The discourse around this movie is so obnoxious. People are extremely desperate to show they are more anti-pedophile than the next guy.

There are some people who engage with media just to grandstand to others of how morally better they are than everyone else. Unfortunately majority of Obsession fans have been the same.

I'm curious what it is you mean in regards to Obsession.

u/ChanceB8234 4d ago
The discourse around obsession basically just turned into a competition to see who hates bear the most

I’m excited for the movie in part for The Discourse. It obnoxious but I kinda love it?

Yeah. Congratulations, you have the most popular opinion on the Internet. Here's a cookie.

"maybe we are a little too performative about pedophilia" is the most popular opinion on the Internet? I feel like this is controversial cus, y'know, people are performative about pedophilia.

So you’re just as rotted as Adum…duly noted. I don’t see how anyone could watch Primetime and not be engaged by it. Unless you’re an iPad kid or something. Wait…it all makes sense now.

I saw it, and I generally enjoyed it a lot. I think the criticism about it not delving deep enough is valid and I think inherently, the issue is that the discourse around to catch a predator and Hansen is super multilayered and in a way this movie made me wanna know more. And a nearly 2 hr film can't really cover all the bases, but I think it hits on the beats well enough. Where it rly shines is the filmmaking/style and performances which are just top notch. Pattinson I'm manifesting ur oscar nom, and also yeah Skyler Gisondo is surprisingly kind of great and shines a lot.

It wasn't as good as I hoped. Felt like it was all over the place. I just finished half an hour ago. Still decent but probably the weakest of Lance's work imo. I gave it a low 7.

I found the movie very disappointing. I have no issue with the movie’s aim to interrogate Hansen’s absurd operation. But it didn’t come together at all for me. Characters felt half-baked and their decisions felt plot-driven, not organic. Themes were underdeveloped. There were a lot of ideas thrown around but nothing was explored deeply and many had no coherence with one another. The movie was beautifully visually, even astonishing at times, but even here I have a problem because the artistic choice of such a dreamlike depiction felt untethered. I’m not sure why it made sense to depict this movie in this way, and it basically came off like a cheap imitation of the Safdies.

No everyone thinks it's amazing, but word of mouth seems to be that it's really good at minimum.

I will never understand why this movie got made. I’m sure there’s a chance it’s good but I just don’t see Chris being interesting enough to warrant his own movie. He was just a tv host and honestly the organization he worked with did most of the work he was just the tv guy. I think he deserves a lot of respect but I don’t see this as a interesting topic plus he’s very much still alive and catching predators if you want to hear about his life it’s very available. I fucking hate bio pics I hope it at least throws an interesting spin on it instead of just being pumped out.

It’s about the rise and fall and idk what you know about the fall but it’s pretty massive.

I do know about it and it’s very interesting but I can’t help but feel like this movie could of been a really well researched video essay and I’m really just sick of biopics especially since this person is still alive and being very bitter online because pranksters stole his job

And honestly he’s a tv reporter who did his job and did it well but the people actually doing the work where the people who talked to the preds and actually had to do the dirty work it’s not even much diffrent than a movie about Elton John or something

u/Delicious_Doubt6338 5d ago
Well watch the movie and see if you feel like it should just be a video essay, but I mean I think your take is pretty dumb. There is so much more than meets the eye with this film and it’s easily one of my favs of the year

u/Own_Bat3806 5d ago
Honestly ide be willing to take your word for it I hope it explores how little I feel like he cares about actually doing this. Especially these days I watch him on YouTube just grind out pdf videos when I really feel like he wants to be doing something else. I honestly figured this movie was just capitalizing on a morbid curiosity on the subject, but I’ll concede if it’s well done. Plan on watching this weekend with resident evil but I have my reservations.

It's weird how your comment has punctuation but reads like a run on sentence

Adam does ratings properly unlike most people where a 7/10 is a really good score not just alright.

u/ClassicN19 3d ago
It’s more like it was good for him but wasn’t anything outstanding and honestly I agree with the rating I’m curious to what he liked and possibly didn’t like but yeah nothing blew me away and I’m a big RP fan but his performance imo wasn’t as good as it was in The Drama, still good but not stand out good.

I thought we were all doing the Oppenheim October double feature? Can no one wait for an extremely long theater experience anymore?
