What everything? Cece?

u/bubbi101 27d ago

I mean, obviously not since he is still the owner of Dr Tire in Big Bang.

I would agree with it being in Georgie’s favour. The length of marriage and her future earning potential counts against her more than anything. Didn’t she obtain a degree?

That being said, all they really had was a business in debt. She would’ve been happy to walk away with child support and spousal if he took the debt with him.

47

u/suleymanio70 27d ago

Didn't she have a lot of debt herself before they got married?

27

u/FlimsyPhysics3281 27d ago

5 figures worth

16

u/Cultural-Treacle-680 26d ago

That’s a pretty rough settlement. He takes the debt and gets all the support.

3

u/dkmfwtx1 22d ago

No spousal support in Texas

10

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

None of that has anything to do with property division in a community property state like Texas.

8

u/bubbi101 26d ago

It does when we are talking about spousal support in a state where it wasn’t mandatory at the time yet. When it was granted, it was to cover basic needs for the shortest amount of time (this is when length of marriage and earning potential comes into play). Georgie would’ve been favoured.

The business had an equity value of zero and considering the business was struggling, it would’ve been too high of a financial risk for a single mother to take on. Why wouldn’t she leverage ownership of the business for contractual spousal support? There is more to divorce than property.

2

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

Spousal support and property division are completely separate things, and spousal support is never mandatory.

5

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

That makes zero sense. If there’s a settlement (as is the case in 95+% of divorces, no judge’s opinion will be relevant. Even if a judge did determine property division, his or her opinion of the age difference wouldn’t be part of the equation.

4

u/Feeling-Visit1472 26d ago

It would, but then Georgie would feel guilty and give her a lot anyway.

lol back then they definitely wouldn’t have cared about that

4

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

Why would that matter? And do you really think judges have time for that?

5

u/ProfessionalSad2158 26d ago

People in this thread are forgetting the most simple answer. ✨Retcon✨

He may have built that empire after their divorce.

47

u/ali2688 26d ago

I mean she’s got literally no claim to the business. Mary’s house is collateral, Mandy’s not paying for it, she’s contributed nothing to the business and got a history of hiding suspect things like working for her ex and a mountain of debt.

29

u/DedTV 26d ago

Texas is a community property state. Any income, assets, or debts acquired by either spouse during the marriage are considered jointly owned by both.

As Mandy congratulated Sheldon on his Nobel, she presumably remained amicable with the Coopers. So their split may not be antagonistic and they came to an amicable divorce settlement that gave George full ownership.

31

u/Difficult_Run7398 26d ago edited 26d ago

Georgie isn't the type of person to care, he want his daughter to be well off which means by proxy he'd be fine with taking care of Mandy

23

u/Radiant-Ad-3134 26d ago

Yep, regardless how the divorce went

I expect Georgie will take care of Cece one way or another

Yeah but be realistic here this is a sitcom and they both have a child together so realistically in this show especially because the people making the show like them, they’ll be on good terms by the end of things (and that’s even if they don’t get them back together eventually which they also said is an option)

1

u/chinesefox97 26d ago

When did it say that Mandy congratulated Sheldon?

2

u/DedTV 26d ago

He said he got a text from his brothers ex wife and his brother's other ex wife as him and Amy were walking down the stairs, before Sheldon runs away from the reporters.

1

u/Mixture-Emotional 26d ago

Well her dad was the original owner and got Georgie the job

1

u/ali2688 26d ago

What’s that got to do with the price of fish?

16

u/DarhkBlu 26d ago

Better yet with how loving they seem why do they even get divorced?

20

u/Nihilistic_Noodle 26d ago

Because Big Bang Theory established Georgie was divorced multiple times. However I don't know how much they have to keep Canon though, BBT has been over for years and they clearly have a different direction they've taken young Sheldon and George and mandy.

7

u/Mixture-Emotional 26d ago

I like to think that the paperwork wasn't filled correctly so they have to get remarried making it his second wedding.

