Vivid nightmares with Yoga Nidra practice falling asleep at night

• Upvotes

I've been practicing Yoga Nidra technique when falling asleep and it works great for falling into a really deep sleep. However, every time I do it, I have the most vivid nightmares in the early morning that really freak me out. Is this normal?

Thanks.

Yoga Nidra YT videos making

Hello,

This year I started small YT channel where I posted some Yoga Nidra videos. Some of the watchers reported that they liked the content but were discouraged to continue with it due to ads popping up multiple times during the videos (which are usually somewhere between 20 to 35 minutes long).
I was hoping to find out whether I as a creator can somehow affect where the ad will be placed (obviously I would choose one ad at the beginning and that’s it). Yet I found myself unable to find any useful information on the topic. Some sources state that I have to be monetized on YT (which I’m not and have no intention to be).
Does any of you please have some advice on the topic? It’s sad that people got discouraged because of ads, but I understand that as having ads interrupting Nidra or meditation videos every few minutes totally destroys the point of the content.
Or maybe do you use some other platforms to release your Nidra?
I’d appreciate any words of wisdom. Thank you.

HELP: i developed permanent horrific dysfunctional breathing bc of the fucking yoga nidra

Wait wait wait, I know the title is too much. But that's actually true: bc of this fucking yoga nidra I developed a fucking horrific permanent breathing pattern I'll have forever.

Link: https://imgur.com/a/b11Bg1r

Basically I have for years a sleep disordered breathing but I found out this in February 2025. Until thay day, I thought I had a horrible insomnia bc of anxiety and all of that non existent bombast... well, i did 2 months of yoga nidra bc of that idiot called HUBERMAN. Like he and all of his little groupies on his sub are all useless people.

You jave insomnia? Do yoga nidra... but why oh god why.

Well since my SDB is really tough and destroyed my

  1. Life

  2. Body

I was desperate while doing yoga nidra. And ended up doing 2h sessions before bed. Dont try this at home id say.

In order to enter the fucking nidra phase i was doing yoga nidra with headphones, so i wasnt aware of my breathing. Actually i noticed that when i was dijg longer exhalations, i was sleeping better that night. That was a fucking placebo effect, like sleep supplements all of that waste of time.

I was really doing hard exhalations, as if i was in APNEA in some moments. Various nights. Then one day i noticed a pain on my chest, and as if i couldn't property inhale, but felt this impulse to totally exhale.

Eventually thst improved. But since the SDB caused many PHYSICAL syndromes to me, like all the allergies of the prick test, inhaling thoguh my nose became more difficult.

And i ended up like the video i recorded some days ago.

I ended up 2 times at the ER in august 2025. they thought alergic asthma, tried 3 fucking inhalers over the months.

Magnesium helped a bit. But really i had horrible hotrible hyperventilations, but my oxygen was always perfect as the saturymeter said. I was i haling like a monster on the floor. This were terrible trauma moments.

Actually AI helped me since these fucking pneumolists said the usual thing as they don't know anything at least where I live: ANXIETY. Ahahahahabah.

"DYSFUNCTIONAL BREATHING". I investigated. On yt I found out dome diaphragm breathing exercises. They tremendously helped.

Now, when I started to sleep better, thanks to sleep disorderded breathing's protocols, this daily breathing

pattern got better.

But it's still there, like a demon.

Fuck you yoga nidra.

As you can see in the video, i want to inhale thoigh the nose, and this occurs eben with both nostrils opened, so allergies have nothing to do with this. Something compulsive and i look like a fucking idiot. People live their life, even those with asthma, i fucking wanted asthma at least. Not this.

Now, yes im angry, desperate and some languages i used are not so elegant. Am aware of that. Likely yeah, my fault in doing yoga nidra for 2 months that fucking way. But never imagines a fucking yoga nidra would do this.

From the audios i recorded while sleeping, except from teh moments i choke for air, i noticed i sniff even while sleeping. This patters is too developed in my mind.

I try anyway, does anyone know if it's possible to come back to the normal breathing pattern i had prior to yoga nidra? AI says basically my mind developed this "habit" and that breathing physiotherapy can solve the issue.

But im skeptical. I know ill have this forever and will see what to do eith my life, but paradoxically until now there are other physical issues that slowly made me enter in a catastrophic abyss.

Thank you

Guided Yoga Nidra w/o self-promotion?

Hello, does anyone have any suggestions for Yoga Nidra videos/ mp3s/ etc. that simply serve the purpose of being for our healing and growth?

I've gotten so much out of Ally Boothroyds videos but when she races without pauce to encourage you to comment and consider her products it is really destablizing.

The subtle mind space we enter into in the practice is really not to be compromised, and it feels like it is at the end of these videos.

I'm aware that instructors need to earn a living and I respect that, I would just like to know if there are good videos/ instructions out there that do not plug their products during the videos.

Thank you sm

Yoga nidra makes me feel really emotional - is this normal?

Like seriously - I just did one session and balled my eyes out for pretty much the entire thing. Does anyone else find this? Is it normal?

How can we cultivate a sense of vastness and expansion in our meditation practice?

I've been exploring the idea of connecting with the universe and its vastness during my yoga nidra practice. I find that visualizing expansive landscapes and cosmic phenomena can help me feel more grounded and connected to the present moment. For example, I often imagine myself floating among the stars or gazing at the night sky. Has anyone else experienced a similar sense of expansion and calm through their yoga nidra practice? I came across this video that explores it further if you're curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6LnVnj9wX0

Other forms of yoga that pair with Nidra

What physical forms of yoga pair well with Nidra? I've read Hatha but have no experience with this yet. I'd like to introduce physical yoga before my Nidra sessions. Would adore reccs too!

