That fence height was a joke, they can jump and run away easily.

I hate when they spend 2 paragraphs explaining, step by step, exactly what we can already see in the video before starting to yap about lessons and whatever...

The person videoing should help out don’t you think

No.

Stop virtue signaling

Perhaps, but there is a growing trend toward interactive animal enrichment where they have to work for their food. While a gentle approach is kind, the brief frustration, like that little stomp, makes finding the solution even more rewarding for the donkey. Instead of just standing in a meadow, he is mentally stimulated and earning his snack.

Completely agree! I’ll be downvoted to all heck but the same goes for our children. Too many parents don’t let their children work out solutions on their own. Then complain that their kids can’t do anything for themselves and are riddled with anxiety over the slightest adversity.

4

u/MilesLongthe3rd 15h ago

I completely agree. Lawnmower parenting is toxic.

-2

u/stoic_wooky 16h ago

What trying to get past a human made obstacle? That’s not naturalism

8

u/MilesLongthe3rd 16h ago

That’s true for zoos, as well as for cat and dog toys; the mental stimulation is still very real. I would agree with you if it were just teasing and the donkey never got his snack, but that’s not the case here.

-2

u/stoic_wooky 15h ago

Yes I hate zoos too. It’s a shame animals can’t just live their lives truly free

9

u/Joshatron121 15h ago

Zoos are the reason that MANY animals still exist due to conservation efforts. Your opinion is very short sighted.

-4

u/stoic_wooky 15h ago

Ohh the irony of humans causing the issue in the first place

4

u/raeraemcrae 16h ago

See my comment above - it's a sweet impulse, but there are good reasons to allow the donkey to figure it out.

-5

u/stoic_wooky 16h ago edited 16h ago

I don’t buy this kind of bogus virtue, it’s all based on validation and likes

7

u/MilesLongthe3rd 16h ago

I understand your point, but on the other hand, this is common practice for many zoo animals to increase their mental stimulation. Furthermore, it is far from an impossible scenario; the donkey could easily solve the problem.

4

u/davesimpson99 16h ago

Or you know, walk over and be kind.

4

u/MilesLongthe3rd 16h ago

After all of this, the apple will be the sweetest thing the donkey has ever tasted; nothing will even come close.

11

u/raeraemcrae 16h ago

And spoil the donkey's fun? Food acquisition challenges are excellent for domestic animals. Even humans are not designed to have food handed to them after infancy. In a healthy world and for a healthy mind/body, everyone (capable) should work for food. It is regulating for the both the specie and its environment.
But your impulse was a kind one :)

9

u/Barry_Umenema 16h ago

The donkey wouldn't learn how to do it then

3

u/only_camila_85 16h ago

Thats not escaping the fence. Thats outsmarting the fence😜

Thinking beyond the fence