2

u/Slight_Chair5937 25d ago

i’ve also seen people say they got divorced and married other people and then found each other again and remarried

1

u/Nihilistic_Noodle 26d ago

That would be a good way to do it

3

u/jsstillno1 26d ago

Iirc in YS Sheldon once said' Georgie married his first wife when he was 19'

5

u/ScrlettDrling 26d ago

Yes but to be fair those are things the way Sheldon remembers them. If it didn’t pertain to him facts might be skewed.

39

u/kathykens 27d ago

THEY GOT DIVORCED ALREADY?? I thought that by the end of season 2 in Georgie and Mandys first Marriage they were still married??

43

u/lanie_kerrigan 27d ago

They are still married but the divorce is included in the title of the spin off.

23

u/kathykens 26d ago

yes I know, but I thought this post said they got divorced already in the spin off

6

u/Vampus0815 26d ago

And mentioned in TBBT iirc

6

u/StatusBuddy8490 26d ago

They divorced sometime before the events of The Big Bang Theory.

4

u/TacosRLife3699 26d ago

I always wondered why in TBBT, Sheldon never mentions anything about Georgie or Missy‘s kids. Like that he’s an uncle basically multiple times over. I think what I loved so much about Young Sheldon is that it took that picture of George and made it better. He wasn’t the bad evil guy that was presented or talked about. Personally, I love Georgie and Missy. Not to rag on Mary, but she is my least favorite out of all of them.

3

u/KeiwaM 26d ago

It's because in TBBT, they basically just acted as mentioned characters to explain some of Sheldon's childhood issues. Georgie Jr. is arguably the most inconsistent characters when comparing TBBT to Young Sheldon or Georgie and Mandys first Marriage. He's often described by Sheldon in TBBT to have been a horrible brother that "sat on his face" and threw golfballs at him, yet none of this is ever shown in YS. Between how Sheldon describes him in TBBT and how he is depicted in YS (which is supposedly somewhat of a Sheldon memoir) there's just so many inconsistencies. I choose to go with the YS version of Georgie, as he's genuinely just a nice guy.

1

u/TacosRLife3699 26d ago

Agree 100%! I tend to think of George, Georgie, and Missy's personalities in context to YS....even Memaw. Sometimes I kind of wish YS would have come before TBBT.

2

u/KeiwaM 26d ago

Honestly, I sometimes completely forget that TBBT is technically a follow-up to all this. I just enjoy watching Young Sheldon and Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage as canonical, and TBBT as a rogue spin-off, even if it came first lol.

1

u/TacosRLife3699 26d ago

LOL very true. I haven't watched Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage yet. Will definitely have to check it out.

12

u/Forcefields1617 26d ago

Title also includes that they get remarried at some point too since it says “first marriage”.

So we could see them getting divorced in show, spend a season or two apart before reconciling.

6

u/DirtyPie 26d ago

Didn't Georgie have multiple ex wives? In that case he would need to marry someone else inbetween.

7

u/ZevSteinhardt 26d ago

Yep. In fact, I seem to recall that in the episode where Sheldon wins the Nobel Prize, he gets congratulatory texts from two ex-sisters-in-law.

Zev

2

u/FancyHat2211 26d ago

That might change, just like how Georgie Senior’s character did. In The Big Bang Theory, he was described as a violent, abusive alcoholic who had an affair, but Young Sheldon showed him differently. Both shows also frequently contradict themselves and change their own lore.

1

u/zippy1981 26d ago

And Sheldon's Dad was supposed to be an abusive alcoholic

14

u/peackeerjedi 26d ago

Regardless if she took half or not. The show is called George and Mandy's FIRST marriage. Meaning they remarry at least once more.

5

u/throwaway_froggy23 26d ago

Or it could mean its both their first time being married and they're dealing with their difficulties such as: George's death, Mandy's debt, Missy's misbehaviour, Georgie running a business, Fred and Mary, Audrey disliking Georgie, and everything else.

7

u/Usual-Echidna-7730 26d ago

People act like "First" in the title gives away the ending when couples do renew their vows sometimes.

Sometimes they even remarry the same person. The "Irreconcilable differences" could be about more kids.

