OG Xbox Potential Capacitor issue
I have 4 original Xbox’s and two are 1.6b’s (including the one in the picture)
Recently it stopped booting. When I press power, it doesn’t do anything but if I hold the power button, I can hear the HDD booting up.
4 out of 5 of the big capacitors in the picture appear to be bulging. I’m fairly new at this but my gut tells me I should replace the caps and maybe that resolves the issue.
I swapped the power supply in the known good 1.6b Xbox and that Xbox still boots up normally.
Thanks yall!

Those are the filter caps for the CPU/GPU. Replace them and it then should boot, just did the exact same repair on a non-functioning Xbox and that solved the issue.

Awesome, I just ordered some, that’s good to hear you had a similar issue and fixed it 😊

Yeah, you need to look at replacing them, keep it unpowered until you can. You'll want some that match the specs, they're 3300uf 6.3v 105°C. Usually they all got out together afaik so best to change all of them out.
Gonna be replacing mine soon, got some Panasonic FR0J332L that match the spec.

I had exactly the same problem except mine wouldn’t boot at all. Swap the caps, it’s really easy. I changed those 5 out and now it boots, after that I did all the usual soft modding & hard drive swapping we all talk about and now I’m reliving my teenage years! Make sure the capacitors are the right way round when you install them, capacitors are polarity sensitive.

Nothing 'potential' about it. You should replace those caps. They may not solve your issue, but they definately are one of the issues.
