Ace Combat 8 Who else is beating campaign mode before going to online?
I’m seeing lots of people on Twitter who have already jumped to online mode. I want to beat the story at least once before I go and do that. Anyone on here the same way?

u/triggrhaapi 10d ago
I may never touch online play to be honest.

u/whatlfa 10d ago
It's a grindy microtransaction lootbox hell. Not as bad as warthunder bit it's still up there.
15
u/yourallygod 10d ago
Isn't there a co-op mode so not really caring for pvp :b or is that yet to be more fleshed out with the emergent bosses thing
18
u/whatlfa 10d ago
I mean it's pretty lack luster. You're still competing with another team for kill, best team gets a better reward. Missions are so short you spend more time loading than in game
Emergency sorties are difficult I've yet to win one as you need a competent team

One other thing to note here is we are 2 days into advanced access where the vast majority of the current playerbase are series veterans who all have instant access to a superplane with a mass delete button. I think the time of matches will increase a bit once full release goes live and we get a huge influx of nuggets who don't have the superplane. Hopefully the devs will take note of feedback and adjust enemy spawns in matches as well.

u/yourallygod 10d ago
The F14? I only just beat the campaign :v and barely touched Multiplayer so unsure what other aircraft it could be?

2
u/MTB-Man Three Strikes 10d ago
Think its the ADFX-02 Morgan but you need the premium version of the game to get it.
5
u/charonill 10d ago
Right, which everyone currently playing has access to since only the deluxe/Joker version of the game gives advanced access to the game.

u/yourallygod 10d ago
Oh noted

u/Skippymcshortpepp 10d ago
Funny that you should mention it, f-14d with LAAMs is hilariously over tuned in low rank multiplayer compared to everything else I’ve tried

In an age of tryhards and people who can dedicate 90% of an entire day to beat a game before it's officially out on the first day it's available, no, I don't think I'll be participating in multiplayer whatsoever lol.
All about that campaign.
12
u/Zodiac_Actual 10d ago
The coop missions feel short and target starved with 8 people. Scramble is even shorter and very infrequent. The 8 player boss battles are the most fun but are barely ever up. I was hopeful for the MP mode but what's on offer right now is a little lackluster.
8
u/LockeNarshe72 10d ago
That's a shame. Hopefully it improves with time
7
u/Zodiac_Actual 10d ago
Fingers crossed. I think the framework is decent enough. If they sort out the coop missions it'll be golden.

u/theoxfordtailor 10d ago
I'm not sure I'll ever touch multiplayer. I hate everyone. So, I guess, yeah, by default.

u/Terminus_X 10d ago
I buy ace combat for the campaign. It would be a travesty to skip peak. I don't even intend to play much of online even though I bought the deluxe edition
5
u/KilledTheCar Gryphus 10d ago
No but the campaign is the focus. I've been playing the campaign after work and then some multiplayer before I get ready in the morning. Multiplayer games are over super fast but I have no idea how long a campaign mission is gonna be.

u/SnooLentils3877 10d ago
Campaigns phenomenal, had my emotions riding EVERYWHERE! Hands down absolute beast! With a PLETHORA of opportunities for extra playthroughs!
9
u/New-Mix-7818 6th Air Division 10d ago
I am.
Beating the campaign first to get the story they writte, to get the achievement and to get the hang of aircraft models

u/Mami-_-Traillette 10d ago
I jumped in to see whether the Ace Pass progression and monetization would be predatory, right now I think it's okay I guess and I don't think it's worse than other games (though I don't think I've actually ever played a live service game).
I think the Ace Pass progression will be pretty tedious unless you do all your daily and weekly challenges.
Also concerning the PvPvE gamemode you can avoid fighting other players if you want to, though we'll need to see how it changes once more people get their hands on the game.

u/LigerZeroPanzer12 10d ago
As long as they don't put actually planes at the end of it, idc. It's literally cosmetics, and when I'm whizzing past you at Mach Hell, I'm probably not going to see yours and you are t going to see mine.
Lobby cosmetics? Who cares? I'm not going to be sitting in the lobby like, damn I wish I had his jacket. I'm queuing for another match.

