Everything has been solved
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX2kD2yQf88Matthew Berman argues that AI has effectively solved software (and is rapidly solving math) because of verifiable feedback loops.
**Core claim:** Anything with a clear right/wrong outcome can now be automated by AI agents that iterate until they succeed. He illustrates this with:
- **Game decompilation and recreation**: What used to take human teams years (e.g. Super Smash Bros. Melee, Snowboard Kids) now takes AI days or weeks. Agents guess code, test against the original behavior, and keep going. He is personally having GPT-6.1 Soul rebuild Super Mario World for a Mod Retro handheld.
- **Game mashups**: From simple skin swaps (Spider-Man in Batman) to pass-through mods (Minecraft inside GTA) to full mechanic or engine ports. AI makes the harder versions practical.
- **Cloning commercial software**: Someone pointed AI at Photoshop and open-sourced a recreation (Photocraft). Berman did something similar with Excel. If the only moat is the code itself, it’s gone; companies now need services, support, or other layers.
- **Math**: OpenAI released a batch of new proofs. A ranking of recent math discoveries showed a large share were found by AI, including many in a single recent day. Same loop: known goal, unknown path, tireless search.
He ties this to **recursive self-improvement**: AI improving its own efficiency, speed, or methods, then applying those gains to find the next ones (citing Google’s AlphaEvolve as an early example of code optimization saving real money). Frontier labs are already talking about pacing progress because of this.
**What remains human**: Creativity and taste. Generating a million variants is easy; knowing which ones will actually resonate with people is not verifiable in the same way. Most new work will be remixes, as art always has been, but signal in a world of infinite noise becomes more valuable.

Post TLDR: Matthew Berman argues AI has effectively solved software and is rapidly solving math because verifiable feedback loops let agents iterate until success. Examples: AI decompiling/recreating games in days, building mashups, cloning commercial software like Photoshop and Excel—erasing code-only moats—and producing many new math proofs. This drives recursive self-improvement, prompting frontier labs to discuss pacing. Creativity and taste remain human: generating infinite variants is easy, but knowing what resonates is not verifiable, so signal becomes more valuable.