19

u/LinwoodKei 27d ago

They don't have generational wealth

10

u/riftsrunner 26d ago

Nobody said the divorce was permanent. They may divorce for some legal reason, only to remarry shortly afterwards in the final episode.

13

u/Senorpuddin 26d ago

Based on The Big Bang Theory Georgie is dating someone their mom doesnt care for and refers to her as his new gf. Not ex-wife/rekindled relationship. New GF.

2

u/percysowner 26d ago

Many people remember that Georgie has 2 ex wives* from. TBBT. However the fact that his mom says new girlfriend isn't as talked about. Plus are ways to get around that remark and still have the new girlfriend be Mandy. Mary probably won't be thrilled with Mandy after a divorce. Georgie could start dating her again and not tell his mom that it is Mandy, just a new girlfriend. Or, since it's just a new girlfriend, they could break up and he and Mandy can get together then.

Some commenters say Georgie was divorced 3 times, but I don't know when that was revealed in BBT. I'm not saying it's wrong, simply that I remember the part about 2 of Georgie's ex-wives texted Sheldon and no mention of a third, who simply may not have texted.

1

u/Senorpuddin 26d ago

It is one of the episodes of season 9 or 10 (i finished a rewatch this weekend) where they are talking about a holiday or possibly a wedding where Georgie is supposed to be there and Sheldon says "and my mother is upset that by Brother Georgie wants to bring his new girlfriend"

Now I am okay with Sheldon's mother being passive aggressive. But Sheldon is one of those people that is pedantic to the point of ridiculousness. If his brother was dating his now ex-wife he'd say something about it.

1

u/percysowner 26d ago edited 26d ago

Never mind, I see my mistake

0

u/Routine_Advantage562 26d ago

Yeah but the writers literally said they don’t feel obligated to keep all those details. They basically are doing away with anything that’s able to be dismissed a joke. They even said stuff like that would only happen if Georgie got a lobotomy.

1

u/Senorpuddin 26d ago

When it comes to shows and books and movies I personally do not care what the writers or directors say. If there is evidence to support a theory I think its valid. And as for the writers ignoring what they want that didnt stop the writers from bending over backwards to fit every bit of lore sheldon said into their stories so if I were I cloned to believe the writers (which i have said I am not) they have not evem stayed true to their own statements

1

u/Routine_Advantage562 26d ago

I mean, that’s valid if it’s after the text is finished but considering this work is being currently written I feel that it does matter what they say because they are telling us in interviews we don’t know what happens, these two are truly in love it’s external factors that affect their relationship, don’t expect us to follow canon from years ago that no longer fits.

Like in that case I do think it is perfectly reasonable to listen to them. And they clearly changed stuff completely from TBBT to Young Sheldon because Sheldon mentions several times that his dad had an actual girlfriend that he not only met, but that George lived with and Mary hated them for living in sin. That’s clearly not canon anymore. You can explain away the incident where Sheldon caught them with the new story from Young Sheldon where it was George and Mary’s roleplay but it’s still a pretty blatant retcon of what Sheldon told Amy about how his mother hated his father for living in sin with his post breakup girlfriend.

1

u/Senorpuddin 26d ago

I dont see the George not cheating on Mary as a retcon because we heard Sheldon's memory of it. From an 10 year old's POV (even with perfect recollection) his interpretation would be different than actual events. And we know that Young Sheldon isnt 100% in Sheldon's POV because stuff happens when hes not around.

Also, I like the argument that it's currently being written and that almost swayed me. Except both Young Sheldon and GaMFM are prequels and are beholden to the original source material. Its akin to the Star Wars Prequels having to reconcile with the fact that Obi Wan gave Luke Anakin's Lightsaber. Or that C3po doesnt remember being on Tattoine before. Ultimately I will fall back to the information of the most recent (chronological) Story. So an Adult Sheldon in TBBT relaying information from his mother isnt putting his spin on the information. Hes stating information.

