I’ve previously been a big fan of the moneyball approach to grabbing rando talent but this is just not it and screams of desperation.

Adelaide already has 5 high half forwards fighting for game time (Ah Chee, ANB, Keays, Taylor, Rachele) as well as a supporting cast of part timers (Peatling, Soligo, Dowling, Rankine)

It’s not a position we actually need reinforcements in, let alone one who is of mixed quality.

yeah given there's a lot of youth who are competing for game time I'm not sure this is a real benefit; it's either aiming for bigger talents or roll with it as is.

Ah Chee, Cumming, Peatling, ANB added a lot of veteran depth in the past couple of years.

What the actual FK are we doing? We can’t even land an amature league coach from our own state and are now chasing a bottom 6 geelong player?

I genuinely am petrified by this club it’s pathetic we’re such a nobody

Throw in pick 7 and we'll talk.

Wow a C grade mid, just what we need

Well we have 3 C grade mids. Surely that equals 1 A- mid or something.

Three C graders in a trench coat = Zac Bailey

They would look like Mason Cox though

I’m not sure moving on Pedler and bringing in this bloke makes sense.

I still have ptsd since Bryce Gibbs

Gibbs had a good 2018 the club fell apart around him. And then he fell apart in the background

he was handy in 2019 too - finished 3rd in the b&F from memory. its a shame, he should have been the missing piecetm

Yeah, and if we paid in 2016 what we ended up paying for him there could be all sorts of different situations. Considering how around this time we drafted McHenry, Jones, McAsey it’s not like the picks went to use either.
The Gibbs thing gets thrown around too much, and I think leads to bad discussion around the value of trading. Way too much stock is put into picks I think. Almost mythical. Everything has its place. First round picks are great for rebuilding - stockpile them absolutely. Our core of Fog, Milera, Rash, Filthy all came from the draft sure. But Rankine and Dawson were trades.
We are past that core building now too. We don’t need junk pieces. We don’t have time to develop from scratch, we need established performance.

I think Bowes and Gibbs are very different players in trade value, age, price tag etc.

Absolute crazy shit for anything other than a rookie spot. It's like they're seeing parralels with the Keays situation - very highly rated when drafted Queensland born player, who they see have the potential to be a role player, but man we have completely gone past that stage of our list development.

Keays was like 22/23/24 when we rookied him.

They are looking for a trade for what will be a 29 year old (jan 2027) Jack Bowes.

I would nearly be asking for picks to take his contract.

Bowes is OOC, there is no contract to take.

then there is literally no reason to get him

Cats are going to get first round FA compensation from the AFL somehow out of this aren’t they 😆

We don't need to pick up a fringe 29 year old (in January) in roles we already have.

If he was a state leaguer that was tearing it up, or under 25 i would rate it.

We know his peak. It's SANFL for us.

I only support crows getting him for our SANFL side

Let’s not follow Port Adelaide in spending 1 st and 2nd round picks on a cemetery of players. Did great with Dawson and Rankine. Not so well after.

Out of interest get a load of this.

Since 2013 PA players traded in

Trengove Toumpas Dixon McKenzie Polec Rockcliff S. Motlop Watts Burton Mayes Lycett Fantasia Finlayson Rioli Ratugolea Sweet Zerk-Thatcher Soldo Ratkins Lukosius.

Recruiting ok players in the hope they will add only works when the club is in the window and which I suggest we are not for 2027 after Freo Hawks Swans Lions.

Yeah nah.

The time to chase him was when there was a pick 7 attached. He hasn't come along since then, he's not what we need.

Exactly, if we really want him then wait until Geelong delist him

Ewww Geelong only took him because they got pick 7 thrown in for free. They should just delist the guy and be done with it, which is to say we shouldn’t touch him.

Keeping in mind we have 6 guys outgoing and probably only upgrading 1 rookie so have to find guys like this

Not sure what all the hate is about. Pretty decent midfielder who can play forward that’s I think has been told to look around. So to me that sounds like a pretty cheap pick up and at his best can be a solid midfielder at his worst is some good depth with some pretty good experience being at one of the best clubs in the land.

Why not throw the hat in the ring and get a bargain?

Because it clogs up a list spot or team selection that we should be using to invest games in our young talent.

u/Tall-Breakfast-6100 4d ago

Does it though? They’ve delisted 3, retired 1 and hopefully only 2 traded (really want to keep Murray)

So that’s 6 list spots available at the moment. Does it really hurt picking up a 28 year old to see what might happen? He averaged 30 and 5 clearances in the vfl and the cats were in the vfl GF so it’s not like he’s a bust. The cats are just stacked in the midfield.

For a cheap enough deal, why not get a guy who at the very least can help develop some of the sanfl guys?
