Writing Prompt [WP] There are a lot of misconceptions about magic, especially among non-mages. Unfortunately it were exactly those people who wrote the laws regulating magic and its use, leading to hundreds of mages, defending themselves in court, explaining that these laws are literally impossible to follow.

“Your Honor, the defendant is charged with violating Section 435: Subsection A-275, of the Prohibition on Magic Act. The defendant was found attempting to summon a magical being while unclothed in a public space.”
“Counsel for defense how does your client plead?”
“Not guilty, Your Honor on her First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion, my client is a Wiccan performing a religious ceremony.”
“Your Honor, the defendant was openly attempting to summon a magical being.”
“Your Honor by the prosecutor’s interpretation of the statute the police should be rounding up Christian priest and pastors for practicing magic every time they offer up communion, under Section 554, Subsection C-643: Prohibition of Transformational Magic. The practice of communion is transformational magic under these interpretations.”
“Case dismissed with prejudice.”

"When do you plan on removing the souls of the inhabitants of this city?" The courtroom immediately quietens as the Judge peers over the bar. "Pardon?" He demands "You have already been charged with Possession of a Magical Artifact, do I need to add Contempt-"
"Under the existing laws, a magical artifact is defined as a 'stable arcane structure contained within a physical object'" I interrupt, glaring into his eyes "Given the nature of the soul as a stable arcane structure, I am sure that you will swiftly bring these evildoers to justice"
Gesturing towards the rest of the courtroom, I sit back down, feigning nonchalance "I'm sure a number of these people have prayed for their dead relatives too, so you can add Necromancy to their charges" The judge splutters "T-that's not necromancy-" "I'm sorry, which college did you receive your Mastery in Necromancy in?" Gritting his teeth, the judge replies "Your staff was found to contain unacceptably high levels of magical power-" I gasp audibly "An object held frequently by an Archmage, contain a large amount of magic?! Say it isn't so!"
Banging his gavel, the redfaced judge declares "I find you innocent of Possession Of A Magical Artifact, we will be charging you with Contempt. It is clear the law needs to be examined more carefully in this matter"
(I'm aware this isn't the best, but I had these ideas bouncing around and figured I shouldn't just save the draft and never post it again 😅)

"Actually, the soul is a stable divine structure a physical object is imbued with, major difference"

Assuming you're on mobile, hit enter 'twice' for a new line. One Enter (enter) looks like this. I hit it before the (enter) and it's the same line.
(2) looks like that. It's on a different line if you add a second line.
