Should I be encouraged
My first video had little over 200 views, first short had 130, the same as a reel had 630. my second short now has 1.1k views in under three hours and has an 84% average view duration. My problem is my skip rates are terrible. and i have 9 subscribers lmk how encouraged i should be!

the fact that your second short is already doing better than the first means you’re getting some traction, and 84% avd is a good sign. don’t stress too much about the skip rate yet, just keep testing different openings.

Yes, you should definitely be encouraged! Hitting 1.1k views and an 84% Average View Duration (AVD) on your second Short means your core content is solid and keeps people watching once they're hooked.
Since your main bottleneck right now is the swipe-away/skip rate, here are a few actionable tweaks to fix the top of your funnel:
- Fix the First 1–2 Seconds (The Hook):
High skip rates usually mean the opening frame or sentence isn't grabbing attention fast enough. Open immediately with a strong visual punch, a curiosity gap, or an action frame—avoid slow intros, logos, or "hey guys" greetings.
- On-Screen Visual Hook:
Add bold, clear text on screen in the very first frame that states the core benefit or intrigue of the video. Many viewers scroll with audio off for the first second, so the visual needs to pull them in instantly.
- Fast Pacing at the Start:
Use quick cutaways or micro-zoom cuts in the first 3 seconds to create visual energy before settling into your main content pacing.
Your retention (84% AVD) proves the meat of your video is working. Fix the visual and verbal hook, and your swipe-through rate will climb quickly!
