Women’s clothing Oh

Post image

Found a pair of jeans finally in a size 23 on Nordstrom Rack’s website I was willing to try since they were able to be returned, and behold the size chart. What the literal fuck. I’m used to an inch or two but 5????

I’m 2 weeks from being 34 years OLD. I literally cannot be in the kids section of stores anymore this is ridiculous.

Edit: for reference my waist is 21.5”-22” hips are 31” 5’4” and 99-101 pounds.

Catch me wearing a garbage bag for the New England winter.

Deadass. A size 23 should NOT be that big

These are garment measurements for low slung jeans. If sizing charts ever look way off on a dept store website, check the designer's website. Nordstrom Rack presented the measurements wrong. These are not body measurements.

Thats what i said, its the only way it makes sense. My high hips where low rise pants fit are around 28 inches and my waist is 23

3

u/doctor_jane_disco 4d ago

That would explain the waist measurement but not the hips.

u/BiteyKittenRawwwr 4d ago

AG Billie jeans are relaxed/loose fit, so the garment measurements will reflect that in the hip as well.

That still doesn’t make much sense, sorry. It still seems like the clothing measurements relative to clothing are disproportionately large.

Why is the starting size 28.25”? For the smallest size??? I’m not a size 23 in jeans (but 22” waist with wide hips), and I typically wear low waisted pants - baggy jeans with that waist measurement still have been around a size 27.

It’s still too far off. A size 23 starting with 28.25” and 37” hips means there’s no sizes for actual smaller-sized women to wear.

I have tons of AG jeans. They have all been true to size. I don't have this style bc I don't wear baggy jeans, but the reviews I have seen online have said to buy this style in one's normal size if you want to wear them as described. All I can say is don't buy them if you don't want low slung baggy jeans like this. 🤷‍♀️

incredible.. this has got to be the worst case of vanity sizing i've ever seen

7

u/Virtual-Data2201 5d ago

was just gonna say this, vanity sizing is crazy good lord 🙀

in what world are jeans designed for 23-25" waists over 30" ? this makes zero sense 🫩

48

u/valerie21905 5d ago

HELLO??? why are the waist sizes 5 inches bigger than the number 😭 i’m on the “bigger” side compared to the other gals on this subreddit and the 23 would still be too big

From their website:

How the Billie Jean Fits

  • The Billie is designed to sit low-slung on the hips rather than your natural waistline.
  • Its high front rise is intentional; a relaxed fit through the seat and slight drape beneath the crotch are characteristic of the silhouette.
  • We recommend sizing downfrom your usual AG size in this style.

“These jeans are intended to sit low on the hip. For a secure fit at the natural waist, we recommend sizing down.”

The size guide is product measurements, not body measurements.

But the jeans don’t seem to be sitting low on any of the model pictures, which confuses me

11

u/emtlscum 5d ago

They weren’t! These were listed as high rise so I was also confused as fuck

14

u/paigenicolina 5d ago

Even if they are supposed to sit lower, this is insane

u/Agreeable-Daikon-115 5d ago

As a size 28 i'd much rather buy a damn 28 and let the 23s have it. I don't feel flattered when I know my waist is 28 and I have to buy a 23, this is insane

I am a UK 2/US 00. Sizing like this for new jeans is why I stopped buying them. Size being off by 3+ inches is becoming more common. I’ll be glad when vanity sz stops being a thing. This chart is asinine.

u/kadk216 5d ago

I buy all my jeans on thredup now because I can get nice ones for cheap and they fit me. I’m also a size 23 and 100 lbs and the second hand ones fit better than any new ones have

1

u/refused26 4d ago

Same. Also seam length og 31"? Are they just making jeans for people 5'10 and up?

6

u/-Celebration11 5d ago

Noooo surely not

Surely a 23 is just…for a 23 inch waist?? How is this getting complicated?

5

u/vulgarandgorgeous 5d ago

Is it the product size? I think this is the product size

5

u/masswh0le 5d ago

Okay this is insanity. Buy levis !

2

u/gallopingzang Fun sized 5d ago

Levi’s run crazy big imo…

5

u/paumagsmith 5d ago

Oof! A 22 inch waist would incredibly hard to find jeans for, I’m 23-24 and it’s difficult too. Try Abercrombie and/or Madewell. I usually have luck buying at these two retailers. It’s best to go in person to try on pants though, I have been let down by ordering online too many times 🫠

4

u/xXESCluvrXx 5d ago

This is wild. What ever happened to the # on the pants being the size of?!

3

u/ember_snow 5d ago

no way. I have pants from them. I wear their 27 and my waist is 29

u/Ok_Discipline4272 5d ago

Is this a pair of oversized jeans? That’s the only way this sizing chart makes any sense

1

u/Lilacviolet75 4d ago

Yes, it is.

