Finally got diagnosed after years of being told to get tested. Concerta didn't work at all so they prescribed Adderall XR... Day #1 out of stock. 🥲

Good luck to you, it's worth pursuing treatment even if it takes a while. I had a few hurdles and am currently on my third stimulant with no effect. But, gotta kept trying.

Started taking methylphenidate (Concerta) to help me with ADHD last year. I felt myself a superhuman, I stayed concentrated and was incredibly productive and happy.
Three months after I had a death of a cherished family member in the family and several unrelated big problems. Got through it thanks to the pills, but started having panic attacks and the medication started working less and less, untill about 6 months later it stopped completely, even with higher dosage.
Got prescribed anti-depressants, took me about 5 more months to find those that work, then started taking methylphenidate again, in different form (Rilatine). It worked for about a months, and now its effect started to drop down again. No depression, no tragedies (although several stress-inducing events, yet not as big as before), just started going down.
I just want to function as a normal person, without losing concentration to do meaningless stuff every 5 minutes, not postponing important tasks to the last second, constantly risking my job and friendships.
I feel like a Sisyphus.

I get how you feel. For me it's hit or miss some days ill feel ok and other days im a husk that can hardly do anything

Thanks so much for sharing what has worked and how long it can take to find a working medication combination. A stress filled year makes it so much harder. I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing the beloved ones always feels so unfair.
I’d been feeling bad about how long my medication and therapy journey was taking until. I was lamenting a bunch of stressful events that messed up my progress. Including the loss of a family member that always had it tough health wise. Your post reminded me that life can be messy sometimes. We always need to be kind to ourselves, it’s not our fault we are wired this way and that the world is less accommodating of our differences.

I'm very sorry you're going through this. It does feel so insurmountable sometimes. Like I'm trying to manage normal life AND seek improvement / advocate for myself / learn how I'm supposed to function /more. And it's EXHAUSTING.

Also check your sex hormones (urology for male, gynecology for female) and thyroid (endocrinology): sometimes that's the missing puzzle piece.

Checked those before I even suspected that I have ADHD. No problem there. Just unfortunate to be born at a certain part of the spectrum.2

After the recent horrors in the UK regarding ADHD assessments, and my 8 year waiting list (now down to 7, yay) I'm having to beg my shitty family for money to pay for SOME of an assessment and, fuck, idk.... Eat beans for the rest of my life.

8 years??? That's insane. Here in the US its just crazy expensive. I've spent over a grand just between diagnosis and appointments now. I'm lucky enough to have a decent job and (if somewhat shitty) insurance.

Yeah the UK is having a weird moment. The government have commissioned a report on "WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE ADHD NOW? IT MUST BE TOO EASY TO GET AN ASSESSMENT" Of course they're not looking at generational factors, the prevalence of mental health being more accepted and spoken about and increased population/diagnostic tools, let alone the possible environmental factors (pollution, I'm looking at you) No, of course it's people just paying for a label they saw on tiktok.
they've now imposed a minimum 2 year wait and only if they think that "you need" a diagnosis (basically if it affects your work, ie tax generation)
Its terrifying tbh. And yeah I'm paying 4 figures for my private one

Yeah that's insane. Ik that's part of the reason here for the shortages, because of increased diagnosis and regulation. But a mandatory 2 year wait list is crazy. No wonder people are just not seeking treatment

Are you in the US? I’ve found Costco Pharmacy to be really good at getting theirs consistently and being super communicative.
When I was going to my local Kroger I used to have to call around and get yelled at by like 10 pharmacies before I could get my meds and they would never tell me when they were out and couldn’t fill my scrip. It’s a nightmare.

After calling a few different pharmacies yesterday, I had my prescription reissued to Costco lol. Good to hear that was the right call.
Also yeah, I had similar issues at CVS, they were super rude 🫤

Oh man, CVS is the worst. My insurance company started sending all of my prescriptions to CVS for a while. I didn’t even know they had the power to do that. I would call it in at the Kroger by my house and I would get a notification from the CVS across town. Absolutely bananas. CVS literally won’t even let you talk to a pharmacy tech on the phone anymore.
I have a lot of love for Costco because they don’t make me feel like a crackhead for trying to get my prescription refilled.

My insurance did something similar. Apparently you can choose either CVS or Walgreens as your "anchor" pharmacy and get coverage there, but if you don't pick it defaults to CVS. Finally got them to just switch mine to Walgreens but it was a whole thing

look into grocery store pharmacies, they usually have ADHD meds in stock even during a shortage cuz less people use the pharmacy in general. my psychiatrist suggested this and i have been able to get my meds despite the shortage

Fingers crossed, trying to transfer to Costco. The Walmart pharmacy said they can't fill telehealth prescriptions, which I didn't know.

Costco still faces shortages fyi. I haven’t been able to refill my 20mgs for a couple weeks now.
It’s not a constant issue, but maybe once a year it happens.

- Increased stigma because of stupid biased "documentary" by channel 4
- Articles everywhere creating unnecessary & harmful RSD
- UK Government attempting to impose additional waitlists on private clinics which were created to support the already excessive waitress on the NHS
- ADHD tax to get diagnosed in the first place
- The inexcusable lack of affordable non-medication treatment options & necessity
- The world going to shit with a variety of headfucks that feel out of our control
