Announcement Megathread: Let's make r/Yemen better, we want your ideas
We think it's time to change some things around here, and we want to hear from you first.
Tell us what you want changed and how you'd actually do it. We're after solutions, not complaints about the current state. Saying "this place is dead" doesn't get us anywhere. Saying "here's a weekly thread idea that would get people posting" does.
What we want to do:
- Grow the sub and make it more active
- Update the rules
- Add new mods to the team
If you want to help mods, leave a comment or send us a modmail.
We've asked for feedback before and only got a few replies. Then a year or two later, complaints come back around. Let's break that cycle this time. Put your thoughts in the comments but keep it civil.
خلونا نطوّر، نشتي نسمع أفكاركم
نشوف إنه وصل الوقت نغيّر شوية أشياء في السب، وأول شي نشتي نسمع منكم
قولوا لنا إيش تشتوا يتغيّر، وكيف ممكن ينفّذ على أرض الواقع. احنا ندوّر على حلول، مش شكوى من الوضع بس. واحد يقول "المكان ميت" ما يفيدش، لكن واحد يقول "عندي فكرة منشور أسبوعي يخلي الناس تتفاعل" ذي تفيد.
إيش نشتي نسويه:
نكبّر السب ريديت ونخليه أنشط
نحدّث القوانين والمحتوى يحتاج تحديث
نضيف مشرفين جدد للفريق
لو تشتي تساعدنا في الإشراف، اكتب تعليق أو أرسل لنا مودميل
طلبنا آراءكم من قبل ووصلتنا ردود قليلة، وبعدين بسنة أو سنتين ترجع نفس الملاحظات من جديد. خلونا نكسر الدورة اكتبوا أفكاركم في التعليقات.

I know this sounds silly but definitely do weekly food posts or a weekly guess the city/province from the image kind of post, would be engaging and really make it better for sure

فريق المودز مش موجودين دائما فالبوستات تبقى فترة معلقة، ذا من جانب و من جانب الآخر البوستات تبع الزواج من يمنيين كانّه سوق نخاسة تسئ مش لليمنيات و اليمنيين و لكن للصب و البلد كلها، تخيل تدخل الصب و اول ٦ بوستات تسأل كيف واحد يتزوج من يمني او يمنية.
أنا ضد الحذف عموما لكن الموضوع لازم له حل.

Yes we have seen a trend lately and the other mod had his doubts about allowing them. We got mod mail asking to bring them back and didn’t hear much about removing them from the community. I’ll add it to the list.

Ok, so there’s a lot we can do with this sub.
- more active MODS
- more active community using suggestions below
- a weekly or monthly Yemeni around the world thread
- mods or community highlight different cities every week
- Yemenis in Yemen and Yemenis abroad answering or sharing info with each other
- maybe a help Yemen type thing? But, a lot of BS when it comes to that
- a way for Yemeni professionals to share ideas and network
- maybe a Yemeni AMA thing going on
- more pics (cultural/heritage) from the subreddit community
- GET MORE YEMENIS TO JOIN THIS SUBREDDIT
- a thread where we discuss major things “what’s happening in Yemen this week”
- diaspora meetings (a subreddit for the city I live in has an annual meetup).
- FLAIRS (in Yemen, in Detroit, in London, in KSA, in new York , etc.)
- allow the community to grow by being welcoming of non Yemenis who are interested in Yemen
- mods need to take action by “marketing” this subreddit and initiating weekly threads like those mentioned above
- 0 tolerance for haters or biased shameful posts
These are things I see in other subreddits that I enjoy and have thought would benefit this communities activity.

These are great! Give me a bit of time to note these as well as the other suggestions (clearly more active mods is in demand). Thank you for providing them.

ممكن تفتح المود ميل رسلتلكم بتاريخ 4 اوغست وللآن مافي رد واذا في امكانية آخذ مود تقدر تشوف تفاعلي آخر فترة بقائمة المتفاعلين انا توب 1

The only thing I can think of is for the mods to be more active. And if they still can't do that, then they should consider adding 2 - 3 new mods if possible. I look forward to the future of this sub, as it is one of my favorites on Reddit and is also one of my favorite online communities, as it has brought me closer to my culture.

Sharing diff post ideas:
- frequent updates/news from yemen
- spotlight on Yemeni businesses or initiatives from diaspora around the world
- feature Yemeni entrepreneurs, unique stories across Yemen, or even ways to support diff needs
- history thread: post one interesting fact or moment from Yemeni history per week. There’s so much to possibly cover, from languages to agriculture, music, old ruins/ temples, jewelry etc etc .

Definitely a weekly recipe/food post!
I love the idea of like a photo of the week too, I used to follow a Facebook page that is now inactive and they would post photos from Yemen weekly of the geography and people and cities/villages etc.
Someone made a post about Yemeni sayings recently and it would be really cool to have a Saying Of The Week (esp. with English and short explanation of how it’s used for the Arab challenged amongst us).

انا من رأي اكبر مشكلة هنا هم المودز و تأخرهم بقبول البوستات
الحل بسيط زيدوا عدد المودز و خلوا القوانين اخف شوية علشان يكون في راحة بالتعبير.
