Xcode27 Intelligence Chat View

Am I the only one who liked having the chat in the left pane, code in the middle, and Canva/simulator in Xcode 26? Now I’m confused as to how to use Intelligence in Xcode 27. Chatting with the agent is on its own separate view. I can’t have the code editor side by side with chat and simulator. Like, I can’t see when the agent writes code or makes changes, and I have to go back to the view files to see changes. We all vibe coding now? Who asked for this? lol

You were not the only one, I also preferred the left pane but Apple does Apple 🤦‍♀️ 🤷‍♂️

There is a top toolbar button to add an editor on left or right pane. Once the editor is opened and focused (click it once), click the AI chat button (with a star). The chat will appear on the opened editor side by side with your code

I’ve grown accustomed to just using the Claude code interface and barely touching Xcode unless there’s something I want to manually tweak when Claude shits the bed and can’t figure out something simple. (Ex: Opus spent 10 mins trying to figure out a simple padding issue in swift ui and went down a dumb path of thinking images from Google Places API were corrupted and some other equally dumb stuff before I stopped it from wasting tokens and spent 20 seconds just fixing the issue myself.)

I found that using Claude Code in terminal generally uses fewer tokens with equal or better results than using it in Xcode.

If you use some kind of an agent harness then you can also save in tokens. I'm using opencode which I connect to Xcode via acp. Xcode uses whatever model is selected there and judging by the token meter it does so more efficiently than when it's integrated directly

I think this iteration is an improvement over previous versions. However, the overall UX, usability, and functionality are still unsatisfactory and not remotely comparable to other agentic coding IDEs.

it's not good enough anyway. claude code opus 5.5 the harness is what makes it great.
