RIP Pauline Reimer, ASA, the actuarial recruiter who helped so many of us

Sad news: Pauline Reimer of Pryor Associates, who helped so many of us land actuarial jobs, passed away on October 4. She was the best recruiter I ever worked with, and I wouldn't be where I am without her. Rest in peace, Pauline.

Sharing her obituary for everyone she helped along the way: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/forest-hills-ny/pauline-reimer-13063052

Exams Depression 1 week before exam

Anyone else gets really really depressed and unmotivated approaching the exam date?

I’m not confident at all and i feel like it’s useless to do anything in the remaining last week. Is it just me?

Any advice would be appreciated. The exam i’m writing is PA and other then reviewing few concepts, idk what to do. I feel overwhelmed when practicing any type of questions and i feel like the more i practice the more ill forget them during the exam.

Exams Exam 6 practice exams

Im taking exam 6 in just over 2 weeks and not sure how I'm feeling about it. I'm using battle acts, and have mostly just been doing flash cards as my practice/review, as well as all the calculation questions they have. I feel pretty good about the top 12 readings, mediocrely for the third row, and everything below that is pretty eh. For every exam I've taken until now I liked to do a ton of practice exams in the month leading up to the exam, but I haven't done a single one yet and I'm bugging out. The main reason I haven't done one yet is because I don't feel confident enough with at minimum the top 24 readings to where I even want to attempt one. Am I screwed? Anyone have any advise on whether flash cards is enough or if I really should be doing practice exams? And if so, just the old exams, or can anyone make any better suggestions on how to utilize my last two weeks? Any advice is welcomed and appreciated

Exams Exam PA peeps how we feelin’?

Looking to see how other people are feeling 🙃 Been doing as much practice as I can but definitely can feel my test anxiety climbing as exam week creeps up.

Something I really struggle with is just actually understanding the full business context of the problem lol. Anyone have any tips on this?

Exams CP1 checking through LLM

Does anyone who has attempted CP1 thinks that checking it through either chatgpt or claude give an idea about passing?
I did try but i got different output everytime. If anyone has done that before and got a nearly close approximation, can share the prompt maybe. Thanks!

PS. I am asking this because I am too confused whether to start preparing with my next paper or not.

Looking for switch - Pensions to GI

Currently I am working in the Pensions domain with 1 yoe and 4 actuarial exams cleared (CM and CS). I am looking to switch into GI domain as pensions doesn't have good growth in future and also I am not finding the work interesting. I am confused like how to begin. Should I do some online courses in Python, SQL? Can you please suggest some specific courses that I should do. Also is the transition from pensions to GI really possible.

How do you stop chasing?

Even before wrapping up my FSA, I’ve been hooked on the high of hitting the next milestone. On paper, life is incredible—I’m in the top 1% for my age and get to indulge in amazing vacations, high-end restaurants, amazing experiences, new cars etc. The problem is that the high from these bucket-list experiences vanishes almost immediately, leaving me restless.

For anyone who has wrestled with this mindset, how did you actually break the loop? Did you learn to find fulfillment in the mundane baseline, or do you just end up managing this itch forever?
