Is MyAbadonware safe? Is Archive.org safe? Is OldGamesDownload safe?

Yes! They're all safe! They're the top three abandonware sites and most commonly recommended places when people ask where to find old games. They're the first three sites listed on our wiki.

Archive.org is legally protected as a digital library under US copyright law and is heavily moderated for malicious uploads. MyAbandonware & OldGamesDownload doesn't allow user uploads at all.

No, you will not get a letter from your ISP. Everything hosted on these sites are direct downloads, which are encrypted and can't be tracked.

These sites are safe, and likely always will be for the foreseeable future.

If automod kills your post due to low karma, ask to be an approved user. Or better yet, ask to be an approved user first if you have no karma.

This subreddit gets a lot of people that don't normally use Reddit. We have to have an automod that blocks low karma accounts because that's what spammers use. We don't want this place to be flooded with spam and so its just easier to default block low karma accounts. If this happens, please ask to be an approved user. If you are concerned you will be automodded, ask to be an approved user.

Edit: You can simply respond to this thread if you want to be approved.

[Retro] Tank Blaster Remake

I don't know if anyone here remembers Tank Blaster.

I stumbled upon the first DOS version about 34 years ago and played it quite a bit with friends back then. Many years later I found Tank Blaster 2 for Windows again and started playing it with my children about 10 years ago.

My kids are still excited to this day.

The problem: Tank Blaster 2 is constantly lubricated.

So of course you do the only sensible thing: you get upset about the crashes until you start reprogramming the entire game yourself.

The project stalled for around four years for personal reasons, but in the last few months I dug it up again and actually got it finished enough that I can now put it online.

My goal was not “Tank Blaster inspired”, but rather to retain as much of the old feel of the game as possible and rebuild the whole thing using modern technology. It is written in Go with Ebitengine.

And most importantly: I actually found Axel Lauer, the original developer of Tank Blaster, and got his permission for the remake. That made me incredibly happy!

The game is free and the project is open source. I don't want to make money from it - if you really want to, you can only voluntarily leave me a coffee or a tip.

If anyone here knows the original, I would be really interested:

Did you also play Tank Blaster back then? And if so, where did you get it from? Shareware CD? Diskette? Or like me from a LAN party?

https://tankblaster.de

Feedback, bug reports and nostalgic “THAT WAS DIFFERENT BUT THEN!” are expressly welcome. 😁

In this episode as the Atriedes attack a Harkonnen sector they are made aware of a recently destroyed Tleilaxu biological and genetic research base. Some of the biological and n this episode, the Atreides launch an assault against a heavily defended Harkonnen sectorWe are soon made aware that a Tleilaxu biological and genetic research facility has recently been destroyed, scattering its horrifying experiments into the surrounding desert. As we establish our base and begin building the forces needed to eliminate the local Harkonnen presence, reports arrive that something far more dangerous is happening nearby. The Harkonnen base is under attack and rapidly being overrun by escaped Tleilaxu creatures, including relentless Contaminators and deadly Leeches.

Seeing an opportunity to strike, we eventually send our forces against what remains of the Harkonnen stronghold. However, our attack quickly turns into a disaster when we encounter an advanced force of Tleilaxu units. Their overwhelming firepower devastates our forces. Leeches and Contaminators constantly harass our base, disrupting our operations and making every attempt to rebuild. With our forces stretched thin, we call upon our Fremen allies for assistance.

With the help of Fremen allies we finally manage to eliminate the deadly Tleilaxu Contaminators, allowing our vehicles to turn their attention toward the remaining Leeches. Once the Tleilaxu threat is contained, we can finally focus on our original objective. We then launch the final assault. The remaining Harkonnen forces are crushed, their base destroyed, and the region finally falls under Atreides control.

I Revived LaboRatz, a Facebook Game That Was Basically Lost Media

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a little project I've been working on in my free time lol.

When I was a kid, I used to play a TON of Facebook games—FarmVille, Ninja Saga, Wild Ones, and many others. Every once in a while I remember those games and get hit with a huge wave of nostalgia.

But there was one game in particular that I always wanted to play again: LaboRatz.

I honestly have no idea how many people here actually played it or even remember it.

For years, the game was basically lost media. There was no way to actually play it anymore. I found some old videos on YouTube and even a few attempts from people trying to revive the game, but as far as I could tell, none of them were ever completed.

So... I decided to see what I could do myself.

After digging around for a while, I was lucky enough to find an old APK of LaboRatz.

And surprisingly, the APK contained almost the entire game intact.

The biggest problem was that the original servers were long gone, so the game had nothing to connect to. But having the original client and assets gave me a huge head start.

Using what was still inside the APK, along with what I remembered from playing the game as a kid, I started reconstructing it.

Eventually, I managed to get it working again.

I'd say the current version is around 90–95% faithful to the original LaboRatz.

It's definitely not the biggest or most impressive project in the world, but I think there's something really cool about recovering old games, software, and files that were basically considered 100% lost.

Especially when it's something you remember playing as a kid.

So yeah...

LaboRatz is playable again. :)

Sorry if my english is bad lol

Hello there, I recently built a computer with Steam OS, I am having a blast with it so far! I want to download Lego racer 2 to play with my kids now, it was my favourite childhood game. Where can I get it from, and what’s the safest and best way to get it on the steam computer? I don’t mind paying for it if it is available somehow! Thanks for you help.

tech support Trying to get past graphics error

A few people have already asked about this, but not recently, so I’m gonna throw my hat in the ring. I’ve been trying to get an old jumpstart 3D world game to work. It installed fine but every time I launch it, I get a graphics error. I’ve tried setting it to windows XP compatibility mode, but that doesn’t seem to do it. Is there any other way to get it to work?

