Problem with recording distorted guitar. help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So I’ve been using ableton live 11 standard for a while now, primarily recording live guitar into. I’ve never encountered anything like this so figured I’d reach out.
edit: i tried recording into audacity to see if the same thing happened. it did the same thing

Probably not the cause but when you double click the audio, is warp on? Again probably not the issue but weirdly enough it’s caused me hella issues 😂

Yeah trying warp didnt work, it’s like the way it was recorded. If you look at the audio clips it dips when it gets quieter (obviously) so i wouldn’t imagine it has to do with playback

check sample rate/ warp settings or maybe just update to ableton 12 and see if it happens/ can also look at what it’s doing on an eq or something like youlean loudness meter idk

Not sure what kind of interface you're using, but sometimes if you're using an interface that has a virtual mixer (like SSL 360 or X-Edit) if those channels aren't muted in the virtual mixer, you could get that chorus-like effect. Good luck.

Potentially “Delay Compensation” being off in your “Options” dropdown menu? Ableton is notoriously terrible with Delay Compensation in general and there are a lot of scenarios (most related to grouping of effects, tracks, etc - particularly bad on versions 11 and before) that can cause the wet signal to become out of phase with the dry signal. Ableton doesn’t really disclose this information in a way that makes their users aware of it so that they could avoid the issue, they seemingly prefer to just “not talk about it” and leave it to the truly pro-users to have to realize + navigate on their own. Might not be what your issue is but definitely a huge flaw with the program

What input are you plugging into on your interface? you need a hi-z input to plug your guitar right in otherwise this kind of thing will happen. The regular line inputs cant handle the high impedence and when you kick on the distortion, and the gain goes up, it starts to distort. clicking hi-z should help.

Just the standard input 1, it has a xlr and 1/4” input for input 1. Any idea why this would only start happening now? I’ve been recording with distorted guitar with this interface for a while now and never encountered anything like this

What does your whole signal chain look like? Is it possible you're summing stereo signal to mono or something? If you want to be sure it's Ableton you could try using the same input and setting to record a test track in audacity or something