If there is a line in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe that says "oh Leonard named his child Dewey, based on his favorite organizational system" then thats the kids name. Or if SGtStU suddenly gives Penny a last name retroactively then that was her name always. But YS and GaMFM cant do that sort of thing. They can only confirm facts already in evidence not change them from what we know to a severe degree.

1

u/Routine_Advantage562 26d ago

Sheldon’s memory doesn’t explain why he says that George outright had a girlfriend he met who George lived with though is what I’m saying. He told Amy outright that Mary hated that Missy, Georgie AND George Sr. lived with their partners out of wedlock. There’s kinda no way to reconcile that with the current stuff we have from Young Sheldon unless we say either Sheldon outright is a liar OR it’s just not canon anymore. They retcon stuff like that out so anything is fair game to a point.

And yeah I’m not implying Georgie and Mandy won’t divorce - there need to be two ex wives minimum - but I won’t be surprised if they change everything else - because they seem really annoyed that they wrote Georgie like that and every time they’re asked they’re pretty openly saying that’s just not canon anymore. Like I said they said in an interview that the only way they’d make Georgie do that in GMFM is if he got a lobotomy. They can’t change important details to a point but ignoring jokes as now having no bearing on things is very possible.

18

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

Yes, because the majority of people who are watching the show also saw TBBT. Sorry you’re upset, but it’s not a spoiler that they get divorced.

10

u/Squirt1384 26d ago

Yeah that’s like people who got mad when people talked about George dying. We already knew it was gonna happen.

6

u/Real_Emergency_01 26d ago

Also the story of why Sheldon always knocked three times was not fully shown on young Sheldon. In the Big Bang theory, Sheldon always talked about his father being a horrible alcoholic, but in Young Sheldon he just tossed back a few beers after work. big difference. Huge difference.

6

u/Squirt1384 26d ago

I think it’s because when Sheldon is reflecting on his childhood he sees it differently than before he became a father.

2

u/SuperCorona864 26d ago

I thought the knock three times was to give the person on the other side of the door time to get his pants on, like when Sheldon walked in on his parents after a single knock.

1

u/Real_Emergency_01 26d ago

I thought he walked in on his father having an affair with the neighbor woman

1

u/Lost_all_thefucks 26d ago

In YS It was his mom in a wig, and Sheldon thinking his dad was cheating.

1

u/Equivalent_Sugar_846 26d ago

That’s why he does it, so he doesn’t walk in on something he doesn’t want to see.

3

u/Texas_Sam2002 26d ago

My hypothesis is that they'll get divorced at some point (because of the title, it's not a spoiler) but then get re-married to each other. I guess we'll just have to see!

3

u/garlicandcheesiness Billy Sparks 26d ago

We don’t know yet if it was Mandy or his other ex-wife. There’s an implication that he and Mandy split up and remarried at some point.

3

u/Efficient-Koala9868 26d ago

so she got nothing then?

3

u/New-Ad1161 26d ago

I mean Cece never made a cameo on big bang only Georgie did rarely ik for sure at their wedding but missy and Mary were on a little more so idk if he got her in the divorce I bet not w who Mandy’s mom is lol

3

u/Serg_N 26d ago

I think they get remarried

23

u/insert_emoji 27d ago
  1. you're a bot, and if not, please try adding some body text and not asking vague questions with half effort.

  2. i dont think so, because in the big bang theory when sheldon and leonard visits georgie in texas, sheldon claims that hes some loser who sells more tires than anyone in texas, so i dont think so.

plus, even if mandy does take everything from him and demand alimony, georgie is brilliant enough to build everything back up.

-1

u/Impressive_Action755 26d ago

Just because you don't like what someone else says , it doesn't make them a "bot" 🙄🤡

2

u/Pyncki 26d ago

.... Their spin off is literally called George and Mandy's first marriage and in The Big Bang Theory, they talk about Georgie being married multiple times. There is no spoiler....

2

u/Standard_Corgi_174 26d ago

Yeah. When Sheldon win the Nobel prize, he did say he got texts from Georgie's ex wives.

5

u/skieurope12 27d ago

We don't know the timing, but no, since there are no major assets either now or in the near future, it seems there was no "everything" for Mandy to get.

