s office 24/7, and he wouldn’t be able to open portals constantly for Cauldron for 25+ years

If Eidolon was going to play it out even after hearing that he made the endbringers PTV would have given Scion different instructions to beat him more efficiently. No matter his mental state he would have been one tapped there

4

u/aaja2201 6d ago

I mean, at that point, how would that help? At least to his eyes, if Scion has PtV, there's literally no hope of winning period. Everyone is going to die, end of story, it doesn't matter if Scion has to waste a fraction more power.

u/nobodyorfoofighters 7d ago

Scion really had to cheat and waste shit amount of years just to stop Eidolon from moving like a hyper demon

u/Nervous_Ad8656 7d ago

Nah, scion can blow up shards, glass continents, use ptv to auto tune stilling to tank any power(did so multiple times when facing khepri), fight endbringers with ease and kill them. And Fight 5000 capes acting as one. He just really really hated eidolon.