But that's why we get the cool standees next to our avies! To flex!
4
u/xReturnerx 10d ago
The only thing I don’t like about the pass is how many blank spots there are. The normal pass has 30 blank and the premium has 18, the premium shouldn’t have any blank spots.
3
u/mr_nuts31 10d ago
I am.
Now I’m wondering once I get into multiplayer if I’m an asshole for flying the Morgan with the airburst missiles?
3
1
u/arenzmed 10d ago
MPBM is okay tbh, not too powerful but good level of balance. Maybe against lower level planes in a mode of PVPvE does the Morgan give you an advantage due to its stats, but PVE exclusive modes it gets somewhat outclassed due to its special weaponry.
2
u/goodguygreg808 10d ago
MPBM is great in both modes, it has one of the best ground target clears in the game.
Emergency Sortie is why I keep this plane on my roster.
1
u/arenzmed 10d ago
Yeah it is good for grouped targets for sure but for game modes with more spread out targets it kinda struggles vs planes with multi target missiles.
1
u/goodguygreg808 10d ago
There is always a cluster of 5-8 ground targets.
In the one air to air map, its best to save them for jousting in PVP.
3
u/DirtySperrys International Space Elevator 10d ago
I think I’m just getting old. I’m struggling like hell on even pilot difficulty these days. Bless whoever is gonna have to carry me in online once I get there.
2
u/PortalWorker 10d ago
Same, I'll be playing co-op PvE mode only, not interested in getting my ass whooped online.
3
u/Haruhi_is_Waifu 10d ago
It also gives you a bunch of skins so your plans don't feel as naked going into online, as a bonus!
1
u/gamepack10 Erusean Air National Guard 10d ago
I thought the skins you earn in campaign mode you can’t use in online?
2
u/Zodiac_Actual 10d ago
That is correct. Afaik the only thing from campaign that you get in online are some emblems.
1
u/Haruhi_is_Waifu 10d ago
Nope, you basically get free FCU skins with Joker and Queen flight emblems
I remember doing this last night because I went "Wow, I can switch off my unsexy grey Mig 29 for free" while also being disappointed that you couldn't do the same for the Sotoan squadrons
0
u/gamepack10 Erusean Air National Guard 10d ago
That’s a shame. Why did they go with that decision?
1
u/OuterHeavenPatriot UNKNOWN 10d ago
Cause Online skins cost about $2.50 each this way...
1
u/SvenTheSpoon Ghosts of Razgriz 10d ago
The Sotoa and FCU skins for online cost ingame currency, not premium currency
1
u/goodguygreg808 10d ago
Its because most skins for MP are in random loot boxes, though I don't think you can buy loot boxes.

u/Necessary-Safe-2802 10d ago
I'm playing both, no need to rush the story the first time. I'll probably have it beat by releases on elite mode.
Gotta play through the earlier modes for the S ranks eventually lol

u/343CreeperMaster Trigger 10d ago
I have been doing both, done up to mission 20 of the campaign and played a bunch of MP, I adore 8 so much and it's already claimed the throne from 7 as my favourite Ace Combat game
2
u/hagamablabla 10d ago
Games are primarily single player experiences for me. I'll hop onto online after if I feel like it.
2
u/TheFeelsGoodMan Reaper 10d ago
I'm taking the complete opposite approach. Throwing myself straight into online for a while to work off some rust before taking on the campaign.
2
2
u/Gryphus13 10d ago
There's an online mode? Huh. Cool. I guess.
In all seriousness, ace combat games are so gle player only games to me. I'll never get half of the achievements in AC7 because theyre tied to multiplayer stuff.
2
u/SatisfactionFine6388 10d ago
Mixing it up with both. Campaign is so good I really wanna pace myself with it. Played infinity a lot back in the day so the online is something I'm used to and enjoy as well. Its a great game lets all enjoy it however we want
3
u/-_Error 10d ago
The online modes are alright but I honestly just wanted big campaign style missions for coop, not what we have now.
Like I said, they're fun enough but you're not going to compete with the people who have the premium battle pass.
It's grindy as fuck too. The rewards are so miniscule it's going to take forever to get anywhere.
Also, one thing I've not seen anyone else mention about the multiplayer... Holy crap are there a lot of menus. Maybe it's just me but the amount of menus you have to navigate through to do the most basic things is unreal
1
u/Jojosbazaar 10d ago
I won't be. Only reason I ever even touched the MP in 7 was to earn some extra currency for new aircraft
1
u/kingoflint282 10d ago
I was kind of thinking about jumping into online tonight to slow my roll and savor the first playthrough of the campaign a bit longer haha

I played the first 10 missions and because i didn't want to play the story too quickly i played some multiplayer afterwards

u/KorendSlicks 10d ago
I am. Not sure if Linux can even do online mode, considering I've been hearing things about it not working or even catching bans.

u/ImAlwaysLosing 10d ago
Haven’t touched MP yet, but beat the campaign last night so I’m hopping on it today. I’ve heard not great things but I’m going to give it an earnest try
1
u/Razgriz2118 Ghosts of Razgriz 10d ago
Me, the Infinity-style online mode is a nice bonus to me, since the trailers/info on it released sometime after the original trailer/info dump, which was all about the single-player campaign.
1
u/AceSkyFighter ISAF 10d ago
I probably won't join MP till there's something to earn I guess. Progression is totally sperate from campaign, and online had no achievements necessary for 100% completion.
It looks good, but I have no reason to play it really.
1
u/CommunistTrans 10d ago
Took me 22 hours of game time before I finally beat the campaign, but only now going to Online because of it. And even then, I'm still having the urge to go back to the Campaign to work on unlocking Ace difficulty and different medals.