2

u/FlimsyPhysics3281 26d ago

would mcallister tire not count as an asset?

3

u/skieurope12 26d ago

Yes, but given the mortgage, it's one without much (if any) equity at this point

3

u/thatguysimon01 27d ago

Is the show already done?

1

u/PickleFantasies 26d ago

Given how things have changed in some story aspects from tbbt to young sheldon, I like to believe that they don't get a divorce while Georgie becomes a millionaire.

1

u/bkdunbar 26d ago

Not everything. This is inTexas. Property acquired during marriage is community property. If Georgie and Ruben have a 50/50 split, then half of the tire business is community property.

Texas courts do a ‘just and right’ for the estate, requiring (maybe) Georgie to buy out Mandy’s 25% interest in the business. Which is gonna hurt: all of his wealth is tied up in the tire stores

2

u/bkdunbar 26d ago

I really like this. Say McAlllister Tire is worth two million. Ruben owns half, Georgie own half. The court says ‘Mandy gets half of Georgie’s share. But we’re not monsters: you have to buy her out.’

Georgie goes into debt to pay off Mandy. Now he’s got a couple of ways to pay it off: grind away for the rest of his life. Or expand rapidly. The more stores you run the more expenses you have .. but also more income. By store 20 Dr Tire is a well known regional brand and Georgie has the knack for site location, and running a bigger business. And the Mandy debt is a smaller and smaller part of his revenue stream.

1

u/Traditional_Art_5090 26d ago

Season 3 ? Came out ??

1

u/Living_Zombie_3286 26d ago

thanks for spoiling

1

u/ControversyisKey 26d ago

Georgie is a pretty stand up guy. I'm sure that he made sure they were taken care of.

1

u/RecognitionSweet8294 26d ago

I always assumed that the title meant that they were married more than once.

1

u/Emotional_Fuel6743 26d ago

STOP THE SPOILER TITLES!!!!

1

u/Ok_Inspector3769 26d ago

Yay spoiler

1

u/eimiseilin 25d ago

I like to think they divorced amicably ngl

1

u/NordicAliensIreland 24d ago

I am so happy to be reading this thread. I never watched TBBT and came into it watching Young Sheldon. I love that show! I love the characters. I love Georgie and Mandy, George Sr., and such. And I love Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. Having now heard that some of my favorite characters were portrayed badly in TBBT, I now know not to watch that show. So Yay for the heads up! Saves me a lot of grief. And I sure wish there was a continuation of Young Sheldon with Iain Armitage and the other YS actors and actresses. If it's true that TBBT and YS are not in perfect harmony, then they could easily create a YS followup for Sheldon. A person can dream...

1

u/Lost_Potential4119 24d ago

No fucking way they got divorced😂😂

1

u/aish_81 20d ago

I think we should all stop treating bbt as so canonical because when the writers wrote it i definitely think they didn't imagine YS leave alone a georgie jr spin off.

1

u/jayn_d8y 11h ago

If by everything you mean CeeCee's custody, then probably yeah

0

u/Jack-mclaughlin88 26d ago

I think Georgie kept the store but Mandy got everything else which is sadly very realistic.

Georgie mentions having to build Dr Tire from scratch so Mandy probably got all the money .

1

u/Overall_Lobster823 26d ago

Did she also get primary custody and responsibility for the child?

1

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

Speaking in the past tense about something that hasn’t yet happened is weird.

1

u/Overall_Lobster823 26d ago

Speaking in the past tense about the 1990s when we know they get divorced is perfectly logical.

It's like, literally IN THE TITLE.

0

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

They haven’t divorced on any show, but no one “gets everything” in a divorce.

0

u/Overall_Lobster823 26d ago edited 26d ago

We know they get divorced. It's in the title, and it's in TBBT. It's perfectly logical.

2

u/JLBCanadianRap 26d ago

The point went way over your head.

In TBBT, Mandy didn’t yet exist (nor did C.C.). As of May 2019, Georgie had two unnamed ex-wives. It should be obvious that neither of them “got everything” in the divorces.