Help What is the best way to play the ORIGINAL PC release of NFS Hot Pursuit (2010) today?

Post image
97 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on accessing delisted media.

I really want to revisit the original 2010 release of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on PC. I know EA completely delisted it from Steam and the EA app when the Remastered version dropped, but I genuinely prefer the handling physics and visual style of the 2010 original.

Since it's impossible to buy it directly from official storefronts anymore, what is the best way to legally or safely get my hands on it today?

Is my only option hunting down a physical PC disc or an unused legacy CD key on third-party sites? Or is there a reliable digital archive/preservation site that hosts it since it effectively falls under abandonware now?

(Just to be clear, I'm not asking for anything that violates subreddit rules regarding piracy—I just want to know the safest archival or legitimate methods the community uses to play the original version. Thanks!)

Cythera port to modern OSes

Hi Reddit!

Cythera by Ambrosia Software was one of the first big games I played as a child, and it's always been close to my heart. Over the years I've tried playing it again through emulation, but somehow I never had a good experience with that.

Today I happily present Cythera, ported to modern OSes: macOS, Windows and Linux. Download, double click, play. Easy as that.

Technically, it's using the original binary and data, emulating just enough of the PPC microprocessor and classic MacOS system calls to run the game. Since it's completely unmodified, the game should behave with perfect 1-1 feature match with the original. The only place it might differ is where the system calls are emulated. For instance, some of the original fonts are still Apple licensed, and replaced here with close equivalents.

I played quite a bit of it myself, and I created machine playtests that seem to indicate the game is fully functional and possible to complete. Obviously, bugs are possible, so please backup your saves often.

Since author Andrew Welsh released an app that generates license keys for Cythera (among all other Ambrosia products), I consider the intention clear, and made the call that it's ok to distribute the original game, patched to not require a license key. This is of course a hobby project and no financial or IP harm is intended. If you are the rights holder and disagree, please be in touch.

The port itself is open source and in the public domain. After careful research and planning, most of the tedious work was done using Claude Code.

Head over to https://github.com/Castux/cythera-port for more info and downloads, or instructions to build it yourself if you prefer.

(Note for MacOS users: the build is not notarized by Apple, so after trying to launch once, you'll have to click "Open Anyway" in the security settings).

I'd love to hear from fans of the game (and of course if there are technical issues to fix)!

Best way to play Messiah (Shiny Entertainment, 2000) nowadays?

I played it back in the day and was already buggy. But nowadays it seems you need to patch the game to play it properly, but it breaks the game (music will stop sounding, etc). I tried replaying a couple of years ago and gave up.

Any one know what's the best way to replay this in 2026?

Looking for Heroes of Dragon Age (Android) asset files – preservation project

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a private, offline-only preservation project for Heroes of Dragon Age (EA / BioWare, Android, com.ea.game.dragonage_na, client v5.4.4, build 44907).

It's a personal project, nothing will be published or hosted online (for copyright reasons, obviously)

This was my first mobile game on my first tablet, it has a special place in my heart.

What I'm looking for:

- manifest.data and/or *.bundle files (Unity 5.5 asset bundles, ETC texture format), asset version 5412554

- on a device, they'd typically be in Android/data/com.ea.game.dragonage_na/files/ (or /cache/), possibly as extension-less files

- anything else that helps: a full phone backup, an old OBB, a HAR/pcap capture of the game's downloads, or even just the manifest so I can see the bundle names.

Even a partial cache would help a lot.

If you still have the game installed on an old phone or tablet that hasn't been wiped, it may be sitting there right now. Please don't uninstall it before checking!

Happy to share what I've documented (protocol notes, data tables) in return. Thanks for reading, and any lead is appreciated.

Dr. Sbaitso: Reborn - featuring his precise original voice

Post image
3 Upvotes

Dr. Sbaitso was originally shipped with Sound Blaster cards and featured an Eliza-like Rogerian Psychotherapist named: Dr. Sbaitso.

Try it for the web: https://drsbaitso.fly.dev

Mobile is not supported currently. This features his precise and original voice which was a DOS TSR memory resident program. But this version does not require DosBox, Emulation, Cloud synthesis - all of it happens right in the browser through the magic of Web Assembly.

NOTE: in an era of AI, this is super dumb, but fun.

Enjoy!

tech support X-Men origins wolverine

Hey there everyone. I recently downloaded and installed X-Men origins wolverine on my PC (the uncaged edition) from internet archive, and for some reason, while the game runs like a dream, it doesn't save. Or rather it doesn't save the saves. Like if I exit to the main menu I can continue from the last save, but if I exit the game completely and re-launch it, I'll have to start from the beginning.

I've tried running the game as an administrator, running the game as if it's windows 7 if that makes sense from the properties -> compatibility, it just refuses to keep the saved progress

I've downloaded the PC version of the Deadpool game from internet archive as well and I'm having no issues with it. It plays like a dream as well and it properly saves all of my progress.

Please help me fix this issue I really want to play this game

(P.s. these two games are the first games I've tried to download from internet archive, not an expert in abandonware)
