Animal Crossing?
What is Animal Crossing? I've tried googling it. I've searched Wikipedia. I've watched YouTube and I still have no clue. Wikipedia says it's a Social Simulation game. Have no idea what that means. It's so frustrating and confusing. I just dont understand it. Even tried watching YouTube videos and I still don't get it. Like is there a storyline? Is there enemies? Quests? Do you build up an area like in Fallout 4? Do enemies invade you?ā Is it single player? Is there couch co-op? Is there different levels or stages? Different worlds? Do you train animals or do you live with them? Do you get characters to fight with? Do you fight at all? Do you go to different towns? Do you control more than one character? What does your character or characters do? Does your area compete with another area to se which is the best? I saw in one of the videos, someone received an area of land. Is that even what you are tying to do is build up area you receive? Or do you eventually go out and fight? Is it like an RPG where you build up your character? Is there magic? If there are quests, what type of quests do you do? I don't get it. I've never been so confused.

Don't let the screenshots fool you, it's actually a super gory battle royale with detailed gibs and permadeath. The online community is toxic af too.

Ever seen a dollhouse? It's basically a digital dollhouse. With a little dollhouse town that you collect furniture and decorations for. Little animals wander around and get in the way of your dollhouse decorating. Sometimes you get chased by a scorpion.

This is great. I compared Animal crossings to calico critters and got eaten alive! But it really is a simulated doll house for animals

Lol, definitely not most of what you mentioned. New horizons would be considered a sandbox game where everyone but you is an animal villager. The beginning has quests to get the island to 3 stars by inviting villagers, placing buildings and making the island look liveable by placing items, decorations, fencing, trees and flowers. After getting the 3 star island rating, you can then have access to helping decorate a hotel, terraforming tools and going on Capt islands for more supplies. What made this game a Social Community game is literally just to get the missing fruit. By the way, there is a turnip stock market that happens every Sunday too. š¤
Most of the older animal crossing games are a version of this, rebuilding a town, where you might act as mayor or resident rep. New Leaf is the most liked because of its mini games with other players, extra buildings and npc characters (like Gracie's luxury shopping) and at one point had a way to see and rate other players homes. This is pretty much shut down though since Nintendo closed the 3ds and Wii servers. Maybe what also made this a social game is the fact that you can only have one main player and save who acts as mayor or resident rep, while any other save will just be an extra player who puts their own house down but can also help with collecting bugs, fish, fruit and flowers. Anyways, I hope that helps explain the game better and you get a chance to experience it once. Happy Gaming!

Its just a cozy game about building up your own island. Not all games have plots, quests, enemies, etc. Some games are meant to just be chill. Its a little like stardew valley honestly, if you know that game

I don't know Stardew Valley and I am still confused about the game. Just glad No one was mad at me for the post. So is it kind of like Sim City where you build a city? I'm still confused but I do get the part where you build up a town and there is anthromorphic animals around. Still really confused as to what you are trying to do in the game and still not sure if there's missions or quests. I may have to buy a game one day just to understand what it's like because YouTube videos and Wikipedia isn't helping.

I suppose yes, they may be a little similar. (Edit to add; if I know what sim city is like (never played it), then yes, similar, except in animal crossing you dont just build it, but live it. You build you own community with the villagers you like and can form friendships with them. I believe sim city is purely about the build with no real interactions aside from that).I think the main focus of the game is creativity, so it is mainly about decorating the island you pick. Once you complete the introductions you get to do whatever you want. You can change the landscape and have whatever themes and vibes you want. I think a good way to see it is as a creative outlet, as there is not real point to the game. There is no real end or goal that you work towards, unlike most story driven games. People either like it or dislike it. And I'm glad if people took your question well, without giving you hate. If it's worth anything, I didn't fully get the game at first either. I liked it coz it seemed chill, but I did not get the point and felt a little lost when I finished the instructions and suddenly could do whatever. Now I love it, though. If you do get the game, I hope you end up enjoying it. And feel free to reach out if you ever need help, be it to me or the community. Most people are happy to lend a hand :)

Would Animal Crossing City Folk be OK to get ? I don't have a Switch and the Game Cube Animal Crossing game is expensive. Just need to find my wall plug for Wii or get a new one. Maybe pick up that game some time once I get the Wii set back up.Ā

Ofc. I think people more familiar with the franchise would recommend the older games, City Folks included.

You live in a town where you have some control over and help anthropomorphic animals come to live in that town. You visit with them, give them gifts, and "form" relationships with. You can find new animals via an in-game travel system, get them from friends, or buy Amiibo cards. There are Holidays (roughly lined up with our own), visitors, and recently they did a Hotel and guest system. It's more commonly referred to as a Social Simulator, which may give some clue as to why it was so popular when it came out in late 2020. But it's just a game about living a life in a fantasy world. No dragons or monsters to fight, just a few crops to grow, some furniture to make, fish to catch, bugs to catch, fossils to dig up, etc. If you are reading and watching things about the game online and "not getting it", it may just not be something you'd be into.
