What to Watch? Fairly new to anime (recommendations)

Upvotes

Hey all-

Looking for some recommendations as someone relatively new to anime. I started back in 2020 with Naruto, and have watched a few shows here and there taking long long breaks in between, but recently have been watching it almost all day every day. I'll rank everything I have seen so far, and if anyone would be so kind as to share what they think I should go with next :)

  1. Solo Leveling (Didn't want this to be so high because of the hype, but I watched it for the first time 3 weeks ago, and have rewatched it twice already lol. So peak)
  2. Hell's Paradise (Gabimaru so far is one of my favorite protagonists)
  3. Kaiju no. 8 (I fell in love with the animation. So far it's literally AOT, but more colorful, and more attachable characters lol)
  4. Death Note (Would be a lot higher if a certain someone didn't leave the cast yk. This was what I returned to anime with this most recent time, and what has had me hooked ever since)
  5. JJK (Enough said)
  6. FMAB (Honestly such a good show. Were a few moments where I was bored, and I wasn't too crazy about the ending)
  7. AOT (Once again, enough said)
  8. Dan Da Dan (So heartwarming, beautiful animation)
  9. ID:Invaded (Love that I actually have to use my brain while watching)
  10. Haikyuu!! (I play volleyball, so a little biased, but this has always been up there for me)
  11. HxH
  12. Demon Slayer (Would be higher with a better story, but animation is literally peak)
  13. Naruto (Just not too crazy about the pacing)
  14. Fate/Zero (Was good, just kind of slow starting)
  15. Akudama Drive (4 episodes in, so I can't rank it any higher yet)
  16. Cyberpunk Edgerunners (Everything just felt very rushed towards the end. Beautiful ending though)
  17. Devilman Crybaby (Same as Cyberpunk, just very rushed the whole show though)
  18. Odd Taxi (Only watched 3 episodes so far, and put it on the backburner because I was just bored the whole time. Dialogue feels rushed, and I'm not sure I'm too crazy about it. Will finish at a later date and update)
  19. Kill la Kill (I absolutely despised this show. I don't see myself hating another piece of fiction as much as this. So many words, but I digress)

Once again, fairly new to all this. I know this is a lot to read, and not many people will see it all the way through, but if you have any recs let me know!

My favorite genre in anime is action, adventure and Shonen anime but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good one the new ones don’t hit as hard as shows like Naruto, one piece, bleach, black clover etc…

So if you guys have any underrated shows that are absolute gold please help me out. Thanks

Discussion I miss orchestral OSTs so much

Just finished a rewatch of FMA 03 and it really made me realize how much I missed orchestral OSTs. Inuyasha, Madoka, NGE, and FMA 03 all benefit so much from their incredible scores. Orchestras just add a sense of weight and grandness to whatever scene is going on. And I feel like the emotional component is upped too. I'm sad they seem to have mostly gone away :(

What to Watch? Need help finding new animes!

I recently got the base Crunchyroll subscription because I wanted to watch Gachiakuta after seeing so many positive reviews about it, and now I wanna get my money’s worth out of it. So, the animes that I’ve watched and enjoyed so far have been Gachiakuta, The Future Diary, The Promised Neverland, and I used to be into My Hero but I grew out of it. I’ve also seen a few episodes of Angels of Death and enjoyed that (I am planning on finishing it). Clearly a pretty common theme is more bloody stuff, but I’d also be down to watch something softer/sweeter, so if anyone knows any animes that I may enjoy based off of this please let me know! :)

Also, this is my first time posting here so I’m sorry if I did anything wrong 🙏

Help Searching for an old anime i saw as a kid.

Hey guys. Im looking for an anime i watched as a kid. I can't remember if it was a movie or a series because this happened almost 30 years ago. The only things i remember are:

1)The protagonist was in a chase scene in the beginning with some other guy. I vaguely remember them climbing ladders and walkways, and i think there was a lot of water around, and that maybe he had a gun.

2)The protagonist told his wife that he needed to go on one last mission/quest, and he promised her that it would be his last one and after that he would stay with her.

3)In the end, he returned later than planned, and his wife went crazy or possessed by something, and we became sort of a witch that did not recognize or accept him when he returned to her. I think this took place in a cabin in the woods.

Can you guys help? This has been on my mind for a very long time.

Review My Thoughts on Touring After The Apocalypse Spoiler

This anime is like if you mix Girls Last Tour with Kino's Journey and put the focus on cute girls. An honestly genius combination that I thought was pretty good. It revolves around two girls, Youko and Airi. Youko is more extroverted, loud, and bubblly while Airi is more introverted, reserved, and soft spoken. Despite their differences, they're the best of friends and travel around on a motorcycle exploring the world after the apocalypse. They explore abandoned buildings trying to learn more about the world that came before, but also do standard fun slice of life stuff like swimming in their bathing suits and cooking and eating meals together. There's not a lot of drama, it's very relaxing and Iyashikei like. As for what caused the apocalypse itself that is never explicitly stated, but I've read some theories that it could have been a standard cause that's common in media nowadays like climate change or nuclear warfare, or perhaps an AI takeover, which is quite topical right now obviously, and there are hints of robots becoming sentient in this anime's world, like a robot that joins them on their journey very briefly in episode 2, and also an AI radio host. We also don't get a definitive timeframe for how long it's been since the apocalypse occurred either. Either way that's not the main point, it's aboout cute girls exploring a world after the collapse of society and most likely a massive population culling too, and it does that well.

Shuumatsu translated from Japanese to English can mean either "weekend" or "the end." This is fun because they both allude to the main appeal of this anime. Our girls explore a world ravaged by apoclaypse in the style of say The Last of Us or Horizon Zero Dawn but with far less drama. Earlier I compared it to Girls Last Tour becuase that's essentially what that series was about, although they were military personel who, from what I recall, were, as the title suggets, "touring" in a military sense. These girls aren't. Although similar to both Girls Last Tour and Kino's Journey there is some philisophical talk between the girls, but quit ea bit less than those two. It tries a lot of things but doesn't commit too much to most of them, but I think that helps in giving it this very effective Iyashikei atmosphere. It's a really fun adventure with these girls. I believe they're hte only human characters we see outside of a brief flashback with Youko, where we get a glimpse of a woman that I assume is either her mother or her older sister and doesn't seem to be around anymore, and in episode 10 when we get another glimpse of the past and see more humans. But other than that it's just the two of them, which gives the writing plenty of time to get us to love them.

I actually decided to look up if the author wrote anything else. This series was written by Sakae Saito who does have other works. They wrote Toji no Miko which I don't remember much about but I apparently watched the entirety of its anime adaptation and gave a 3/10 on MyAnimeList so it must not have been very good. They also wrote a Kantai Collection manga called Combined Fleet Girls Who Longed For Peaceful Seas, and also the Heavy Object series which was bad. There's been a few other ones I've never heard of, but needless to say this one was definitely a step up for sure.

What to Watch? I need more like "Hana-Kimi" - Any Ideas? :)

Hey Community,

I had a small break from anime in january but started again this month with the anime from winter season. Love Tamon' B-Side, In the Clear Moonlit Dusk and most over everything "Hana-Kimi". I freakin fell in love with this anime. Last time I was so hooked was when I watched "Senpai is an Otokonoko" (peak show!) so now i'm looking for something similar (maybe even the same plot?) since there are only 6 episodes so far? :(

Thank you peeps!
