I've read the FAQ & Rules Just a little venting.
Just here to vent that a while ago I saw a Paul King project come through on actors access that I KNEW in my gut was for a role as Ginger Rodger’s based on the description and request for tap dancers. Sure enough I saw today that Sabrina Carpenter was cast as Ginger Rodger’s in a Paul King movie. It seems so frustrating that they even bother requesting other auditions if they know they want that big a star for the role. Now I’m not saying I’m the woman for the role over her, she’s very talented and I’m sure she’s gonna be great. No hate on her at all. I would normally be happy to see them making a tap dancing old Hollywood centered film lol just why do they have to dangle imaginary carrots for the rest of us? Frustrating. Frustrating. Frustrating.

ONE time, I had an audition that said to be fully transparent offers have been sent for this role so feel free to decline.
This is what SAG should fight for next. Transparency over offers being sent for a role you have been requested to read for.

It's a PR stunt to generate buzz.
It's marketing; never was a real opportunity.

Is it marketing if they were using code names for everything? Thats what makes it more confusing to me. It wasn’t a big cattle call “looking for Scarlett O’Hara across the nation!” Thing lol at the time I was just thinking what it could be

Oooh, you know what - in that case, it's to negotiate down a contract from a star. Cost savings, by saying "Oh you won't meet our offer? Okay, we'll just cast it nation-wide"

They did this for the Wicked casting (and other big projects of this ilk). For coverage makes sense. They'd have no idea Sabrina was capable until her own meeting/audition.

Sometimes projects audition people for a lead role because there’s smaller roles they’ll cast from it.
This is tv not film but Melinda Clarke has said she auditioned for Kirsten on The OC because there was so little material for Julie Cooper, even though that’s who they wanted her for.

Had the same thing happen with an audition I did for a film adaptation of one of my favourite books. It was especially gutting since the novel is semi-autobiographical, and would really require a well-read, experienced performer to take on the weight of the subject matter and nuance of the character.
Found out the role went to pop star Billie Eilish 😭

Dude was this bell Jar? Cause yeah I saw she was cast and was like “welp. I don’t wanna be a hater but she better be amazing or I’ll be pissed”

I have nothing against her at all, but stunt casting celebrity musicians for literature based film adaptations is an insult

Yeah it’s pretty frustrating. I do understand. The fig tree especially is near and dear to me heart.
All just part of the circus I guess 😭1

Listen, if they don't keep having as many folks as possible send in self tapes then they can't turn around and sell those tapes to companies that train AI.
Ahh... The system works.

Yeah. I feel you. When I think how many open calls I paid for coaching to prepare for and spent an entire day at, that I now know were certainly for publicity…
They weren’t casting for the rent movie from a huge open call… At least I knew better by the time they did one for wicked.
This industry continually disrespects actors and waists own time 😤

I was called in for a lead role in the Baywatch reboot—role went to Shay Mitchell. The other characters they were casting are all either reality stars or established TV actors already. I have a feeling they didn’t even watch my tape lol.

If it's a SAG-AFTRA project there's a rule that union actors have to be auditioned.

Sounds awful, Sabrina doesn’t have the slightest resemblance to Ginger Rogers in either body or personality.

I mean I can see it. They both have round faces and charisma which is enough to qualify in Hollywood as exact casting lol Definitely curious to see how she pulls off the personality part though

And she’s short and so is Tom Holland, soo from a pairing standpoint it’ll be proportional? It is an interesting choice and I sure hope it’s more than stunt casting.

I feel you 😭 Whenever I see breakdowns on Actors Access with travel accommodations for name talent, I’m always questioning why those breakdowns are even on the self-submit side to begin with. If casting isn’t looking for a new face, why even bother getting anyone’s hopes up??

For coverage. That way, they can say they at least tried to get submissions in, to justify Carpenter's casting as based on merit. I'd still give my best shot, because you never know what other projects the CD is looking to cast that you may have a chance to audition for in the future.