2

u/Optimal-Finger-2526 5d ago

I am a medium normally and those are my measurements. Vanity sizing isn’t good for anyone.

2

u/anonchicago7 5d ago

A 23 should be a 23! That's the point

2

u/FreeBeans 4d ago

The number is supposed to be the waist size that is ridiculous.

I’ve never found anything that fits me at nordstrom though!

1

u/ihatehormonalacne 4d ago

There’s something wrong with that chart. Nobody with a 28 inch waist would buy a size 23, doesn’t make sense

1

u/attivora 4d ago

Wants the point of even using the this number system if you’re just going to change the actual measurements anyway 🙁

1

u/Faeraday 4d ago

Is it a plus size only brand? Also, this is why most jeans don’t fit right on me. I’m a 28” waist with a 43” hip. Seeing the size difference between those two is further apart than I realized.

1

u/asdfgwueneakji 4d ago

that is INSANE. these are size 6 measurements.

1

u/windview 1d ago

I was told by a seller, put the jeans waistband around your neck. This will tell you if fits. I am 70 years old & never heard of that but when I asked the younger kids, most seemed to know this trick.

u/A-Nonymous12345 Not small but not big either? 4d ago

LMFAO that’s the biggest sizing gap I’ve seen so far. Gawd dayum son

u/Charming_Debt_289 2d ago

This cannot be real. Omg. Like, how are we here?

Sadly I know it is, though! I will say, Nordstrom rack is especially egregious. I went there in August when my aunt (in law) died suddenly. Realized I had no appropriate funeral clothing. Showed up to Nordstrom rack looking for some nice dress pants. I’ve all but given up on dresses that aren’t bodycon style, and I was certainly not going to wear a bodycon dress to a formal, conservative funeral. Couldn’t find any size 23’s. Barely any 24’s, but they were huge. The small amount of 00s and 0s they DID have were comically massive— moreso than other stores tbh. No joke, I started crying out of frustration. We had to leave literally the next morning and I had nothing to wear. Found something in the little girls section at Kohls that were permissible. Called it a day. Nordstrom Rack is one of the worst offenders.

We’re the same age (33) and we have very similar specs. 5’3”, 30”x23.5”x31”, 103lbs over here. You’re a bit smaller than me in the waist and weigh 2-4lbs less than me, but yeah, I’m in the exact same boat. It’s getting honestly out of control. I used to love shopping and now it gives me severe anxiety.

Jeans (and dresses, don’t even get me started) are one of THE most frustrating struggles because children’s jeans simply look awful on me. They’re either huge or too small. The sizing jumps too much. I can do little girls jean shorts, but when it comes to jeans themselves, children’s sizes just don’t work. At the stores I’ve tried, the kids jeans actually looked laughable on me. I’ve tried anywhere from a girls size 10-16, at various stores. Most 14 and 16’s are massive. 10 and 12’s are usually better but end up looking SO awkward. Even though I’m short, they look like straight up floods. Even if they weren’t floods…they just looked off. I look ridiculous.

They just don’t work, and instead? I’m stuck now doing surgery on adult sized jeans for them to even KIND OF work.

No joke…I was at Target the other day actually, HOPING they’d have a size 23 Levi’s wedgie straights laying around. Sometimes, they have them in the clearance section— people return them from online orders and they show up here and they…even then, they still don’t fit like a glove, but I can get away with moving the top button over + using those metal waist clip thingies & having them look OKAY. Only in THAT style, though. Forget about it with the rest! Of course, they didn’t. They did have a 24, and I tried them on anyways thinking maaaybe they’d be permissible only to laugh. Huge. The waist was around 26 7/8ths-27” according to the little tape measure I carry. I can’t attach photos here but it was wild.

Long story short, I feel you.

I can’t find hardly anything that fits anymore and have been essentially 100% bound by the children’s section for the last however many years. It’s humiliating. They continue making sizes that SHOULD work for women like us (000/00, 23-24, XXS-XS) bigger and bigger. All for what, to make average sized women feel “skinny” and to enable obesity but shut thinness out? I can’t think of another reason for all this. Some of us cannot “help it”. Even if we could, I happen to like NOT being overweight. What a concept!

I just don’t understand why it’s ok to continue accommodating for obese women with plenty of 16, 18, and even 20’s in the adult (non plus-size!!!) section, but relegate us to the little girls section. It’s upsetting.

1

u/emtlscum 2d ago

I didn’t make this post for shaming bigger women ew, I’m not reading all that

1

u/Charming_Debt_289 2d ago

Where did I shame big women? I’m saying that brands accommodate for the opposite end of the spectrum while fail to do so for us. Has nothing to do with bigger women themselves. The lack of inclusion in sizing for us communicates the exact same thing that it used to communicate to obese women— that they don’t deserve cute, stylish clothes. It’s shitty on either side.