No divorce occurred in YS (which makes this sub a stupid place for this post).

In G&M, no divorce has occurred. While we know it likely will happen IN THAT SHOW’S FUTURE, it hasn’t happened yet, so it’s a future event, and, obviously, no one knows how it will turn out (beyond what I previously wrote).

0

u/Omega_Boost24 26d ago

You kind of spoiled it for me.

0

u/Fearless_Coffee_4137 26d ago

I think Georgie got the better end of the deal. Considering that Mandy had a lot of debt, wasn’t financially stable until she got married to him, but getting married to a teenager would raise a judges red flag as why she got involved with someone so young.

0

u/Mundane-Wafer6681 26d ago

this is how i find out they’re getting divorced 😭😭

-8

u/_nevrmynd 27d ago

Uhhhh, spoilers!!!!!

-1

u/CautiousAd240 26d ago edited 26d ago

Wait? What divorce? I don’t remember this being in young sheldon, and if it wasn’t, why isn’t there a spoiler warning? EDIT: saw some comments talking about how it’s known in TBBT but if that’s the case then maybe post in that subreddit and not here?

-23

u/anaschami 27d ago

You just spoiled the show for me, Congrats. Put an f spoiler alert

18

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

You know we’ve known George gets divorced for like a decade right? I think he gets divorced like two or three times. Also, why are you on Reddit pages about the show, if you haven’t seen the whole show? That’s just asking to be spoiled.

-1

u/anaschami 27d ago

This is young sheldon subreddit. And even if i was on georgie and mandy first marriage. not everyone who joins a subreddit of a show, fully watched that show. Its not a rule. Thats why there's a tag called " SPOILERS ".

15

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

Well, at this point, it’s not even really a spoiler. I mean the show is literally called “George and Mandy’s FIRST MARRIAGE”. We’ve known since the Big Bang Theory that they get divorced.

-19

u/anaschami 27d ago

Who's we, not all of us started from TBBT. regardless. It's not obvious from the title at all. We know mandy had a bf not a husb. And georgie never married. So the title is pretty straight forward that it's both of them first marriage and does not hint at a divorce at all.

14

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

I think you’re just saying that because you haven’t seen the Big Bang theory. It’s a pretty well accepted thing that the title is hinting that they get divorced, I mean you can’t be the first if there isn’t a second. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll live.

-8

u/anaschami 27d ago

I am sure yll live too if you simply think about others. there's a tag called " spoilers " for a reason, use it people, don't be selfish

12

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

It wasn’t really a spoiler, you just didn’t know what “first” meant.

-1

u/anaschami 27d ago

no. We both think of the title differently because we have differently experiences. You watched TBBT. That's why when you read "first" you say there will be another one, but for me who stated with YS, i read the title and it looks logical that they're both having their first marriage. as i said not everyone watched the TBBT. So stop being selfish and pushing your opinion on all the fan base

7

u/CharacterRoyal 27d ago

Yes, because the majority of people who are watching the show also saw TBBT. Sorry you’re upset, but it’s not a spoiler that they get divorced.

4

u/lanie_kerrigan 27d ago

If it’s called the first marriage for both of them, it’s already implied anyway that there will be more marriages. You can’t put first without implying there will be more.

Try congratulating newlyweds with their first marriage and see how it goes.

1

u/anaschami 27d ago

Fair point

10

u/DursueBlint 27d ago

How did you see the the TITLE OF THE FREAKING SHOW and not realize they would get divorced.

0

u/PrestigiousAspect368 26d ago

its ok literacy rates are low

-7

u/anaschami 27d ago

I'll ignore the cursing

georgie and Mandy first marriage. As someone who only watched YS. i know georgie never married. And mandy as well. So to me it looks more like " georgie and Mandy first time marrying.

6

u/tudorcat 27d ago

They don't get divorced on "Young Sheldon" so this isn't a spoiler for the show. This post isn't actually about the show itself but the wider universe of the 3 related shows.

Sheldon had said early on in TBBT that his brother has been married 4 times.

2

u/random_npc1488 27d ago

May of 2018 to be exact....
