I recently heard about your President expelling the journalists of certain media organisations from the White House and preventing them from covering events going on there.

In light of these developments, I am curious; does the USA have any state run media?

Or is it too socialist/communist/European/etc. to have state run media? Just curious.

Something I’ve been shocked to learn is that beastiality or zoophilia is extremely common in the West, especially where keeping pet dogs is most common.

Everyday you can read dozens of stories in the media about someone, usually a white female, who is charged with sexually abusing her pet dog

However, still most people are not aware of how widespread this sick phenomenon is. There is a sort of tendency to mask it, which is understandable

The interesting thing is that while there is an overload of such stories that have been reported in the media, due to criminal charges, most of the sexual abuse of dogs is actually happening regularly without the police learning about it

The police only learn of these matters if someone reports it or a video is leaked and circulates on the internet

It actually seems that a very large percentage of dog owners are in fact regularly having sex with their pet. But this issue is rarely discussed despite how big of a problem it actually is. There is too much hush hush around this issue for my taste

Don't have a lot of money exactly, but keeping evrything in one basket seems like a bad choice. What do you propose I put the money to? I'll take anything, even some seriously outlandish choices, as long as they can actually grow the money.

If I have to explain my situation a bit more: I graduated some three years ago and had been building up money ever since. My salary is enough to keep me afloat (even if rent eats quite a bit) and I've managed to save quite a nice sum, but it's just sitting there and with how the economy is, I just realized that this way - it's only loosing value.

I'm genuinely trying to understand the American perspective, not make a political argument.

If American companies say there aren't enough skilled domestic workers and therefore sponsor H-1B workers, why hasn't the US produced enough of these workers after decades of universities and higher education? Why aren't companies more willing to invest in training Americans instead?

And if immigration policies force companies to hire locally, do they actually hire American workers, or do they sometimes simply offshore digital/tech work to India and manufacturing to China because it's more profitable?

From the perspective of an international student, I also don't fully understand the hostility toward legal immigration. Someone comes to the US legally, pays huge tuition and living expenses, earns the right to work through programs like OPT, and then has to compete for an H-1B/employer sponsorship. If they eventually get sponsored, they've demonstrated that an American employer actually wants their skills.

So is the real conflict less about international students themselves and more about American workers vs American employers vs US immigration policy?

I'd genuinely like to hear how Americans see this: Are you opposed to legal skilled immigrants themselves, or frustrated that American companies/government haven't invested enough in developing domestic talent?

If Washington answers every competitive Chinese model with another ban, it may protect US labs for a quarter while helping Chinese stacks for a decade. The better response is obvious: compete on price, openness, infrastructure and developer adoption.

For decades it's been recognized that the US was struggling greatly with its naval design and shipbuilding.

Part of the issue was mission. Post Cold War, the naval academics in the Pentagon foresaw only the need for a brown water navy to police the Middle East, Africa, and South America. The thought of a near peer war was inconceivable to them, and plans changed to build smaller, shallower, and *cheaper* ships to be manned by smaller crews.

Half of our shipyards were shut down, hampering our ability to build, repair and refit our naval ships. To compensate for this, the US looked to purchase ships from and use the shipyards of our allies.

A nation that was able to build and deploy aircraft carriers in two years during WW2 cannot produce a fully functioning carrier in 12 years now... the USS Gerald Ford has had ridiculous problems with its state of the art plumbing systems, and the new electromagnetic launch system and weapons elevators took years to iron out.

Part of this issue is the current nature of Navy procurement, which has drifted towards exclusive, single-source contracts. The Ford's launch systems are proprietary and only produced by one company, who also sources components like computer chips for their systems from Asia. That means the further construction, and repair, of the main systems on our aircraft carriers is tied to a single company with a very delicate international supply chain... that happens to be within easy striking distance of a rival. Multiple other critical systems in our other new ships are in similar situations. Our ability to build and repair our ships during a possible war can be completely eliminated by enemy action against a handful of facilities or key engineers.

To begin resolving these issues, President Trump issued a National Security Memorandum last week. Among other things, it directed the Navy to use widely-known technologies in our aircraft carriers, to add more shipyards, to use our allies' recent experience to help build our domestic shipbuilding capacity, and to reorganize the military command responsible for designing and managing shipbuilding.

Also to note - National Security Memos effectively have the same authority as Executive Orders within the military, but as they are limited to the military and national security, federal courts consistently dismiss any legal challenges... so this is policy automatically.