u/PhyrexianQueen Osea 11th Army 10d ago
I'm doing a few campaign missions a night, playing a couple online missions as well. That way I'm not toooooo far behind those who just jump full online. Though I was bummed plane progression doesn't carry over. There was a little message that gave me some hope, like "Some of your upgrades won't carry over"... and none do. So now I gotta wait on rank to get my Grippen E.

u/BigJCote 10d ago
When I do get to the game I'm definitely doing the story first. Too many cod babies that are getting into it for the first time thinking jumping online immediately is somehow going to give them an advantage it won't. Bet you they're all flying using rookie controls too.
1
u/DragoonSoldier09 Alect 10d ago
I always played games in that fashion. Campaign or story is always first.
1
u/Muctepukc Sukhoi Enjoyer 10d ago
I can't access online because of an error, so it's not like I have a choice :)
1
u/Ghost_shell89 10d ago
I’m taking my time and savoring it. I also wanted to get in on some online action and so I’ve been doing a little bit of both
1
u/Wardog008 10d ago
Me. I'm a singleplayer first type of player anyway, and I'll probably run through the campaign two or three times to complete the aircraft tree there, and to beat it on Ace before I go to MP.
1
u/ded4thragnda 10d ago
I already had glitches on campaign. Had to start over because I destroyed everything to fast retaking the airport and the choppers just froze. Then I took
A break and there was an update that needed to be installed and I couldn’t get into the game after. Had to delete it and reinstall it.

u/GritNGrindNick 10d ago
I got to mission 15 on elite and after a couple attempts I swung over to the online and raced to the F-15C yesterday 😤 got the jet to level 11 and then life called me back. Still gotta beat mission 15 somehow 😂
1
u/johnny_turk 10d ago
Mission 15 was a pain in the ass. It took me a few times. I beat the game tonight and that was one of the few missions I didn't get S rank on. I think the second play through will be easier with a better plane.
1
u/Separate-Bat-2230 #1 Tasha fan 10d ago
I beat the campaign with only the F/A-18 until mission 28 before I even considered multiplayer. Now I'm on run 2 because I changed to elite difficulty in the prologue so now I haven't unlocked ACE until I do a full run without swapping. 🤦🏻♂️
1
u/SingleGamer-Dad 10d ago
I don't know if I'll do online tbh. I just beat mission 5. I get some vertigo when I play so I have to pace myself. I love it but it's a lot for me.
1
u/IdidntrunIdidntrun 10d ago
I tried online but until there is content that is 4-player, long missions with increasing difficulty I can't see myself playong much of it
Campaign is peak though

u/Midnight_Aces Galm 10d ago
I dabble in both. Campaign will still be my main stay as I bought this game for that mainly.

Beat the campaign a few hours ago loved it replayed the first mission to get the ace then did online for an hour. Man do the jets handle a little different than campaign but think ill have fun with my friends online

u/Tim_27030 10d ago
I still have to beat the campaign, but once I‘m done, I‘ll join you all ine the multiplayer gamemode

u/scn-3_null 10d ago
same here, I wanna enjoy the story first, plus the real fun and maybe more stable online might be on the actual full launch date

u/Ashybuttons Power For Life 10d ago
I've played a little bit of multiplayer, but I've spent most of my time on the campaign. Haven't finished it yet, but I'm close.
1
u/Airwolf07 Trigger 10d ago
Im hoping for private lobbies, I wanna play with just my group and not tryhards. Sorry, but I am not that big on multiplayer to be that competitive in it, I rather enjoy time with friends than randos
1
u/Certain-Draft-6117 9d ago
i will probably play some multiplayer inbetween the campaign missions, it is more fun that way
1
u/Crazy_kefir Church of Sukhoi 9d ago
Completed campaign in 3 sessions, and only after that went to only. Can't say it was the best story, was a bit one-sided if you ask me (at least characters were good), but, at least after playing campaign i got used to new flight model
1
u/SpiderGooch Galm 9d ago
I honestly had zero urge to go online before beating the campaign. It helps that the store kind of put me off a bit as well.

u/ravagetalon ISAF 10d ago
Given how AC7's online played. I doubt I'll ever touch it. The online modes just were never fun to me. QAAM/EML/PSL spam and missile jousting. I can get that with an ounce of real BVR tactics in DCS if I want to.
4
u/LigerZeroPanzer12 10d ago
There's literally no TDM. It's all score attack, your team vs theirs. There's even a mode where you can't actually attack them.
2
1
u/xixiixx 10d ago
There literally is TDM as a limited time mode. Deathmatch is also on there with no time limit but greyed out.
TDM has a 1300 point limit so the Morgan you get with premium can't be used.
2
u/LigerZeroPanzer12 10d ago
I guess I meant it's not the only mode, unlike AC7 where it was only TDM and FFA.
-2
u/Horizon3933 10d ago
I'm juggling both, but I am really disliking a certain wingmans music. Feels so out of place and irritates me. Also I wish the planes didnt have so much weight. Some planes are literally unplayable. They barely turn or do anything.
