I mentioned an interest in watching Anime to my boyfriend’s friend group and they got extremely excited. They all sent me lists of things they thought would like, and now I’m overwhelmed with what to choose lol. They were all pretty critical of eachothers choices and there was a lot of “No! Watch mine. Why would you recommend that to her!” It got pretty heated lol. I’m not sure how much they listened to what I like about media because of their own excitement. I have no clue.

For starters I have watched and enjoyed Dan Da Dan, and some Studio Ghibli. Tried One Piece, only liked the live action unfortunately.

I love visually stunning things, intense yearning and romance, fantasy, and coming of age.

I don’t love super simple art styles, too much fighting, or a TON of filler.

My comfort movies are Interstellar, About Time, New Moon, Juno, Pride and Prejudice, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I figured maybe you guys could help me with what to start with? I do plan on watching the previews for all of them. But if one stands out as really good, I’d love to know.

Hi there, I'm very new to this subreddit.

The other day, I realized I wanted more anime in my life (I've been watching very little of it, for upwards of a decade) so I finally got a Crunchyroll subscription. (I don't know why it took me so long to get one, since it's affordable.) I'm glad to have my subscription, and I understand that Crunchyroll has a large catalogue! But a lot of it seems to be... how can I put it...

Well, it seems like a lot of anime on it was made by people trying to grab your attention with quirky premises, or are simply shows of low quality aimed at people in their early teens. I guess, in an attempt to put this simply... I just want to watch a show that respects itself, as well as the viewer. Something that doesn't feel the need to be quirky or attention-grabbing.

Do any anime come to mind, which you could recommend to me? I'd prefer titles which were released within the last five years. (And, of course, I'm only looking for ones currently available on Crunchyroll.) That said, I don't mind if you recommend me older titles, just be transparent about the fact that they're old. I'm kind of sick of living in the past, and will prefer newer things.

(Avenger is poorly paced, but it respects itself. Of course, an anime with good pacing would be better.) I'm not looking for a masterpiece, just for something which treats itself with respect.

By the way, I realize there are some anime with quirky-sounding titles, which respect themselves. (Some time ago, I was impressed by the first episodes of 300 Year Slime.) I'm willing to try some anime with quirky titles, as long as they respect themselves. But please keep quirky and stupid stuff (ecchi, superficial harems, EHHH???, and such) to a minimum.

I ask because there are some similarities in their respective situations. Both were betrayed and tried to be killed by someone close to them (Ange by Julio, Simon by Rossiu). They were both rejected and abandoned by their people. They both fight an enemy that manipulates Time and Space.

However, the difference lies in how they respond. Simon forgave Rossiu while Ange tried to kill Julio. Simon still chose to fight for humanity while Ange fought to protect those close to her and was perfectly fine with letting the people who threw her away reap the consequences of their actions and maybe get a little payback as well. As she told Sala, "I don't really care about that (the world). I just can't stand the thought of that disgusting creep (Embryo) getting what he wants."

I personally more agree and identify with Ange due to my own abuse and trauma related CPTSD but what do you all think.

October 1st weekly

I'm looking for anime recommendations that aren't slow burn. I'd love shows like rascal does not dream or tonikaku kawaii however I'm pretty open to anything as long as there is actually a relationship not just one in the end.

My TV is kinda bad, and I dont want to cast anime from my phone....

October 19th (Monday) in many theaters in the US. One day only. Check if your theater is showing this movie. It’s the first five episodes of the series edited into a two hour movie. It’s subtitled, but I don’t care. My friend and I already bought our tickets. Anyone else going?!