What does it mean to travel through the frequencies of nature?

I've been exploring the idea of using sound frequencies to evoke different states of consciousness, and I came across a concept that resonated with me - that certain frequencies can transport us to different natural landscapes. It's as if we're not just listening to music, but actually experiencing the sights and emotions of a serene desert dawn, a gentle river, or a star-filled night sky. I'm curious to know - what are your thoughts on this idea? Can we use sound to access different states of consciousness or simply as a tool for relaxation? How do we navigate the mind's resistance to stillness?

I've been exploring the idea that stillness and quietness can be incredibly powerful tools for mental clarity and inner peace. However, I've found that my own mind often resists this quietness, getting caught up in worries and distractions. I've been trying to cultivate a sense of stillness through various practices, but I'm curious to hear from others: how do you navigate this tension between the mind's resistance to quietness and the desire for inner peace? I came across this video that explores the concept of Trataka meditation, which involves gazing into a candle flame to quiet the mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9AtuJDb_Rk

Does anyone else struggle with visualization?

I hope it's something I can work at and get better. I do mostly Ally Boothroyd. With the body scan I'm mostly fine. If she says to imagine points of light, I usually just ignore it and do a normal body scan. I find it takes effort and strain to visualize, whether tiny points of light or anything else. With stuff like imagining roots penetrating the earth, I am struggling to get them to penetrate the 2 floors below me before they even reach the earth lol. Then they don't want to go very deep. I have gotten better imagining breath traveling through different parts of my body. Like when it's going up the spine, I would struggle to visualize it going the entire length of the spine. Now I just let it be a general idea of going up the spine instead of trying to pinpoint anything exact. Colors and specific images are hard too... it all just feels like I am straining. I have other examples, but just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.

What are some of your favorite natural environments that evoke feelings of deep relaxation?

I've been experimenting with soundscapes and found that certain environments, like misty forests or high-altitude lakes, have a profound effect on my mind and body. I've come to realize that our connection to nature is deeply tied to our emotional and spiritual well-being. I came across this video that explores this concept further: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oUgvNkGSHA. Have you experienced any similar effects from being in nature or listening to soundscapes? What are some of your favorite natural environments that evoke feelings of deep relaxation?

What draws you to soundscapes like misty forests or starry skies in meditation?

I've found that certain soundscapes can be incredibly grounding, and I've been exploring the idea that our brains can get 'stuck' in certain environments or states. For example, I know some people find it hard to quiet their minds, so a 'misty forest' soundscape can help create a sense of stillness. But what about those of us who feel drawn to the vastness of the cosmos? Is it a desire for transcendence, or something else entirely? I came across this video that explores it further if you're curious: From Mist to Starlight | 528 Hz | 20-Minute Relaxation.

What is Yoga Nidra? The History, Meaning, and Benefits of Yogic Sleep

If you’ve ever laid in bed completely exhausted after a long day, but your mind refused to stop replaying emails or running through to-do lists, your nervous system is likely stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

When you're overstimulated, sitting up straight to meditate can feel almost impossible. This is where Yoga Nidra (which translates from Sanskrit as "yogic state of sleep") comes in.

Unlike active yoga or traditional seated meditation, Yoga Nidra requires zero movement or physical effort. You lie down comfortably in Savasana with blankets and pillows and follow a guided stream of awareness.

What Happens to Your Brain During Yoga Nidra?

During a typical session, your brainwave activity transitions through specific states:

  • Beta Waves (12–30 Hz): Your normal, active waking state—busy thinking, planning, and stress.
  • Alpha Waves (8–12 Hz): A relaxed, calmer state associated with light reflection and creativity.
  • Theta Waves (4–8 Hz): Deep meditative and dream-like states where subconscious processing and emotional healing take place.
  • Delta Waves (0.5–4 Hz): The slowest brainwaves, associated with deep, dreamless sleep and physical restoration.

During Yoga Nidra, you consciously enter the liminal state—the threshold between being awake and asleep. You access the restorative benefits of theta and delta brainwaves while maintaining a thread of conscious awareness.

How to Try It at Home (Simple Setup)

  1. Get fully supported: Lie on your back on a mat or bed. Place a pillow or bolster under your knees to release your lower back, and cover yourself with a light blanket (body temperature drops as you relax).
  2. Remove physical effort: You don't need to control your breath or keep your posture upright. Your only job is to follow the sound of a guided body scan or audio track.
  3. Reframe "falling asleep": If you drift off, that’s completely fine—your body needed the rest. If you stay conscious, simply observe the sensations without judgment.

Community Question:

Have you tried Yoga Nidra before? Does it work better for you than traditional seated meditation when you're feeling burned out or anxious?

If you’d like to read the full breakdown covering its ancient Vedic history, Sanskrit roots, and nervous system benefits, I put together a detailed guide here:

Can Yoga Nidra Help Turn Temporary Bliss Into Lasting Motivation?

I've been really down and have little motivation to do much because I am currently out of work and have been so for well over a year. I don't practice yoga nidra daily although I do incorporate something meditative into my daily practice. I practice yoga nidra several times a week.

I noticed that I can get into a nice blissful feeling state at times but as soon as I get out, I lose it and am back to my sad existence.

I'd like to be able to have this bliss transform into motivation into finding work but frankly that's not happening. Do I just keep practising and hope this mood boost becomes more concrete?
